Yeah, all spawns are possible on all maps.

As always, if these new maps were called iCCup Shattered Temple, iCCup Backwater Gulch, iCCup Slag Pits and iCCup Typhon Peaks everyone would be saying how great they are.

sorry but this is just bullcrap.

the reason people hate on them is cause they are mostly bad. shattered temple has 80%+ like votes , typhoon is 50/50 and the other 2 80% dislike votes. shouldnt all votes be negative then?


if you cant spot a bad map fine. but dont hate on other people because they can.

Almost all the new maps are small with over 3 entrance to your base and very large ramps. I think Idra submitted them for 90% win rate on ladder.

Typhoon Peaks is very.... unveildy. Having a hard time figuring out good positioning and the narrow hallways are annoying. So many death traps on this map.

It's challenging to play on and I can kind of see now why called shakuras a 'plain' map in comparision.

Generally having a lot of fun with these maps though.

I really like some of the changes in shattered temple, but the widening of the choke to the natural is horrific in my personal opinion -_- These sort of things promote a ton more one base plays.. =/

Shattered Temple is a lot of fun in FFA, because you fight for the third. You only get the gold if you are Terran, or your close opponent is dead. I also played some good macrogames on Gulch cross pos PvZ and PvT.

I agreed with his statement, i think many lower level players would feel akward on alot of the bigger maps. At least thats what i hear from some of my more SC2 newbie friends. They like the smaller simpler maps more...


what's wrong with having maps that are difficult for newbies? they're newbies, they can't play the game "correctly" to begin with, it's just one of many things that they have to learn to play SC2. it's especially ridiculous when blizz is forcing good players to play on newbie friendly maps.

This is okay, but I don't really like 3 of the 4 new ones. Typhon Peaks is WAY too large and WAY too big a pain in the ass for me as Zerg, I find that yes, I can move fast, and yes, I have won all 3 matches so far I have played on it, but I find them way too stressful in general. Slag Pits is just bad, I find it positionally awkward and very open to cheese and once again, as Zerg, I don't have much of a way to block the large openings into my base. Shattered Temple is pretty much the only one I like so far because it is very good to pick positions for fighting as my preferred race, and it doesn't feel like I'm steamrolling because I am fast. Backwater Gulch is a 50 50 on my mind, it's not bad because of the expo, but the distance is a little strange, and the back door into the expo feels weird. I can basically back door a wall into the first expo, but no further, I'll need some more time on this map to make a justifiable case for this one, I just found it awkward. All in all, I haven't had a match under 25 minutes on any of these new maps, which I find dumb when I steamrolled over 70% of the ones I played.

I like a map as long as there is a chance for a close spawn and a chance for a very long spawn.
I don't want to watch all macro games the same as I don't want to watch a all cheese games.
That's why I love Metalopolis and LT. The builds vary on these maps.

From a players perspective or observer? Often it is frustrating to have to pick a map not knowing whether you'll get 2rax'd or the opponent will FE; especially when you have to scout to know your own build.

The ideal to me would be to have 2 maps, one with longer positions (XelNaga) and one with shorter positions (Pawn Re) that are both balanced.

I believe Steppes was more balanced than Slag Pits or Backwater Gulch, and promoted more interesting gameplay. I can't believe they added 3 new 4-player maps, but left in the most imbalanced 4-player map in the pool, removing Shakuras instead. This is a terrible, terrible change.
We found Dove in a soapless place.

Isn't Backwater Gulch flawed? Spawning close positions means that one guy gets a closer gold base, while the other has to make do with a Xel'naga Watchtower?

For those who have not experienced it, on Typhon peaks terrans can siege up behind the rocks at your natural and hit your gas, as well as drop units through, but the distance is seperated by rocks! which means, you cant take on their army if the rocks are still up. Given that this is a reason the LT got changed to Lost Temple, why is this map like this right now? Its a complete problem when playing against terrans, and even harder to deal with than the high ground IMO.
