It is easy for DJwheat to say just wait and see what happens when the success of wcs does not affect him to much. But the way this works can have a huge effect on the lives of many progamers in all regions and thus it is very important to them that they get it right. The post by catz with the quote from clg saying they are cancelling their investment in sc2 NA because of the invite list is proof of how important the planning of this with teams was and how it can help or hurt sc2 esports if it goes right or wrong. Totalbiscuit obviously isn't happy based on his 20 minute audio rant he posted maybe DJwheat should go yell at him that this is automatically good because it is more money (except for Korea they get less) for players to win just wait and see what happens and laugh at them if they fail. Also is this what the "DreamHack, Electronic Sports League and Major League Gaming Partner to Unify and Elevate eSports Globally" thing announced in November was about or were they planning something else that blizzard cancelled last minute? I think Mr. Bitter on Sotg said someone wasn't happy that they were not supposed to announce that so early (blizzard?) If they were talking about wcs plans they had plenty of time to ask teams what they think would be good.

Just because slasher wants blizzard and the leagues to talk to some of the teams does not mean you can strawman him by saying you need to talk to all of the teams and players and get all of their approval and that's impossible therefore blizzard is correct to talk about this with nobody and plan this in a rush. No matter if they started planning 10 days ago or months ago some (does not mean all) teams should have been involved at the start of this discussion. If they were talking about wcs plans they had plenty of time to ask teams what they think would be good. If you really think Blizzard should speak to every team and player before making major decisions like this, then I don't know what to tell you. Let's just say for example Blizzard decided to talk to just Liquid and ROOT, you'll get two different opinions and suggestions than you would if they consulted with EG and Western Wolves. There are situations in eSports where decisions have to be made. YES THEY ARE GOING TO SUCK for some people, but you cannot make everyone happy and create a perfect utopia of tournament no matter what you do. What I'm more upset with Blizzard about, is how fast this has moved, and how little information has come out as a result of the speed. I think that's a much bigger issue than whether or not Blizzard consulted with every player or team out there. How can you say the success of WCS does not effect me too much? What kind of a statement is that? Because I'm not a player? Since all 3 of my jobs rely on the success of eSports, I'd say it's the exact opposite. I'd love for you to tell me, and the rest of the SC2 world, what option they have aside from "sitting back and waiting". Did CatZ post prompt blizzard to change anything? Did TB's rant cause Blizzard to rethink their plans? So far, no. So please, enlighten us, and tell us what we can do aside from sit back and wait. I'm doing my part by making sure that at least 4 to 5 people from NA (actually NA residents) get paid entry fee to the qualifiers. So you tell me what else I can do aside from that. People need to keep in mind, this is going to be a particularly sensitive subject for players and team owners (especially those from NA). But I'm not sure that anyone knows what in the hell the solution to the problem is. The way I see it is people can either chin up and take it, or stop playing. Brutal options yes, but what else is Blizzard giving?

I agree and I am glad that people are holding Blizzard to task on the way they are handling the opening of WCS. Blizzard is doing a great thing for everyone in the scene, but the complete lack of communication or control of information has tainted the whole process. It is so clear that many of the players made decisions(like Demuslim) without full information and have been impacted because of it. Everyone in the industry knows that WSC is not going to make everyone happy and some people are going to get screwed. But people want to know how screwed they are and then make decisions based on that, rather than guessing and finding out they were wrong later. Blizzard dropped the ball and should have had this information in hand on April 4th when they announced. This process has been a major under taking for Blizzard and unlike Riot, Blizzard has to deal with one of the largest broadcasters in Korea. I cannot be 100% sure, after +3 years of following the scene, I bet the Korean teams and broadcasters are pushing for rules that benefit their players/region. Its not an excuse in any way, but we need to consider that other parties outside of Blizzard may be pushing for last minute changes and holding up the process. I also think the teams need to work on getting a point of contact with Blizzard to express their concerns to. Then after they establish that, the teams need to get a handle of their players and what they are putting out to the public. The amount of whining on twitter from things like entry fees to information that people already knew was amazing. I understand that there is reason to complain this time, but EG members do not need to whine about entry fees or argue with their own teammates on the subject publicly.(search twitter if you care) It looks unprofessional and stupid for the most well funded team in NA to be arguing over $20. That was just one of the many things I saw on twitter are best left to email or private chat. Blizzard messed up badly, but the entire community added to the freak out by making it an all day thing. Total Biscuit had the best response which all teams should adopt in the future. Short, sweet, to the point and its over. Alex Garfield, Catz and Naz Gul should have just issued their own statements for their teams and left it at that. Rather than their player each freaking out on twitter in their own way. As a community member, I am tired of the negativity. Blizzard screwed up badly, but the teams and other groups need to make efforts to keep the community positive, while voicing their complains in a professional manner.
