1. We need music! We need music in between games while the casters are talking, and we need in-game music.
2. Audio normalization. This is 100% mandatory. I don't mind hearing the casters yell and scream from excitement, but please, just normalize this shit because last night my ears just died. This was an issue in the Clash of the titans showmatch as well as GCPL iirc. Also I noticed a number of background noises, similar to a microphone scraping or rubbing against something.
3. More colorful or interesting setup in between games: 2 people wearing grey suits, in front of a grey wall = not good.
4. Last but not least: maybe I missed something but I thought that the pre-recorded live casting would've allowed higher production quality. Didn't see any "wow" factor or whatever you call it.
A comment about the casters' and the observer's performance, I think it was okay, but nothing impressive yet.

Change the format for next season, as someone who watches everything Starcraft puts out, I even thought the 5 best of threes a night is hard to watch. The group play of GSL is more exciting, easier to follow, and not as long, in my opinion

I think the NASL is off to a great start. It didn't crash and burn technically like MLG, it's production quality was very high, easily on par with GSL.
I like the casters, they aren't tastetosis.... but that's the point. Give them some time to grow on you. There were outcries against Dan/Nick in the early GSL days as well.
The only thing I can really think of that should be worked on is the in game observing (they missed a few things that were key... but this gets better over time.. just like at the GSL) and the early game editing needs some work... the intro dual player (corner to corner display) would come up really late, often after Gretorp had finished speaking. Also often both corners would show the same player?
At any rate, I can't wait to see this evolve, I am loving the NASL so far and hope this quality continues.

Get a rock band or a pop group like Secret for between games.
|
1. Too much bloom in game. 2. Map flybys have hp bars on rocks and mouse visible 4. Every blink, fungal, ect is apparently a "great blink, fungal, ect" even if its the only possible move 3. Any professionalism is lost when the lag box comes up, regardless of if its something NASL can control. Any sync issues of replays are much less jarring and can be controlled and edited. 4. Commentary about the matchup should be before the matchup, not before the cast.

Upload vods faster, I dont even know where to find them.

I think NASL is off to an awesome start The casters are doing good IMO. and the stream was perfectly fine for me.
|
Main thing I saw (probably mentioned) was just general casting issues. It wasnt once or twice the tab was set to none, and I recall in one game it was pretty much set on Unit Lost the entire time, which is important but unit production would have been very helpful.

Obviously a great first cast.. people complaining about spoilers.. get over it. This is a 9 week league and it will literally be almost impossible for you to watch every single match. I'd personally rather catch as much as I can live and be spoiled the rest.
On that note, I think a small website fix in the standings would be nice. Right now it shows alphabetical order which is incredibly awkward to look at and try to pick out who is in the lead. If possible it'd be nice to have it as a ranking instead.
*edit Also those complaining about the casting issues. Go and watch the first every GSL game. It was FUCKING TERRIBLE (to quote incontrol)

you arent looking. the entire stream was up on jtv as soon as the show ended in 7 parts. It was not split into games but you can watch the entire broadcast

My only complaint right now is the standings website doesn't update the standing based on how many points a current player has. It has artosis in the 1 position with -2 points. It's just a little weird to not be able to glance at this page and tell who is in the lead in each division.

I am really loving NASL and Gretorp/Incontrol. Only two suggestions I have are 1) turn on the music 2) when one caster is talking the other one should not interrupt. Incontrol did that quite a few times and it just ends up sounding like gibberish when two casters are trying to speak at the same time
Other than those two little things I thought it was absolutely great and well worth my $25. =)

to make it a live event rather then an internet tournament. imo if they would reduce price money to get a studio it will be far more exciting.
|
Turn on the music but only for games without audience (before ro16). We saw that DH didnt have music enabled for their live show and it showed to be really great, we could really hear the crowd directly reacting to the casting and clearly hear it.

I thought this was casted over replays? NASL is in its first week so ya there is going to be alot of errors but give it some time. the staff over there will work all the kinks out. to make it a perfect show for us viewers. good job on first day. cant wait for next

You can't make a 10 or whatever week tournament with Koreans and Europeans a full live tournament. No matter how much money you have, the players themselves wouldn't ever do it, and even for North America it would be a big commitment since the US is rather large, and Canada is also damned big.
The final stages of the tournament are in-person live, but this stuff can't reasonably be, and isn't.
http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=195486 Read about the NASL setup before asking for things they can't reasonably do (and are doing at the point where it does become viable).

So first of all I'd like to say watching NASL was awesome last night. I must say first of all that I'm really happy it's streaming through justin.tv as it was an awesome experience being able to get some friends and crowd around the big screen at my house and stream it via Roku.
So into some feedback...
Honestly I'd say it started off a bit rocky. Gretorp seemed a bit awkward/nervous but I'm sure anyone would feel that way kicking off a new series. Once the games got going however both iNcontroL and Gretorp (esp.) got into their groove and relaxed a bit more compared to the start of the cast and made it a much more enjoyable experience to watch. I'm thinking in a few days it will be smooth sailing the whole way through and will just resolve itself in due time. That being said here are my 2 main pieces of feedback that I wanted to give:
1. Microphones - Prior to my post the term mic had been used in this thread already 59 times which pretty much sums up my main concern and feelings of those I watched with. I was thinking condenser mics with some nice studio arms + pop filters might be a better choice then lapel mics given that they seem to be looking down often during the cast and may still get pop/breath noises in those types of mics. Also TimeSpiral had an excellent post about audio processing and I think a lot could be gained from working with him in improving the audio quality of the casters.
2. Music - This was my second biggest concern but surprisingly it seems to have been mentioned nearly twice as often as mic (Ctrl-F music shows 116 in chrome). During the game I don't see this as much of an issue but once a game wraps up it would be nice to have some background music going in the time period between games. There were a few moments leading up to and between matches where the studio felt lifeless (for lack of a better term) and I think this can be attributed to mostly to the lack of background music and how dark the studio feels.
I think the above 2 points go a long way in improving the quality of this show.
Otherwise it was an excellent production and I'm glad you are welcoming community feedback and hope you will take it to heart to improve the product. Looking forward to tonight's show!
TL;DR
The clipping & popping mic inputs really take away from how much work you have put into the show and some light background music (at least when not in a match) would go a long way in improving the ambiance of the studio between games.

I totally agree with the fact that they need better microphones.

i posted this in the nasl 25$ pass thread but i wana post it here too i think its really important with how these streams work how you deliver content to your costumers. So they can veiw your content at their leisure especially since i know people just like me can stop and re pickup were they left off during a series.
so far im in love with NASL , but the vods should be more organized. Im watching grubby vs. moon right now on my other monitor and its all one vod thats 1hr long with no sections to divide up the series then on the video list there is another vod with the same name and 14min long. Also there is pre-game show stuff that is all the same name weird times and i dont know exactly what it all is. trust me tho ill watch it all and figure it out but i would love to see a little more organizing like GSL has other then that I'M IN LOVE!

planned commercial breaks instead of random breaks in the stream where i'm like what was he gonna say!!
"we'll be back for the start of game 2 right after this short commercial break" boom.
