when there is a new division opened since more players are around, there will be 100 people promoted, then there will be new holes that need to get filled etc. So mass promotion is pretty normal and if they open up more then one division, there will be so much promotions that people will brag so much about it, that it will soon end up in a did you notice there were alot of promotions lately thread.

I had been thinking I might get promoted soon. I made gold 3-raxing with Terran but then switched to protoss for awhile, lost a ton and was placed into Silver after the season reset (unsurprisingly). But I eventually worked out the 4gate timing and have been winning again.
And my friend who was promoted also had it coming for a long time, but it was a weird coincidence that we hit it on the same exact day -- each on 1v1. Then when I was watching Huk's livestream while waiting for my friend to be ready to 2v2, I decided to brag/credit inspiration from Huk in the chat and a bunch of people mentioned getting promoted to Gold, too. For most of us promotions are pretty slow, so it seemed like an odd coincidence.
I had a hunch that the leagues weren't splitting as Blizz has stated is intended, so they might have moved the MMR requirements around. Or maybe there was a ban wave. Or after the reset to Season 2, discovered that a whole bunch of gold/plat accounts weren't active anymore.
The team leagues seem just weird, though, btw. I qualified in plat in 2v2, 3v3 and 4v4 even though I was playing pretty solidly Silver-level 1v1. It seems hard to believe that I'm relatively that much better than the other team players than I am at 1v1.

I got my promotion this week... but I have had like an 80% win rate for the last 40 or so games... so I was rank1 diamond sitting on alot of points.. promoted to rank 42 masters

hopefully I can get a promotion to masters, but I honestly don't know if I've been deserving it recently. I've been trying out spanishiwa's style because it really fits with how I like to play the game, but not having the most luck with it so far (just me not being used to it I think)
It will be interesting to see how the league numbers all change once we have a bit of a better snapshot of them.

I felt I have been deserving of masters for a long time... I was playing only masters for like 2 weeks now and then bam... like a magic gift from the pagan gods... IE a flaming sword I got the lovely masters icon and "You're performance has qualified you for a higher league"

I haven't been promoted, but I've been on a massive win streak the last couple days. Also I've noticed that each game it has always said "teams even" or my team was "slightly favored", never the other team.
Maybe it's just luck.

I've been top 1 or 2 in my silver division consistently, but haven't played a couple of days, so maybe a promotion is in store. That said, it's not as though a promotion makes you any better at the game! :D

been thinking... and this is what ive concluded....
if the grandmaster league activity rule is 180 bonus points and the ladder has been running roughly 2 weeks.
Since leagues are a moving percentage of active players, what if the 180 bp rule applies to determining a player in say silver is active or not? (or at least something close to it) which would explain the sudden shift in players.
