Yeah it is annoying. I wouldn't mind playing a different race but I don't want to play people miles better than me for ages until I get up to the level of my Zerg.

Agreed with op, there's no way I can offrace on my ladder without losing every single game. Customs suck for practicing offraces T.T

They should really do this imo

Poll: New qualifying rounds per new race?Yes, you should do new 5 qualifying rounds per new race (80) 93% No, it should stay the way it is (5) 6% I don't care (1) 1% 86 total votes Your vote: New qualifying rounds per new race? I def think this should be implemented. I constantly switch between races and i feel that is the only reason that im not a higher ranking
|
I would love if u could get different ratings for different races. Would give u a huge desire to try new things.
|
4 divisions for the 4 different race options simple as that
|
Yea the OPs idea would be really nice.
|
We need separate stats for each race.

I think you should be able to have ~3 "accs" bound to your profile. I mean the qualifying rounds and general ladder layout works decent enough so you cant really smurf. I have no idea why blizzard didnt implement this in the first place. Or well they dont even have cross realm play >_<

It would be great to get to play the off-races, at pretty much every level of play. Alot of new people seem to go terran because of the single player, and then stick with only because they're used to that race, and the learning curve for multiplayer being significantly steeper (and if you have just learn't one whole race for the single player, your less inclined to start over). Adding off-races allows them to move into different races without it being so punishing.

I think this is the reason why blizzard doesn't want to implement it.
Blizzard should just limit the number of accounts to 3 or 4, that should solve that pretty easily.
|
it's set up this way because blizz wants one game per person. If each race had it's own rating, people would work out agreements to share an account with each person playing a different race. Like brothers or roommates or something like that. I'm 100% certain that is why it's not implemented this way.
Obviously I think it's terrible, but yeah.
As for other people replying by saying that you should just play anyways, my problem with that is a) as you said it sucks to play an off race on diamond level, but also b) if you want to play in most tournaments you need to have a diamond level account.

welcome and much needed change. i think it's stupid i have to tank all the hard work i put climbing a ladder just to learn a new race that i may not stick with. either seperate the ladder or give a bonus pool for offraces.
|
solution to the problem:
1. get a pracc partner 2. pracc with him 3. ??? 4. start playing league matches with that race once you feel comfortable with them.
i myself don't care about rating since all it does is put me in games against people of equal skill. played a bunch o terran games and it went fine as long as i knew what to do
|
Unless you're diamond in every other bracked (2v2, 3v3, 4v4) you could do some of those while you're getting your feet under you. That's what I did when I switched from T to Z.
On a side note, if you do pick Z, you get the sweet Infested Colonist portrait when you win 25 games.
|
I recall this issue being brought up in Beta with a "we'll look into it" response. Obviously, they didn't do anything about it.
It does suck having to completely tank your rating to offrace, though. Whenever you decide to go back to your main race you'll have to play 20+ games just to get back to your appropriate rating where you're facing a reasonable challenge.
|
Would be nice, but seems doubtful at this point. There are several ways you can work around this though.
1.) Use a "Guest Pass" - if after 8 hours of laddering with an off-race you aren't either bored of it or low diamond quality, I don't know what to tell you.
2.) Find a practice partner - Can play tons of games, just find someone of appropriate skill level. You won't lose any ladder ranking, and once you're confident you can go back to your ladder account.
3.) Find a friend who bought the game, but stopped playing - I personally do this, he played the campaign and hasn't logged on since. Make his bnet account your "Off-race ladder account".

I switched from protoss to terran, lost a ton of games, lost my over 50 percent winning record, and was demoted to platinum. But who cares? I've been working my way back up, and now I can say I'm as good as terran as I am at protoss (at least I think).
Really, over worrying about your record and what league your in means you care too much what other people think of you. I'm just trying to improve my game and the matchmaking system does a pretty good job at matching me to people of the same skill level.
