When warping in a High Templar, you can briefly observe a more elaborate cape texture, only for it to escape you.
![[image loading]](http://imgur.com/0kjh7.png)
When converting a Gateway to a Warp Gate, the right side of the arc begins to open before the other.
![[image loading]](http://imgur.com/7BfzO.png)
The status portrait for the Warp Gate displays the front and rear arcs in an erect position; this is never represented in-game. [Edit: Not to be construed into the case of the Gateway - probably my fault]
![[image loading]](http://imgur.com/HyQmM.png)
When a Gateway warps in, you can briefly see an older rendition of its crystal.
![[image loading]](http://imgur.com/wHMp3.png)
The Protoss color palette has many incongruencies: notably, the color and quality of Khaydarin crystals with wildly contrasting hues of blue and sometimes being team colored. They become increasingly wuutt when powered and unpowered variations are compared. Also, Protoss structures that do not require Pylon power flip on like a light switch instead of smoothly transitioning into a powered state.
![[image loading]](http://imgur.com/axOm7.png)
When a Warp Gate loses power, the void never dissipates; likewise, the globe in the Fleet Beacon remains visible.
![[image loading]](http://imgur.com/JjuYI.png)
The decals on the Robotics Bay retain an unusual luminance after the structure has lost power.
![[image loading]](http://imgur.com/uFqfO.png)
Protoss air units undergo a warp-in animation script upon completion when spawned from a Nexus, Robotics Facility, or Stargate. Ground units lack this script when spawned from a Nexus, Gateway, Robotics Facility, or Warp Prism.
![[image loading]](http://imgur.com/slg1m.png)
When the Command Center upgrades, Its flaps open to allow the construction barricade to erect. However, when the Command Center is under construction and the same case is true, the flaps are not visible, and revealed to be in the closed position when the barricade recedes.
![[image loading]](http://imgur.com/2HEfa.png)
The Factory is the only Terran structure to have its window lights on before completing the construction animation.
![[image loading]](http://imgur.com/UqD9C.png)
Both Vespene Geyser models unnecessarily clip through the Extractor while it is mutating.
![[image loading]](http://imgur.com/G6qyQ.png)
Gas barrels emit light for a very wide radius, gas cubes even less so, and gas sacks don't glow at all.
![[image loading]](http://imgur.com/Kb9jK.png)
The luminance and texture of the gas barrel shown at the refinery and the model carried by workers do not match.
![[image loading]](http://imgur.com/U8bmW.png)
In Starcraft 2, armor names are homogenized for all units that belong to that school; because some units possess more than one standard attack, attacks are given individual names. The reason this is relevant is because I'm trying to establish congruency rules for armor names that attack names do not adhere to. When an armor name doesn't match its upgrade, it's something to talk about, unlike attack names which have a valid exclusion.
![[image loading]](http://imgur.com/yJIpK.png)
Zerg Building armor is the only structure armor to not have a unique icon, instead it shares the same icon as Ground Carapace Level 1.
None of the unit armor schools for Protoss share the same naming scheme for both the upgrade title and armor title; the same is true for shields.
The 'Protoss Plating' armor title is used for both Protoss structures and Protoss air units.
The incremental icon set for Protoss Plating (air units) and its upgrades is not congruent in form, nor is it congruent in color scheme when compared against Protoss Armor (ground units).
Protoss Plating (structures) Is the only first tier icon with a colored aura; assuming Zerg Building Armor is in error.
The Baneling's attack icon does not match the Melee Attacks school, despite belonging to it and honoring its upgrades.
The Spore Crawler's attack icon does match the Missile Attacks school, despite not belonging to it nor honoring its upgrades.
![[image loading]](http://imgur.com/5dCcg.png)
Most racial status verbs that were present in the original Starcraft are not present in Starcraft 2's UI (Opening Warp Gate, Evolving, etc) regardless of what race or UI you are using.
-----------------------------------------------------UPDATE---------------------------------------------------------------
The Command Center/Orbital Command door closes in a different fashion and to a greater degree when lifted off than it does while upgrading.
![[image loading]](http://imgur.com/YEo0u.png)
Dropping an SCV from a flying Command Center does not utilize the Terran drop animation used by Medivacs (Pictured Below); instead, the SCV just appears as if spawned.
![[image loading]](http://imgur.com/WK30j.png)
The Command Center's destruction is of a lower fidelity when compared with other Terran/Protoss production and research structures - it is also the only structure of those kinds to not leave behind large gibs.
![[image loading]](http://imgur.com/GzC0S.png)
The same can be said, more or less, for the Nexus. It's only large gib is identical to the base of a Gateway/Warp Gate.
![[image loading]](http://imgur.com/8v4AB.png)
When an unpowered Robotics Facility is destroyed, the animation's first frame immediately begins with the canopy in a reclined position. This is the only in-game method that I have found to produce this. Because it lacks a decal and is similar to the Robotics Bay's unpowered state, it can be assumed that it once served that very same purpose, but was later changed. I can't prove it, but I actually remember it looking like that in the beta.
![[image loading]](http://imgur.com/dT8XA.png)
Completed Protoss structures in the absence of pylon power introduce some interesting results.
- They begin and remain bronze - The power-up aura occurs - The power-up animation occurs if applicable, and lights are turned on
At this point, one of 2 courses is taken, depending on the scripts used for that structure
- The power-down animation occurs, lights are turned off, and spinning parts continue if present - Lights remain on (pictured below)
![[image loading]](http://imgur.com/UgpGS.png)
The Roach almost doesn't have a crumbled trail during burrowed movement, this particular frame is generous.
![[image loading]](http://imgur.com/5RCwZ.png)
When the Spore Crawler roots, it lacks the additional thorny collar that the Spine Crawler acquires.
![[image loading]](http://imgur.com/ETzY7.png)
The base of the Greater Spire is actually an Infestation Pit. [Edit: Sorry guys, I noticed this in unit tester v0.92, and double checked it in a standard melee game and found out it isn't true. I'm going to leave the entry up so no one will read posts pertaining to this and wonder if they are missing something.]
![[image loading]](http://imgur.com/HZYyz.png)
Don't ask how this wire connects or something bad might just happen to you.
![[image loading]](http://imgur.com/8poK6.png)
-------------------------------------------------------UPDATE 2-----------------------------------------------------------
As of Patch 1.3.1, both the Zerg and Protoss UIs are using the Terran gas barrel next to the gas count. I'm going to guess this was recently broken with 1.3.0's new interface features.
![[image loading]](http://imgur.com/LJbqd.png)
When multiple units are selected with the Zerg UI, orange aliasing is visible around the status portraits. [Please squint]
![[image loading]](http://imgur.com/FZeoW.png)
The status portraits of all units with visible upgrades (Zerglings, Marines, Bunkers, etc) reflect said upgrades within the portrait, except for the Battlecruiser, which remains unchanged after researching Weapon Refit.
All units face south-east in their production icons. All units also face south-east in their status portraits; the only exceptions being the units pictured below, which face south-west. Related or not, they are all Terran.
During alpha phase, the Zerg cocoon had really nice caustics and a fluid swimming animation; warping-in structures had a wisp that would orbit the void. I don't know if the omission of either was deliberate, but you can see both of them in action by digging up Battle Report 3.
![[image loading]](http://imgur.com/JBopt.png)
Like the Factory and Starport, the Barracks does pump when producing units; however, the animation is so slow and subtle that it took me a year and a whole thread about it to notice. It also has unused lights that haven't been active since early alpha. Ironically, the one light the barracks does use isn't on the model itself, as pictured.
![[image loading]](http://imgur.com/sR9Kd.png)
The Baneling production icon is miscolored and no longer matches the unit after the texture change during late beta.
![[image loading]](http://imgur.com/lkb3T.png)
The Spine Crawler production icon is actually a depiction of the alpha Spine Crawler.
![[image loading]](http://imgur.com/6BAPs.png)
All Protoss units and structures with shining veins do so passively, with the exception being the Nexus, which only pulses while producing units.
![[image loading]](http://imgur.com/px2UL.png)
Some tooltips in the game use the term 'supply' to refer to 'psi' and 'control'. Also, the first argument offered from the supply count tooltip is false for all three races.
![[image loading]](http://imgur.com/0keFG.png)
I'm not going to decide what qualifies as inconsistent verb usage for all cases; here's one of many(as described earlier, and even in the image above) that makes a safe suspect.

interesting... Thanks for sharing ^^

Wow, pretty cool thread, and you obviously put a lot of work into it.
Is that upgrades picture chart yours? It's awesome :D
|
I consider my self an observant person but you've really delivered an interesting analysis of SC2. It will be interesting to see what practical use this data will have.
|
It's always stuck out to me that Zerg and Terran T3 upgrades have an orange hue, while Protoss has a blue hue. While T1 is a pretty consistent green, and T2 is a different color for each race, only T3 Protoss is unique.
|
wow......um you have some spare time.
|
Wow, interesting! Definitely a lot of stuff that I hadn't noticed before! I have seen some of the small things like the gas barrels and upgrade names, but other things like the crystals are something that completely escaped me (mind you, I'm not playing on high graphics settings, either)!
|
how about the photon cannon weapon being called "photon cannon"
|
waiting for unseen penises
|
One practical use for the data would be for the devs to fix all of these little incongruencies to make a finished product. But we've known for a long time that SC2 was released before it was finished.
Great work OP, I'm sure many will appreciate the effort you put into this.
|
Holy shit, you must be amazing at Where's Waldo...
|
Woah this is unique. I found this really interesting. Did you find all this yourself or did you just pull from other places?
|
Very cool and nice work on the post didn't notice most of those little things.
|
Good read, interesting details I have never noticed. Also how abt the... SEntry?
|
i would never care for such things like this. animation is cool, but does it really affect anything? if the answer is no, i tend to gloss over things.
That's probably why i have bad handwriting. At a certain point in 2nd grade, filling out an entire sheet seemed really pointless, and that if it's recognizables, it's "good enough". and that's how many handwriting went down the drain.
yeah, like art is cool, but u can't realllly compare it with other arts, like you can compare, say, the efficiency of a build order with another, or the cost effectiveness of income... Something with an objective measurement for something better "better" according to whatever dimension or aspect. Then the scale of "better-ness" and possibility for "improvement" becomes undefined and ur sort of lost. I'm not wired the way most people in the arts are.
|
it's always annoyed me that there is no real animation from larva --> egg
|
Wow, I didn't know that templars have such weird hair. I think I need to take a better look at the small things in game. This post is good, I specially liked what you noticed in vaspene gas collection animation.

Pretty funny stuff. How did you notice all this???? Did you actively search for it or do you just naturally notice these incongruencies?
|
|
I thought this was gonna be a list of sites like goatse or something, lol
|
|
Mind blowing stuff there. Starcraft 2 will never be the same again TT
|
This is pretty awesome, lol. Thanks for sharing.
|
How did Blizzard let this happen?! lol. Some good work, lots of time I would think to figure all these out
|
|
I was disappointed that the OP was not longer. Seriously, this is fascinating stuff right here. Blizzard was quite careful with most of their subtle details, yet there are still quite a few little hiccups in their art design. Learning about this stuff is quite mind-blowing. Almost as mind-blowing as learning that there is a man in the Terran missile turret.
|
missile turret has a man in it
I also believe the roach in the roach warren is a different size then the in-game model
|
So what are the chances someone(s) on the art team is about to get chewed out now?
Edit: And how the hell did you spot the difference between the arcs on the transforming warpgate? Even if you took screenshots of everything, drew symmetrical lines over all of it, and then examined it, it's still so small of a window to capture the right moment, and even more difficult to see it not knowing it's there. Insane.
|
Oh yeah. There is a tiny Roach head that sometimes sticks out of the Roach Warren.
When the Evolution Chamber dies, you can see it's endoskeleton in it's remains.
Also, does the Infestation Pit look like a mutated Guardian? I looks like that to me.
|
I love it when people are this meticulous about things! Really GJ OP!
|
I can't believe I read all of that.
It's actually intriguing.
|
Planetaries, Orbitals, Warpgates, and so on all Morph in.
that makes me rage just a little bit every time.
|
wow this is really cool! thanks for sharing
|
After reading the thread, I conclude that protoss is broken, zerg is fine, only Terran's cc is broken.
|
You sir, have alot of time! Respect! Thanks for this tho.

This one's pretty noticeable, particularly when players are converting for their 4 gate. I think it's a nice touch, the lack of symmetry in coordination.
|
I've always thought that the creature in the Roach Warren wasn't a roach because it doesn't really look like one.
It should also be added that when a creep tumor spawns another creep tumor, the bubbles on the old one blink until the new one is finished spawning. It's really creepy (unintentional pun), and now I can't unsee it.

Yeah agree with the last part, I hate clicking on larva and seeing a Mutalisk being "Trained". Like do they have training facilities in the egg or something?
Cool finds by the way.

Here's one for ya: Those bubbles are actually eyeballs O.o

I wish I could play this game on ultra settings, to have a chance to notice most of these things.

When i went into this thread (it having the name things you cannot unsee) I was expecting something very different and had to view it due to that trainwreck mentality people have.
Things turned out much better than expected :D

In all seriousness, wow, can't believe you noticed all of that. Kind of an odd way to start off my morning, but hey.

Sable finds needles in hay stacks as his profession.

Some serious attention to detail here. Blizzard's art director probably couldn't point all this out.
|
I can't imagine how long it took you to put this entire thread together with pictures and explanations of everything let along finding it all out, nonetheless it was an enjoyable read. So thanks

Insane. The non-symmetry of the transformation I think I noticed one of the first times I saw the animation - the right side starts moving slightly before the left side. I just thought it was a cool little touch that they should make it not quite perfect. I didn't notice most of the other crap in the OP though, and for much of the stuff in the OP I can't actually see what's wrong even with screenshots focusing on them in detail :/
Mr OP, you should consider going for a job in QA - you clearly have the attention to detail to do it well

I've noticed that the Yamato Gun upgrade doesn't actually use the same icon as the Yamato gun button. Kind of sloppy if you ask me.

That was pretty awesome. Great job!

The front and rear arcs on the warp gate do "erect" as you say on some of the higher graphics levels, ive seen it on a husky video im sure
otherwise pretty cool thx!

Get the watchtower on delta quadrant...

Wow. You should sent this to Blizzard, perhaps it might get fixed with HotS. :D

Crazy how you noticed all that. I got my first cannot unsee moment early in the beta when I was watching some game being casted and I saw a reaper die near the end of the map where the cliff was and his remains actually rolled down that cliff and fell into god knows where. I was really amazed. Well that's obviously the intended graphics feature but still...was pretty cool.

Yup in fact this happened to me the other day. The reason its often not seen is because its only used when a gateway is making units which is vary rarely done (albeit for that first 1-2 units) and it might have something to do with higher graphics settings.

A funny thing to notice with the "Ball Behaviour" of SC2 units.

The roach upgrades used to be normal in beta, but for some ridiculous reason, they switched them in one of the patches. This still confuses me when I'm trying to get speed or burrowed movement.

People, in rotational-symmetrical maps there is a high probability of terrain possibly looking a bit like a swastika when singled out. You shouldn't really try to induce imagery that isn't actually meant in that way, especially when it's not even in an outright swastika shape.

Great thread. Here is something that annoys me every time the game is loading.
On the splash screen of the Marine (Jim Raynor?) there is something projected on his cheek. The idea is probably that this is a feature of the marine suit to display information for the operator, but it would not work. Try yourself to stare into the cinema projector instead of looking at the screen. The only thing you see is bright light.

Terminus RE is actually a remake of a Blizzard original, a 2v2 map called Terminus. So it was likely just a Blizzard employee.

I don't understand this thread at all. Only like...4 of all of the examples mean anything, or are worth pointing out. most of everything your saying is the exact same thing is if I made a thread that said "Zealots have 2 blade weapons!" "Dark Templars have multiple models!" "Zerglings catch air sometimes when they have their speed upgrade!" these are things EVERYONE sees and knows, and pointing out almost everything here is just stupidly obvious and makes no sense for a thread about it.

Don't feel sad about building missile turrets! The man in the missile turret is PAID to whirl around all day! Plus, he probably operates in daily shifts between someone else (although it still is boring to do that for 12 hours).
Also, the Man in the Missile Turret only has to stay there until the Terran Expidition is over. Once the enemy surrenders and is gone, the commander doesn't have to put ANYONE on duty until a threat is deteced (zerg swarm is detected via radar a light year away? Boom, put a man in the abandoned missile turret.

For the Protoss, right before an archon attacks, it loses all of its fire from its body and looks really weird. How did I discover this? I was making a joke about archons while watching a replay with my friend (in person) and an archon did a "Kamehameha" style animation. I paused it to point it out and it was lacking all of its fire.

@OP You probably notice things 99.9% of the population won't ever try to do. You're probably one hell of a quality checker if you ever worked for a company.
An interesting fact though, and I hope you don't find this offensive, some people with mental disabilities (I believe it's those with down syndrome) work for many computer companies that find flaws in the programming and get paid really good money for it.
You're probably more special in a good way though ^_^

one you haven't mentioned is the mutalisks portrait in the wireframe is, with a little imagination, similar to a T-rex, the wing in the upper right of the wireframe is the Trex's head!
edit: especially when the wireframe is small (such as in-game)

very nice, didn't know there were so many inconsistancies in the game. Hope that all of them will be fixed sooner or later. ^^

So the OP made me look back at Battle Report 3 and I was surprised to notice there was specific body area damage shown in the unit wireframes. That was a small detail I really missed from BW. Interesting to know that they removed it intentionally.. I guess it doesn't work well with the higher definition graphics.

I guess there removed it for another reason. Seeing which section took damage is great for immersion in single player. In multiplayer you need to see at the first glance what is up. You don't have the time to count the yellow or red sections. Even a look at the hitpoints display takes some time. Now with the solid colored model you immediately see the degree of damage.

Normally I would make some complaint about the way this has been phrased, but in this case I'm willing to accept that the OP is genuinely some kind of twisted, esport-centric manifestation of obsessive compulsive disorder.

Great, now Blizzard knows to fix all of these before they implement LAN.
