What is "a few losses"? Concerning permanent race switching: you are correct. Those few losses dont matter that much. But if I just want to play 2-3 games with my offrace I have to lose 4-5 games until I get an appropiate opponent? That's like 1hour each time I want to switch.
And if I switch back to my mainrace I have to wait until I have "a few wins" until I get an opponent of my skilllevel again.
According to your argument, every time I want to play my offrace I need to waste 1 hour of my time to get to the appropiate level and another hour to climb back up. Seems a stupid time waste - and for alot of people those 2 hours is the whole time they play each day (or even the time they play in 2-3 days)

Doesn't work for me. I have no problem keeping my money low when playing Protoss because I actually know what to do, but switching over to zerg my money skyrockets and I have no clue what to do with it. Spine crawlers? It's a totally different mechanic with each race.

Yeah, this is a good idea

It works just fine. I don't care if I have 20-60 with Terran or whatsoever and 100-10 with Zerg People would mainly just look your main race stats anyway for your "skill"
But what comes for separate ladders for each race, I don't like it :/ It may cost your ladder ranking, but whatever.. :&
So. Stats for each race should be separated, nothing else Then you get abusers who purposely go 0-100 games with their worst race, to lower their rating, and go 100-0 with their best race bashing newbs. Its fine how it is, if you want to learn a new race, thats what the 8 hour timecard things are for, otherwise just suck it up and play. I played 30 terran solo games, then 10 random, then now 50+ toss.. who cares.
You can do it now too? If I play Zerg for main for example and pick Protoss which I can't play and lose 100 games? what's the difference? How do separate stats (now its games/won instead of win/lose for each race) matter in losing abusively? There is no impact at all in race stats compared to current system (My suggestion is just more detailed..) There would still be total 1v1 stats just like in Wc3.

You are by no means a good player yet you hit diamond with Terran and want to try a new race?
This is what you just said. Something is wrong with that statement. If you aren't a good player perhaps you shouldn't even be in diamond to begin with. I'm really getting sick and tired of people bringing this up and division chat completely. I really hope Blizzard removes divisions and stick to a global ladder. Lots of the casuals already left ladder. It's time for a reality check.

It's not his fault bnet put him into diamond league, lot's of people in diamond still aren't that great... And whether you are a 1500 rated player or 500 rated it doesn't matter as far as wanting to try out your far inferior off race.
There is nothing wrong with his statement. Additionally, when you say "lots of the casuals already left the ladder" that would mean getting into diamond would become more difficult, not less.

That's what we got 2v2, 3v3 and 4v4 for.. testing the other races. Since you can solo-join 2v2 etc. you don't even need friends.

I think it's a brilliant idea to separate your statistics for each race. Including random.
|
Yes, definitely. I would be much more inclined to try out T and Z if I could start 'anew' with them and learn things from the Bronze level up.
|
I've suggested this before on the battle.net forums and people immediately started flaming the idea for no real reason. : / This should be fairly simple to implement and would make 1v1 much more enjoyable for many people. Offrace 1v1 ladder would be an excellent way to blow off some steam and do some casual / stressless games vs competitive opponents.
|
Is it really that big of a change to try a different race? I usually just pick whatever race I feel like playing at the moment, or else go random. I feel like the general important macro/micro parts of SC are pretty similar across all races, and it's just changing your strategy/build order a little that changes (But you should be familiar with other races' strategies/build orders anyways).
I think better W/L tracking for races would be realistic and a nice addition, but I do not believe there is a chance of there being separate rankings for each of your races because it is outside of the philosophy of Bnet 2.0 and a rather ugly mechanic.

Your skill level as X race is not going to be the same as Y race, ergo you should get a different ranking. Not sure how anyone could actually argue against this being implemented. I think bliz just wants to keep it simpler.
Guys, it's really not a big deal. Your ranking and points don't say anything about who you are as a person. Or a player. You just have to take the hit when you switch races and over a short period of time you'll get better with that race and be back to where you were.
|
Having basic game sense, and knowledge of basic builds of the other races will easily put you in league with players in diamond. Study, learn before you just dive head on into a new race, if you are really afraid of being so behind.

it'd be nice if you could at least see how many wins you have with each race to tell when you're getting new icons and stuff >.> annoys me

Obviously I think it's terrible, but yeah.
As for other people replying by saying that you should just play anyways, my problem with that is a) as you said it sucks to play an off race on diamond level, but also b) if you want to play in most tournaments you need to have a diamond level account.
I doubt it. Wouldn't Blizzard have in a place a mechanic for checking if a player logs in multiple times on multiple occasions and proceeds to ban that account? Besides, people who have friends who play the same game, tend to want to play at the same time. It would be way more work to organise a play schedule just to share an account. The additional effort would be much more costly than buying the game outright. People who go to this much trouble to save a few dollars are really not that concerned with their ladder ranking and so it makes no difference if they have 3 accounts or the one.
I think the main reason Blizzard has this set up is to mask any balance problems. If everyone could have separate ladders for the separate races, it would be much more telling if a particular race is "difficult" to play.
