I don't think you read the post closely enough. 'this kind of elitism does not work'? He's warning the waves of new SC2 players not to listen to the thousands of mid level diamond players claiming to know everything there is. There's alot of bad information and he's simply telling the truth about how alot of these all-in diamond players havent truly explored the game.

Instead, I was met with match after match of six-pool zerglings, fast reapers, and four-gate pushers who, after their tactics failed, simply did not know how to deal with the mid-game. Really? Really, guys? I'm sad to admit that most Diamond players I've gone up against are one-hit wonders. Platinum opponents are still the most fun to play.

Actually I'm not old school at all. Also, there's no reason you should believe me if you really don't want to. I'm sorry you feel that I'm "elitist" in any way. I'm not saying lower level players' opinions shouldn't matter, because you can get very valuable insight from them as well. But if you still feel that I'm wrong in saying whenever a good player is talking about the game, he is more likely right than the bad player contradicting him, then I really don't know what to tell you...

also, just because some people do 4 gate all in or BBS or 8 pool, doesnt mean that there aren't other people out there who do know a lot about the game. however, chances are your more right. pro league will be good for this.

They're in diamond because it works. 1 base all-ins are actually legitimately strong in many cases. Hell, even SC2 pros use 1-base plays quite often, just watch the IEM. I'd say at least a third of nonmirror matchups involved a 1-base play from one player in the IEM. Well.. maybe like in a year or two, it could change, but who knows.

I'm just not used to handling these kinds of strats because I haven't played enough, but the players who are doing them to me are often 700, 800 point diamond players. It seems backwards to me (I like to think I could do a 4gate all-in every time and win a ton of games too), and makes me very hesitant to place any value on the point system at all.

Low diamond (~300): D- Mid diamond (~600): D High diamond (~900): D+ through C Top diamond (~1200): B will become more like this: Low diamond (~600): D- Mid diamond (~900): D High diamond (~1200): D+ through C Top diamond (~1500): B it seems. I noticed that this point inflation happens a lot. I was inactive for a week, I come back, and win most of my games at my previous point value, and jump up like litereally 200 points, and this is after a week or 2 of inactivity. I really hope Blizz comes up with a legit ranking system that can be universal. On the other points you made, I completely agree. My ZvP was terrible, and then I learned how to defend 4 gate pushes, and all of the sudden most Ps at my level are super easy.

Silver: I know how to select units and make them attack. Gold: I have a general idea on how to play an rts game. Platinum (not stuck-in-platinum-because-stupid-system-won't-promote-me but actual platinum): I have a loosely followed build order. Diamond: Anything above that. You underestimate how hard to learn the sc games are. I know sc2 is waaaay easier to learn. Still. I have a friend who played the dow games and cnc fairly good. By no means he was a pro, but he did well. He seriously had to learn from scratch. Stuff that is like 'common' knowledge. Like never stopping to build scvs, to constantly macro hard. He even got a BO and stuff from watching Trumps channel. Still he his on bronze level. (though he is not playing enough to really improve.)

You provide evidence on why some players aren't credible, and you conclude with they're probably wrong since the majority of them are honestly poor players with iffy mechanics.

I don't wan't to be rude, but maybe you should pick up a reading comprehension class or additional english class at your school. Or stop trolling if that's what you were doing. Another possibility is that you didn't even read the post, which said nothing even close to get that kind of reply, as a matter of fact it's the complete opposite, and I agree with it indeed.

No, he clearly states that a high ranked player will in 99% cases be right if he contradicts the mid diamond player and that the credentials "I'm in diamond" doesn't really mean much. He even mentioned that lower level players can have valuable insight in the OP.
