So I'm strongly considering entering the TL open and I have another tournament coming February (More an online qualifier) and I told myself in 2011 I'll do tournaments. So I have a couple questions/observations and you guys can tell me whether I'm right or wrong:

How nervewracking is it to play in a tournament compared to ladder? I hear you miss basic things (getting supply blocked, not making probes)

How many builds/strategies should you have in your arsenal? I've got standard builds but I want to play around with cheese because in tournaments (from what I hear and makes sense) you win at all costs, no matter what. You aren't there to necessarily improve but to WIN.

Thanks in advance

that's the way it's suppose to be. In professions sports commentating, you have one caster and one or two commentators.

The caster is kind of the "host" of the group. They talk the most, guiding the viewer through what's happening both in the game and in-between games. They do most of the announcing in between matches, cite statistics, introduce players, etc etc. Often times they are much more knowledgeable than they let on to be.

Commentators are like "special guests". They are the analysts whose main job is to give insight into the game. They compliment the caster's casting with their own professional or personal (and hopefully accurate) opinions.

In a typically game, the caster will "cast" and explain what's going on, and the commentator will "comment" and give insight. A lot of the times the caster will ask a question to the commentator, mainly for the spectators and not for themselves. Most casters are far more knowledgeable than they led on to be. They ask questions even if they know the answer, because the viewer may not.

Wow that's a really good description of what actually goes on too. Tasteless is always the one filling people in on 'noob' stuff and asking questions ie "Now what do you think about x build against y build" etc. Very interesting. Thanks for answering my question so well lol.

I hate people sometimes.

God, I visit so many other Starcraft forums irregularly, and it's filled with shit like

"This game is too hard. They should make an auto build worker thing that the game does for you, since you're going to be building workers constantly anyways. I mean, I dont see why you should do it yourself if that's the case."

Yeah

Some of this shit is so unbelievably stupid I dont even know what to say, does Blizzard listen to these retards? I mean, shit. What I already said is nothing compared to the crap like

"You should never go Creep Tumor first as Zerg."
"You should wait until your third or fourth queen before ever putting down Creep Tumors"
"Never FE as Zerg"
"Protoss is underpowered"

I mean, that's just paraphrasing too. They have entire essays on this shit that's just all flat out BS.

Gah.

I hate my life.

Hey guys, didn't want to start a new thread, but think there may be some interest in this, and i wanted to help promote my friend's livestream.

my friend (RoboTeddy) is playing qxc in a CSL match (game 4: http://www.cstarleague.com/league/matches/239)
this could be of interest to people, the 'regular joe' vs IdrA showmatch drew quite a bit of interest.

This is only one game tho, it's a TvT between 2.4k masters and qxc.

Where: http://livestream.com/vromrig (commentated stream)
When: ~4PM EST, (1PM PST) <- start time for game 1

sorry, technical difficulties keep the stream from going up..

seems like qxc game went first instead of 4th as scheduled..

Hello, as a relatively new member, i would like to know whether or not there has been an updated version of a fast banshee opening for tvt..?

Similar to gretorps build way back in september, has there ever been much evolution..?

Quick question:

In the seventh set between oGsTOP and ZeNEXByun for the Code A championship at the 7:55 mark TOP's banshee is harassing Byun's mineral line. Three Byun vikings fire volleys at the banshee, which is in turret vision range but not attack range. Just as the shots are fired TOP pulls the banshee away. The attacks all land per the graphics but the banshee, presumably now outside the turret vision range, takes no damage.

Is this a bug, or is that the intended function? I thought I'd ask in this thread, as I couldn't find the answer, but I suspect it is known. Thanks!

On a Korean keyboard, ww is gg. When they type "ww" what they really mean is "ㅈㅈ", which is the equivalent of gg.

Hey guys, I'm a noobie and still in Silver league but I really want to improve. I recently played this game and I really don't know what I did wrong. So, if you have the time and the will, could you watch the replay and tell me what you think?

Here's the download link: [url blocked]
I'm the Blue Protoss by the name Terr
Some minor issues I'm aware of:
- My build order isn't very tight
- I could try to harass my opponent more
- Sometimes I get supply blocked because I always forget to watch my supply

I'm mostly looking for really big mistakes but can't find any. Your help would be really appreciated!

I asked in the previous thread but did not get an answer yet so reposting - Does anyone know what the SC2 intro music is called (if it has a name that is)? For example, you can hear the music here+ Show Spoiler +
and here + Show Spoiler +
(fun stuff - there's a reaver around 2:10 minutes into the video). Does anyone know the name of that music?

I have not seen the games - but did TOP cloak/decloak the banshee?

I'm not sure exactly how it works, but I'm pretty sure that if you cloak or decloak (not sure which one - might be both) just before a projectile hits you, you take no damage from it.

Someone correct me if I've got it wrong, but I'm pretty sure that's the gist of it.

The banshee itself remained cloaked, but I think it left Byun's revealed area, so for him it went from visible to not visible. Maybe that's why it happened. Seems buggy though..

I didn't know there was a difference. Very nice. What are the people called who really just talk about random stuff that gameishly related? (Points to self)

Indeed, and it's quite frustrating when it happens to me, since I personally never go banshees in TvT but have to deal with them all the time T_T.

Hey no problem, I'm watching the game as I type this and I'll write down what I see as a leak.

- First off vs terran you should build closer to your nexus since you don't need to wall off, you waste time going back and forth between nexus and where you built that pylon. If you went up vs zerg you would wall off by putting the pylon a bit closer to your ramp so that you can create a strong wall with your gateway and cybernetics core to prevent baneling busts.

- You should keep your probe in their base longer and try and scout if he were going to go 2 racks or 3 racks. If he did this he would have to postpone it until your probe is dead.

- No reason to chrono boost out a zealot vs terran. you should save it for warpgate research or use it on probes. Infact it's better to just wait until your cybernetics is done to warp in a stalker.

- I bolded your build order statement, you shouldn't be getting supply blocked early game and you should be building cybernetics as soon as gateway finishes, researching warpgate right away, etc.

- You should chrono boost out an observer as soon as robotics finishes, sometimes i even get 2 if i scout that its going to be a late push or something.

- You should get your sentry out way earlier because if he did a quick marine marauder push you wouldn't be able to hold it without one.

- You need to keep your money low, you have poor resource management. If needed build additional structures if your macro slips. Work on macro, if your going to early expand, don't do it because you see him doing it, you can push and win or you should have had a pregame plan to expand before him.

- You took a 3rd before you even had your 2nd fully saturated and in effect you had a smaller army than him, you should expand to your natural as you push out, if your expanding in your front you should be confident in your army, and whenever you are, you shouldnt be keeping your army in your base.

- Too many immortals

- Try building 2 forges when your on 2/3 bases and get upgrades out quicker.

- Spread storm out more and use forcefields.

- Spread out high templars more. You shouldnt group them all up or else their susceptible to EMP. You should put them in the back then 1 by 1 bring them out to do a couple of storms.

- Don't worry about harassment yet, you don't look like you have the APM for it. Try and just get standard play down before you move on to the harder stuff.
