vVv MurDeR the serial killer!
Ben Cardwell, known as vVv MurDeR to the StarCraft community, is 19 years old and has lived in Indianapolis, Indiana his entire life. He attends college at IUPUI, majoring in English and Business although being a freshman he has not yet declared any concrete field of study. He also competes at sports; he has won state championships in both basketball and tennis. He is taking 15 credit hours this semester while working as a tutor in the writing center at IUPUI and of course he still finds time to play StarCraft 2.
He picked up his alias in a middle school history class when he was learning about Hitler and the idea of mass murder. Originally known as MassMurDeR, he shortened it when he began competing in WarCraft3 and StarCraft 2.

vVv MurDeR and his girlfriend
We had a chance to sit down with him and ask him a few questions before he departed.
Q: Who is your favorite role model?
A: One of his favorite role models is Roger Federer for his amazing talent and finesse as a player. “He's certainly a role model of mine. He is the best, and that’s where I hope to be.
Q: What drives you to play?
A: I crave competition, so my inspiration is the challenge that comes with trying to be the best at something. Being the best at anything, no matter what it is, is a huge achievement. That's my goal.
Q: How do you achieve balance between real-life obligations (i.e. school) and StarCraft 2?
A: I think a lot of the players out there are able to play all day everyday like a few of my competitors at the IEM, but are just not as skilled as some of the other talent that have other obligations in real life.
One of MurDeR’s biggest achievements to date is qualifying for this IEM, and he is itching to attend and compete. He’ll be competing in group 1, playing against the group favorites: Huk and Drewbie.

Q: Which players do you predict to advance?
A: I will advance with Huk and in the group 2 Fenix will advance with Kiwikaki. In the predictions in the IEM qualifier tournament, my name was not even mentioned as having a chance to get through. I want (more than anything) to prove once again that the underdog always has a chance, and I will fight like there's no tomorrow!
Q: Who do you feel is your biggest threat going into the IEM?
A: I do not think there's a ‘biggest threat’, but I think the most important match to win for me is vs. Drewbie. I feel he is my most important match to win as I believe it is between me and him to advance alongside Huk. Suggy is a force to be reckoned with, but I have had good results against him, so I am somewhat confident. But as with any high-stakes tournament, anyone can win.
Q: Will anyone else from the vVv StarCraft 2 team be traveling with you?
A: I am actually traveling with my girlfriend, who is (when I'm not playing too much) a big fan of mine and supporter. I’ll also be traveling with the vVv StarCraft 2 Division Manager vVv Roar.
Q: Do you have any final thoughts or shout-outs you would like to add?
A: I'd just like to shout out to all of vVv Gaming, all of my fans and supporters, friends and family. The StarCraft 2 community is what makes all of this possible and I hope it continues to grow so we can enjoy more big tournaments, and more importantly, great games.
vVv MurDeR will have his work cut out for him as he challenges some of the best StarCraft 2 players in the competitive scene. The vVv Community will be rooting for him and we look forward to seeing him kick butt at the event!
Good luck, vVv MurDer!
