High tier poker coaches charge in excess of $500/hr and even the mid-tier quality coaches charge $75-125. Coaching from elite level players is a niche market. It targets a very specific type of player in a very specific point in their gaming careers. It is NOT for the general population to get better. In order to get anything out of a coaching session with IdrA you would need to already be very good. You would need to have no major faults in your play but instead you might be having trouble with a specific match up or need advice on how to better execute a build. This is something that would be an excellent use of time with an elite player. You're basically paying to pick their brain on something that only they would know, or something that could expedite your learning process significantly (high level tips and tricks). Any run of the mill Computer Programmer can bill $50/hr. Heck, many high school kids charge that once they build up a decent skill set. Poker coaches can charge more because professional poker is a well-established game with huge amounts of money in it, even at a local level. Even the more minor tournaments have GSL sums of cash on the line. Similarly, programmers can charge a lot because the end result of finished websites/software is a profit. If I hire a web developer to make my business' site, I'll earn it back and then a lot more. Very few people make good money off SC and none of them are actively coached by other players.

"but i dont think i can win but i know you all are better, maybe.. but i know he will pwn me but .. Q: Putting aside the issue of the skill-ceiling being higher in SC1, are there any SC1 players that you see having fairly-instant success if they were to switch to SC2? Good luck nayebo! If anything make sure you have fun ![]()

I wouldn't go so far as to calling a silver/bronze level player a Joe (as was mentioned earlier in the thread). The fun of pros v joes is that you could at least try to root for a Joe and at least get some entertainment and put up some fight. A silver/bronze player would be immediately crushed. A 2500+ Diamond would probably put up a good fight against idra. IMO early pressure. proxy 2rax all-in with bunkers I think you underestimate the skill difference..... putting up a good fight =/= winning When was the last time you saw a legit Gold level player put up a decent fight against a mid Diamond player? Because that's probably a good representation of the skill gap between 2500 and IdrA..... It might actually be more severe than that..... I really dont think thats a good comparison. A gold level player is probably stuck in the gold division because of his/her lack of fundamentals. They wont do a good job scouting, they'll not keep up with marco, or their cheesey tactics stop working at higher levels. A 2500+ diamond player has enough games under their belt (probably) to have a decent game sense, have a decent build order, and a good response to certain compositions. I dont understand why you feel so uneasy at the fact that a progamer may not just completely face-roll another person who plays the game a lot. If look at their win/loss records, they actually have losses on the ladder. A lot of subtle things that 2500 pt Diamonds do wrong are definitely fundimentals for higher level play..... Just like decent macro and micro is a fundimental for being 2500 pts..... It's the same freaking thing..... Granted, it'll be less likely that a 2500 pt player will outright die in 7 minutes, however, that does not mean the game is any less one-sided.....

Killykill: How much time do you think it will take Starcraft 2 to reach the balance level of Brood War, if ever? Volcanis: How confident are you in the next GSL? Do you think you will be among the top 2 in your group with oGsEnsnare, CheckPrime.WE and Jinro in your bracket? Which player in your group do you expect the most challenge from and how are you preparing against this match up? Lesphoques: How would you rate HuK's protoss and overall game sense? Does he have a decent chance of having a run similar to Jinro's? Le BucheRON: What is your opinion on the current state of game balance, both racial balance as well as map balance? What changes do you think are necessary to the current map pool to improve balance? Should major tournaments start using their own maps? Herofighter: how many hours do you practice a day? mr_tolkien: Who do you think was the WORST player qualified to the GSL to this day? masshysteria: If it was up to you to decide the 4 foreigners that will be recommended for the second GSL code-A tournament, who would you choose (if any)? And any particular reason(s) why? dircamonopole: What sort of additions and changes would you like to see in the future expansions? masshysteria: Putting aside the issue of the skill-ceiling being higher in SC1, are there any SC1 players that you see having fairly-instant success if they were to switch to SC2?

Do you actually focus practice against those cheeses you always lose to? How much higher would your win percentage be if you stayed in games that you quit and could have won? Do you have any special techniques for microing certain units or large battle positioning? Watching your baneling micro really helped me.
