Always from PlayXP
Seems like the responses aren't as numerous as MLG Columbus
Day 1
"Why are there so many games?"
"Is MC the only Korean?"
"There's MC, Bomber, Moon, and July"
"Go MC, Bomber, Moon, and July! Since there are 4 players seems like a Korean winning the tournament will be easier"
"Looking forward to this"
"Seems like Bomber will win it all"
"Go Moon! Please win!"
"Who dares to beat MC? En Taro MC~ Win it all~"
"MC vs Sen is a stomp. Winning too easily~"
"MC is a monster"
"July vs Thorzain. MUST WATCH!"
"Damn.. lag.."
"MC 2:1 Win!"
"MC wins 2:0 vs Cloud... Good job now go to sleep!"
"Koreans are winning all the games so far!"
"The stream quality is great... The best one. Also July just rolled over Thorzain"
"July wins!"
"Moon seems like he was a little arrogant. His mutalisk micro.."
"Seems like you're opening a replay and watching it"
"Koreans + Huk Won all of em! Fighting!"
"Wow Moon won all his day 1 games. Great work! Keep at it!"
"Wow seems like the Korean Flag means automatic win"
Day 2 Will be posted tonight like always

I'm really hoping for a "foreigner" win this time but MC, July and Bomber are players that can win any tournament right now.. Glad to see them give credit and cheers for Huk!

I always get a kick out of reading these.
I wouldn't mind hearing the longer, more detailed comments and/or analysis either. Just paraphrase if it's too long to translate.
Thanks!

This thread doesn't make any sense!
Why are you posting random comments from a random tournament from a random country? Is it because you think that MLG, netizens and korea are so important?

Asian Pride baby! hahahaha, I kid.. well skill-wise it's only a few more months and we'll all be (everyone in the world) will be Korean play things at an alarming rate, at least in BW it took them 6 years before Foreigners started sucking and Koreans started owning..
We need those team houses and korean practice regimens now!

Not sure if trolling, but I'll humor you.
People like to hear perspectives of other people. Hearing what the Koreans have to say is very interesting to me, and it gives me another way to look at things. It's also entertaining.

this. it just gets irritating when koreans win almost everything they play in. and if they dont win than theres always a reason. And the korean fanbase knows this. and im disappointed in the foreign community for not having any foreigner spirit. I guess my foreign fanboyism gets the best of me sometimes (more lately than ever).

Thanks as always. Looking forward to tomorrow's, can't help but think Sen has to be favored over July's ZvZ and Naniwa has already shown that he can take down Moon. Also the epic showdown of MC-Bomber.

Get this man a star.
Great job as always, I'm looking forward to these threads every time there is a big foreign tournament.

korea + liquid fighting. Seems like Jinro and Haypro improved a lot. Very impressed with both of them. And Huk and Moon both performing above expectations.

I have no such thing because I'm not a "foreigner". If an American player performs then I'd be happy for them but I really don't give a half ass about a ukranian Dutch players playing against Koreans. In fact, I would cheer for the Koreans because their plays serves as lessons demonstrated to all SC players. I don't know how much any of the "reasons" contribute to their losses but they've won every game under optimal condition so they appear to be quite valid in most cases.

good enough for me. when foreigners and koreans are on equal footing I will root for the best player.

Equal footing? What, does koreans automatically have more time left over to practice for SC2? I don't get it.

I'm sure he would own everyone in this thread including you. Anyway, he's good enough to advance to top 8 in MLG columbus and now at least top 8 in Dreamhack, not to mention his 2nd place finish at IEM. Give credit where it's due.

i don't understand this argument, and it comes up so frequently in LR threads. most NBA fans and sports writers will obviously never beat lebron james in a 1 on 1. and obviously he's accomplished a lot in his past. but it doesn't mean they aren't right when saying lebron james played badly in games 5 and 6 of the 2011 NBA Finals. why do people get so offended when SC2 spectators criticize bad SC2 play? yes, Moon is better at SC2 than me, obviously. yes, Moon has had great success in previous tournaments. and yes, Moon had a bad game or 2 at DHS2011. discussing the 3rd one doesn't mean we don't recognize the first 2.

LOL "seems like korean flag is automatic win" I laughed!!!

thanks for posting, its cool some rooting for huk also.

Thanks for the translations! Haha, some korean fans are pretty complacent with their victory after victory. There were a lot of "explanations" by the foreigners about the lack of foreigner success in GSL - mainly that there wasn't many of them there. However, when the koreans play in foreign tournaments, they seem to win all their games.
I know that this is said many times - but I hope that the foreigners all knuckle down and practice their hardest to catchup with them! Especially looking forward to the foreigners in Code A next season! Fighting!!
|
If you want to translate more reactions, you'd better go into 스타2 게시판 and search the pages when the games were playing. most of communications of playxp.com are not going on news replies.(which you've been translating). Actually there are lot of reactions, it's just hard to find them for foreigners.(Korean doesn't use thread system), because playxp people tend to talk 스타2 게시판 when something is going on.

I don't think they are claiming him as their own in the sense you are thinking of. He lives and trains in Korea the same as they do, he differs completely from foreigners. The only thing different between Huk and the Koreans right now is skin color and language, everything else is the same.

" In the end, we are all just Earthlings sharing the same planet...
Anyways, cool to hear these Korean reactions. It seems that the debate about Huk's role in the scene never ends, even over there in Korea. It's lovely to see Korean reactions to foreign events.

What would be super interesting is if someone translated our reactions of their reactions, got their reactions to our reactions, and then translated it back to English for us to see. he is their own. A korean won dreamhack. A bit like when IdrA won MLG DC. IdrA is not as korean as he used to be but he's still a product of the korean regiment just like huk is. Although that is a really shitty example because Messi plays for Barca since hes what, 14 maybe?

Huk learned the basics of SC/SC2 in NA, but refined it to Championship status in Korea vs. superior competition. Similarly, Nowitzki learned to shoot jumpers in Europe, but mastered Iso/low post in the NBA vs. superior competition.
One can argue the Messi analogy to be flawed because he spent his whole youth in the Barca system, and so he plays a Spanish style of soccer. That would give credibility to those Koreans who claim Huk as their own, if Huk never played Starcraft before and was just thrown into a Korean house. Then people would have a point in saying he's "Korean".

Still no day 2 reactions?

Maybe, though I read it to mean they are jerks. I could be wrong.

I appreciate the work you do, siz.fantasy, it's fantastic!
Any word on day 2 / 3?

Hmm, day 2 will be far more interesting. I wonder what they will have to say about Huk winning.

as usual, always interesting to hear what fans on the other side of the world think. thanks, and keep it up!

Telcontar did already translate day3 on an earlier page.

I share this sentiment. The SC2 community's single-minded fixation on nationality is becoming a little obnoxious.

Watch any sport and you'll see that the best, most powerful games come out at things like Olympics (hockey), World Cup and other event where you play for YOUR country. Nationalism and Patriotism drive people to be better because its not just about them, its about their homeland (in some cases Motherland! )

Hatred is a part of passion. If you're a passionate person, you dont just love something or someone more then other things, you'll also feel all other ranges of emotions more distinctly. And a little anger/hatred is not a bad thing per se, only if combined with terrible judgement or loose morals.

huk is representing Liquid not canada, canada didn't send him to korea, liquid did... so that olympics national pride comparison is not valid.

I personally don't really care about "normal" professional sports (I don't really follow it, it's not for me) so I don't know.
I do know for SC/SC2 I root for people that play the same starcraft 2 race as me (zerg) and people that I semi know/help...if ever, or if I ever get onto a team, I'll root for the players, otherwise.................. Just Zergs and really good players.

If people are surprised at the nationalism in this game they must've never followed a regular sport. There is nothing weird or dumb about supporting someone based on their nationality.
|
Seems like all they talk about is him not being Korean, and then weirdly rationalising it by him being "a GSL-leaguer", and "half-Korean" and "not active in the foreign scene anyway".
Geez, does everything have to be so focused on race all the time?
I know foreigners get excited when we beat Koreans in tournaments, but these Korean reactions seem to be a little bit unsporting to me, which I don't think the foreign community does as much.

Ahm, no? Thats just not true... In fact many VERY "popular" sports aren't played at the highest level at the "World"-Championships... Examples? Soccer, Icehockey, Tennis, Basketball.... Hell, every sport were the players aren't constantly starting for "their country".
Nationalism and Patriotism drive the fans, not the athletes.

i'm european and i was rooting for huk to win over naniwa. I respect huk because he had the balls to go to korea (i respect those who went to korea like jinro, tyler, idra, incontrol. torch etc) and go to a country where english isn't the main language and basically be totally out of his element. Huk did that and adapted and he is good friends with a lot of koreans living the progamer dream and rightfully so.
What makes me a fan of a player is their mentality, determination, skill, uniqueness (strats) and work ethic. I am no fan of lazy people. i love it how people say oh it's hard going to another country etc. Yeah sure it's hard but we have a lot of expatriates going overseas for work reasons and otherwise and unless you are a basement loving nerd, you will actually think that going overseas and visiting another country is actually a great thing to do while you are young. Life is all about experience. Living in america or one country and not experiencing the culture or other countries is just screwing yourself over. At the end of the day. Going to another country should be seen as a positive thing and jinro said he wants to stay in korea now. Korea has one of the highest standards of living...much higher than the us and similar to london. It's a step up, not a step down.
