1)It was a problem with the internet of the venue. Something they couldn't have seen beforehand. 2)The crew worked almost whole 72 hours without sleep to correc the situation - they tried their best.
What else is there to say? Even when the stream was up there was a lot left to be desired. How about keeping observers in key games so if unexpected downtime on the mainstage happens they can hop in and cast that, then when it is over they can go into the main stage game. It wasn't just the venue infrastructure, MLG said that they were unprepared for the traffic on Friday and it crashed and then proceded to destroy their servers. But when Day9 and Wheat are sitting their talking about playing tekken or whatever for 40 minutes when the stream is up there are obviously many improvements that could be made, this was glossed over and not even mentioned.

Nobody wants them to berate MLG for the entire 2 hour show, but it is pretty disappointing to hear JP brush aside the fact that, from a spectator standpoint, MLG Dallas was an unmitigated disaster. Yeah, sounds like Sundance tried hard to make it work. What are we supposed to say? Better luck next time? It's at obvious moments like this when it needs to be reiterated that the four people on this show right now are not an accurate cross-section of your average TL.net and SC2 enthusiast, so you can't expect to get an opinion that approaches the consensus. I wouldn't say they are bringing sense to the masses of rage, it's more like they are predictably skirting the issue because it isn't interesting to them. I'm typing this as I'm listening to the guys on the show revel in a discussion on their favorite moments from this past weekend. Too bad nobody saw it happen. I'm glad their opinion isn't the consensus. The consensus on TL.net as of recent has been very disappointing sometimes. MLG needs constructive feedback. There are a lot of things they can definitely improve on. However, there are tons of posts saying that MLG should drop SC2 and never host SC2 again. Those are the type of people nobody needs to hear from, and I'd be very embarrassed if anyone on SotG said that. Even if there was no stream, they're still paying pro players and providing replays at the very least. They tried to make it work. They apologized greatly. They refunded everything or gave free vouchers for future (purchaser's choice). They're trying to get all the replays out and the VODs out as fast as possible. They're changing the people working on their SC2 team to new people so it won't happen again (hopefully). I think that's all they can do at this point. If it happens again at Columbus even after all this has happened and changed, I think their reaction will be a bit different. And your point trying to sensationalize "too bad nobody saw it happen" - most of the stories happened in points that would never be on air anyway. Only the IdrA-TLO matches out of the stories were something we would have seen. Idra vs Huk with halu was casted from reps with casters knowing outcome and most people paying attention on tl twitter. Also why would it be bad if MLG dropped SC2? they put on a HORRIBLE show, don't understate that. Most everyone who tried to watch it or heard about watching it was disappointing/upset. Someone running a terrible event vs no event, I'd rather have the no event and let TSL/NASL take over. MLG isn't pushing the quality higher or getting new fans to SC2 with events like this. If anything they are cashing in on the great community by husky/hd/teamliquid/screddit etc. It would be horrible if MLG dropped SC2. They're giving out quite a bit of prize money, and their tournaments last year generally went over well. There are flaws, but overall, if you can't see the gain for esports when the tournaments do work, then you're blind. Quite a bit of prize money 70 dollar entrance fee 200 entrants 14,000 dollars provided by entrants Plus HQ buyers They don't pay any of their own money to the prize pool. I'd personally be exuberant if MLG dropped SC2. Other game titles like capcom fighters refused MLG for very good reasons.
... that's completely false.
The money you listed barely covers the yearly salary of two people in their tech department. You can't just go A + B = Fish with random money numbers. Most of the prize money for MLG is paid for by sponsors.

They have people in their tech department? I thought they just hired of bunch of people to play halo at mlg office with sundance.
Either way compare to cost of entry of similar tournaments.
