What league your opponents are in isn't very informative. A person's league may not represent recent movement in their score, or you may be playing people who placed recently and aren't in the right league anyway.
However, if you're winning a great deal more than you're losing, you'll eventually be promoted. Just keep at it.

Ok, cheers for the reply and help.. When I wrote this my perfomance was going quite well, I was winning the majority of games I was playing and it was all going good. The last couple of days have gone downhill however, in the last 15 games I've won 3. 1 was a longer game where I made a crucial mistake but MOST were cheeses. -_- What's really annoying is that I'd got pretty good at stopping a cheese and then went on to win those games but when it was one after the other it got to me and I threw each game.. /: Luckily it's stopped and I'm back to winning the majority of games but I guess getting a promotion is out of the question!

Allright ill will do that but, i hear that playing random teams will use my current 1v1 MMR or something like that?

Yeah, you can't play random team league or 1v1, only fixed team games, from what i understand. That will reset your MMR. But really, just keep playing if you want to play? Ok you might lose more in Platinum and get demoted but if you want to play, frigging play. Why would you want to wait over a month?

You'll get to your appropriate level a lot faster if you just play than if you throw a bunch of placements and have to climb your way back up. Of course, you won't get easy wins.

Sweet, after reading this I now know the scientific reasons for why I cant achieve my goals QQ

Added a section about "minimum division MMR", let me know if there's any confusion here.
Minimum Division MMR The "Favored" indicator compares your adjusted points to your opponent's MMR, but there also exists a concept known as "minimum division MMR". If your opponent's MMR is below the equivalent of 88 points in your division, that opponent will -- for the purposes of point calculation -- appear to have an MMR equivalent to 88 points in your division. This means that even if your adjusted points are below 0 and your MMR is far below your division's lower bound, you will see opponents as "Even" and earn the associated number of points for those games. This allows for all players to earn points up to a certain amount and removes the frustration associated with seeing yourself as "Favored" in every match.

Nope that's definitely not right. Insane's progress as Astraflame proves this. He was (is) in a high-ish Bronze tier but the opponents he faced were all very low for about 30-40 games, below the 73 level of his division.

So, I've read TeamLiquid for some time now, but finally got something worth posting.
Playing the v1.5 Beta, and decided to do some ladder play. Won the first four matches ezpz. Next one I play I get put up against a grandmaster for the beta. He states he's a masters in Korea.
I lost this game (by no means am I a seasoned enough player to have won this game); however, he gave the nice complement, "u did as well as pros." Oh, and I earned gold league =/
Character id (beta and reg sc2) CSmith.576 (not going to play any more games on it in beta)
Score Screen:

Posted in this thread, because, how do I face a grandmaster in placement matches, and only end up in gold league? I'm gold league in regular SC2 as well.

A top masters (formally GM) friend of mine just got matched up against a portrait farming bronze and got +1 for his victory. Looks like there's some bug where the very bottom can get matched against the very top. (This is on NA, not beta). I remember reading about this happening to some other GM earlier, too.

I was #5 in my league with 0 bonus pool when season ended, won my placement match and got demoted. WTF... They gotta fix the league system. I threw the first game in another league just to not get demoted. Was on exactly same position in another league. Lost my placement and got to stay in my league. Kinda weird I didn't get promoted though ;-)
Another time I got demoted when I was #17 in my league, that was as bad as it could get I thought =)
Why don't they just list where you're fukin at. Like you are 50k of 1.1m. You need to advance 30k places for promotion if you fall 40k places you get demoted.
They should at the very least split the leagues into active/passive. Where you are active if you have spent your bonus pool. Bonus pool should also be prespendable or just removed. It's beyond my comprehension that nobody at blizzard has ever heard of a game called chess. I mean Glicko or ELO ratings.
To me the league system with 100 people out of whom roughly 50 ppl have 0 wins when season ends. Where anyone who grinds enough games can get the #1 spot. Is just pure crap. They might aswell remove the league rooster and just list your league. Since that's essentially what they do anyway.
ps. Give me back my losses or else!

It's not enough to have a high rank because the bonus pool generally muddies up people in these four categories:
- Skilled and Active - Skilled and Not Active - Unskilled and Active - Unskilled and Not Active
This makes it possible for an unskilled but active player to be ranked above a skilled but inactive player because most players' points will come from bonus pool as time passes. The idea behind the bonus pool is to gradually and gracefully handle the varying activity levels of players rather than assign them hard labels "active" and "inactive". Additionally, there's a minimum amount of points that you will earn per game if your opponent's MMR is below a certain level. This means you can't rely on your division rank to identify whether you will be promoted, demoted, or remain in the same league. You need to investigate other elements, such as the leagues of the opponents you're commonly facing and the point gains of your recent games.

Hey,
how is this possible? To have 84 points with just one win?

From the original post:
When you are moved from one league to another, your score is reset to 73 + the amount of bonus pool you have spent so far.
So, this season this person placed into one league then got promoted or (more likely) demoted after that.

a friend of mine was in gold league and he asked me to play some games on his account. since i had nothing better to do, i 20-0d on his account. After that, he played 2 games, lost both, and got promoted to platinum and then directly into diamond. how is that even possible (happened in season 6 i believe)?
also, i would love to hear some specific info about GM. i feel its kind of random wether you get in or not. i saw ppl with mid master mmr in GM just like real pros not getting in even though there were still 100+ places left. doesnt make sense to me. i constantly play against the same opponents since season 2 and i think my mmr was quite stable throughout the whole time. i got gm in s2, 3, 6 and 7, but not in 4 and 5 - still playing the same guys, getting the same amount of points for wins etc. its feels rly weird...
