Honestly, i don't think this warrants "dirty" business. Sure, it seems like EG "stole" Puma, but that's according to the TSL coach who just lost a quality players. Of course he's going to be bitter. But this is a professional industry and these trades and signings will happen. If Puma wanted to go to EG, then why not? I mean, he should be able to choose where he wants to play. I just hope foreign tournaments reimburse or cover part of the travel and accomodation fees.

Doesn't matter if this was legal or not, it was a dick move. Not only because EG tried to poach players from another team but because the team happened to be TSL which JUST lost Fruitdealer and Trickster. Way to kick em while they're down.

It is certainly not this way in the west...
Of course if Puma is violating some contract then there's a legal issue, but nobody seems to be accusing anybody of breach of contract. Why all the rage? It is that way in the West. Seriously wtf jobs do you work? It is not that way in the west.. AT ALL. Everyone who thinks it is must seriously be 14 and jobless or... I honestly don't know. In Western sports if you want to sign a player you approach the team first. What sport is this true in? The cavaliers were not approached by all the teams that wanted Lebron, football teams arent approached by all teams that want the free agents, the players are the ones approached. The only time that the team is approached is when you dont wanna the player away but you wanna sign him to work for your team in addition to his current one (happens occationally in MLS (Major League Soccer)). Free agents, that's the key phrase. PuMa was not a free agent afaik (otherwise he would've have to be "released").
If he was not contracted to the team, he's a free agent. That's the very definition of being a free agent.

I cant believe all the ppl saying shit about EG doing this and that...if I was Scoots and had the money I'd buy even more Koreans from various teams(I'd like to buy DRG, Sage and Puzzle please) and get sAviOr! This shit is a business and players change teams.

If your move make half of the people hate ur brand image, that's not a good move, that's a retarded move. Can't control peoples opinions. EG did the best for EG. Puma did the best for Puma. If TSL did the best for TSL, this thread never exists. I don't think you understand the purpose of marketing.... Actually, I think you don't. EG just picked up a very successful, amazing player to join their core. You know who leagues market? THE GOD DAMN WINNERS People watching events live? They remember the winners.People who go to MLG for their FPS games? They glance over at SC2 and see Puma of EG won. Look at history. Muhammad Ali, Mike Tyson, Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, Magic Johnson, Joe Montana, Jerry Rice. Just to name a few WINNERS who people identify. You don't think having a winning player on a team is good marketting and strategy? You're lost. The TL and Korea community is important, but not the end all be all. Wrap your head around more than the basic principles, and maybe there can be a discussion between us. Yes, clearly those people who glance over the screen and sees puma in MLG will decide to pick up a steeleseries product because they love winners. No, you don't understand wha is marketing because u can't seem to differentiate core customers, which are they ones who will respond to you message, and non-core customers, who don't give a fuck. Sure, the fpsers are going to see it when puma wins some games, they won't know about the back story, what they also won't know is.....well, anything else, wether steeleseries or ironmatches are supporting the team is no different because they won't buy that shit anyways. TL and Korea are exactly the people they should care the most, because these are their ideal customers, no one else would buy their shit because they support a sc2 player who they saw playing once and can't remember the name of.
I just wanted to point I will almost certainly be buying a Steelseries Xia almost exclusively because of their sponsorship of EG and I am strongly considering buying a Das Keyboard Ultimate over the other keyboards I was looking at because I know Destiny uses a Das Keyboard. Honestly that is what the companies what they want players who win because then people will look into the teams and maybe notice their sponsors and look into them.

In regards to "how it works in sports":
All depends on the contract that is in place. The contract will usually say you can and / or can't talk to others. These sorts of agreements are usually hammered out between a players union and the governing league and the team owners.
If the money keeps going up you're gonna see player unions soon.

They are losing players for whatever reason. Management isn't doing something right to lose 4 players in a short span of time or possibly shouldn't even of signed them if they weren't going to get along.
They do seem to be losing players frequently. Other players that have left, such as Fruitdealer & Trickster, have indicated that part of their reasons for leaving related to their desire to have a stronger foreign presence -> presumably to participate more in NA/EU events other than GSL/GSTL.
Puma appears to have decided that EG will allow him to be more active in lucrative NA/EU events while TSL is not spending money on sending players overseas. This really suggests that TSL is falling apart because they have not made enough partnerships with foreign organizations and have indicated to their players that they will focus on GSL/GSTL exclusively while many of their top players disagree with this focus.
This really underlines the foresight of Korean teams that are active in foreign events such as PRIME, ex-fOu, & OGS.

Holy shit arguably the best player in the world on a foreign team O_O
|
Wow, this is something I never would've expected this from EG and I personally am very disappointed by how they went about doing it. I'm sure they knew they wouldn't get him if they went to the team and instead went to Puma himself. Hopefully this doesn't scare other korean teams from sending players over to any foreign tournaments in the future.

All I can really say is that I just feel bad about TSL and the Korean scene in general. I wish they could get more money from big corporations like BW teams.
Personally I think Gom needs to give up their exclusivity on broadcasting and allow organizations like Kespa to step in. Kespa would never let something like this happen.
On the one hand I am happy to see more PuMa in international events, but I just feel so bad about the Korean scene right now

I wonder how Puma will do with the language barrier. I assume he will adapt to English eventually, maybe he is making an effort to learn it? If so, the immersion will definitely help him.

Yes, EG probably should have consulted the managers, so they could work out EG's offer. Ultimately it's Puma's decision to make, but by the time TSL was involved, he had pretty much commited to EG's offer.
"Foul" play by EG I suppose, but TSL didn't exactly do the best job as managers. I'm just happy to see him go to my favorite progaming team

Ehh... I don't think that is fair at all. When EG is saying "Hey let's find some good players who aren't under contract" (if that is the case, I am not sure) they won't also say "and let's make sure that team hasn't lost players recently, otherwise we will feel bad and not want to take more of their players." It's a business... and while the way they went about this didn't seem the best, I really don't think it is as bad as some people say. But once again, TSL losing players previously is not a reason to avoid trying to recruit their players.

I hope EG releases their statement soon so a lot of this hate can be put to rest..

Let's not go into Kespa and their huge history in BW. Honestly, if a team is managed well with great coaching, there's a sense of loyalty and belonging in a player. That sort of feeling can't be bought.

I see Puma getting a lot worse very soon. EG doesn't have very many good practice partners, and especially not in Korea. When Idra was there he said in a lot of interviews that the only person willing to practice with him was Ret and sometimes other forigners that were there. Puma now doesn't have a team house and will only get practice games with personal friends at those friends lesuire. And even then those friends won't be helping him develop or refine builds since that knowledge is a trade secret of that friends' team.

Why would we want Kespa anywhere near SC2? The players are already pretty overworked and underpaided, do we really need to further exploit them by bringing in Kespa?
If you have a good player you need to sign them or yes other teams will court them.
EG offered a free agent a contract. The free agent decided to accept it. The team that didn't want to contract player is upset they didn't - FXOSeth
How exactly else would you have liked this to happen? Should Puma not be allowed to accept better deals? Do you think the team owns him or something?
