Delta quadrant is easily the worst map behind blistering. I think they removed shakuras because of PvT. That map is freaking hard for protoss if they aren't ready for the inevitable tank push on horizontal positions.

Just because a map doesn't favor your race/style of play/aesthetic feng shui doesn't mean that it isn't a good map. I'm glad to have new maps and I'm sure we'll figure out a system for practicing on the GSL maps and the regular ladder stuff. It's not about maps don't favoring my race. It's simply the fact that all of those map DO favor one race over another. I hate DQ as I favor 1rax FE and various greedy macro styles. But I would rather keep DQ and maintain 4gate/3rax allin/etc etc viability to keep the game honest. I hated the depot before rax change. Did I rax before depot much? No. But reducing options that aren't imbalanced only for the sake of simplifying the game provides for a very stale experience meant for entertainment. I say give me variety and lots of it.

My point is (not that I am complaining) just try and match a Protoss on equal bases. It's easy for them to do with the map architecture. Try and expand into the middle when you're a sidestep away from their fourth. Have a Terran push through the back, ask Idra how it feels . It's a great map, and it's fun that I don't die the minute it starts, but I'm going to reserve judgment on the new maps and determine if Shakuras is really needed amongst them. That being said, Delta is "lol" that they kept it in. oh well, I have a bunch of down votes to use up on it. ![]() I played a bunch of maps on the PTR and they are fantastic. Fantastic in the sense that they are better than the maps that were removed. I was just about disillusioned with the game when these came and I may go back to 1v1 games. I'll be playing this game seriously again, and that makes me really happy.

If you both spawn on the two bases on the right (vertically) then it is much easier for the person on the bottom to take their third. As in, hugely easier. With suck a blatent imbalance, how did it make it through? Agreed, rotational symmetry is simply always a bad idea. It allows one player to more easily expand away from their opponent and introduces imbalances where some bases are easier to harass for a given player. BOOOO. Regardless, I'm so incredibly happy blistering is gone. The only fun part about it was to see what kind of absolutely ridiculous cheese my opponent would pull just to make the game end faster. I'm off to check out the maps!

So far in my play, 3/3 were not close positions. Take that for what you will.

Zerg can't hold vs 2 rax (so much room to drop bunkers to split main and natural apart) Zerg can't hold vs hellion harass/hellion marauder push (just try to get some sort of hellion defense up at both the main and nat). Zerg can't win if Terran takes their gold with a PF (cuts off all attack routes and gives a gold to Terran) Zerg can't take the gold ever really (gold can be sieged from xel'naga or colossied from xel'naga) Scrap should be pretty much the same thing? Scrap has long rush distances and you can get an easy wall at the ramp in 2 creep tumors to defend hellions for both bases, you also have time to go roaches before hellions without having to blindly do it and can transition away from roaches before the marauder push. Gulch has short rush distances and even if you can block the ramp in time it still leaves your natural wide open to hellions. Vs 2 rax the long rush distance helps vs marines as well and the wide open area means a bunker between your main and nat can be easily dealt with. On gulch it's narrow and choked so a bunker can be protected and block off that route.

Yeah, the expo positions seem in the same places. I'd guess they tried to rework it to eliminate the backdoor push aspect when you spawned close, but to compensate decided to make the centre of the map somewhat less open? It'd be interesting to hear from anyone who's had a game on it what kind of size things are?
