But I have nothing to base that on other than my own personal logic.

Was pissed at lag (like 3000Ms) and just scv all-inned every game. Probably unwise lol On April 22 2011 09:58 KillerPlague wrote: id be willing to bet this is because a certain amount of time has gone by since the new season, and everyone that played 1 game for their placement match is now considered inactive. this means new spots open up since leagues are 20/20/20/20/20 of active players. imo ![]() ooh good thinking but FYI leagues are like top100/2%/6%/24%/28%/40% I pulled that out of my ass but you can check Excalibur Z's thread for exact numbers I'm sure

But most likely because there've been less active players lately? Seems like there were only 8k games the whole day yesterday instead of the usual 12k+.

Noticing some players were not being promoted as soon as they should have been, we’ve made an adjustment to the ladder that will promote them in a more timely fashion My total WAG is that they looked at what happened to Grandmaster's and why some people had a hard time and/or weren't able to get in, and discovered a bug in promotions somewhere, and not limited to GM. Once they fixed it, a byproduct is a lot of people were affected by that bug got promoted. Too bad for this season for GM though.

I'd guess that Blizzard's thought process is that the type of detail that Excalibur_Z puts into his threads is way, way more technical than they'd ever want to put out there themselves, so they give him nudges to keep him on the right track rather than offer their own thick, mathematically laden document on how the SC2 ranking system works. As for this current issue, Excalibur_Z has implied that he has specific information that the league boundaries changed. Absent that, I might have also wondered whether this might either be a result of a large shift in inactivity from people who came back after the reset dropping back out of the game (as someone above suggested) or alternatively some kind of correction for promotions that might otherwise be dictated by existing league boundaries not happening in a timely fashion. Excalibur_Z: I'm guessing you are pretty certain those two possibilities are not the cause of this recent shift. Can you blink once for yes, twice for no? Yeah I spoke with a couple of people a few days ago, which was when I learned about the impending hotfix. Now that it's receiving official acknowledgment I feel a little more comfortable =) My eyes kind of bugged out when I saw someone reposted this on the Bnet forums (before the blue post went up).

That summary sounds more like what they described in the blue post than the league MMR boundaries actually changing, but I wouldn't necessarily expect the telephone game from developers -> CM staff -> blue post to yield a perfectly accurate statement of what changed, either.

What was likely changed were the qualifications used to determine what category players fell into (league or activity status). Nah it was definitely a threshold change. What we don't know is which leagues were affected. The only one I know for sure is the Bronze breakpoint (which would also affect Silver). Not sure about the rest -- maybe Master wasn't affected at all.
