Grats to iNcontroL he played well and did pretty good at taking advantage of his situation. I don't get the iNcontroL hate what is he supposed to do? Bow out of the tournament because he has a easier seed? Because he qualified for top16 and he doesn't feel that advantage is fair? c'mon...
Anyway, I do think the MLG system is fucking terrible and the top16 have way too big of an advantage. More HALO bullshit team marketing trying to be forced on SC2 when it just doesn't apply in the same manner.
the top 5 halo teams just won't lose to the 30th-50th ranked Halo teams. However, a top 5 SC2 player can very easily be knocked off by a 25-50 guy.

I would love to hear the Pillars' opinion on Naniwa's run from the point of view that many pros have said that SC 2 is an inconsistent game and very volatile. As well as PvP matchup being a coinflip. Regardless of all this, Naniwa went 24-0 before the finals and 26-2 after the finals while having more than one protoss opponent on his way through the bracket, pool play and championship bracket.
If PvP really would be as coinflip as the popular opinion lets us to believe, it would stand to reason to expect more losses for Naniwa during his run. What would be the main factors to his dominating success in this MLG, abusive build orders ? cheeses ? gosu micro management or what ? We spectators didn't get to see many of his games so maybe you guys know.

There's a reason good protoss players like MC who understand the matchup have 85% win in it. Agreed, i's not a coin-flip, it just looks that way to the lay observer because one tiny micro mistake can snowball into a loss. It's by far the most unforgiving match-up there is. The reason MC wins so much is because his control is actually probably top three in the world. and he understands PvP more deeply than most other players.

I'd really like to see how Naniwa would perform against Mc, or even San. Tsl3 might provide us with a Naniwa Vs Mc final after all.

Exactly, no mistakes are allowed, that's why it's so extremely skill dependent, it has nothing to do with luck at all. It's protosses own fault if they have a negative attitude towards the matchup and don't try to understand it. I'd love to see any player who thinks its a coinflip try to take a single game off a player like MC or naniwa out of 10 games.
I don't think its a coinflip either, but a lot of pros reference it as such or rock-paper-scissors. PvP was discussed quite much in a past SotG, but I was more intrested in the factors in Naniwas play that made him do so good. We only saw 2 matchups of his play streamed, from which I could not deduce the factor that made him dominate so hard. Would be nice to hear if the pillars had chance to watch him play more and comment on that.

I'd really hate to sound like I'm advertising, because I'm not, but I just wrote an analysis of Kiwikaki vs. Naniwa. All six games. It even has a link in there to where you can download the replays and watch them yourself. It's in the strategy forum, somewhere, if you want to see it.
Aside from that, I'd also like to hear their thoughts on the level of play throughout the tournament. I think it was pretty damn high, but I've seen criticisms from others that some people just played badly. It would be interesting to hear the thoughts of two (maybe three, depending on the guest) of the players in the tournament, plus two of the casters.

One stupid question, show that is live now is not SotG right? If not, is there topic for this show on TLnet (to get more info etc)?
|
No, the show that's live now is SCcenter

MLG really just does not have their streaming and scheduling together. I can understand that sc2 is somewhat new for them but their streaming problems and scheduling so people can see the good matches has been quite poor since they first picked up wow arenas. Honestly it may be the biggest money tournament in the us right now but it's production value if you are on stream has been the worst of any major tournament, and it is not like this is new. I have been foolishly buying hd passes since 2008 for their tournaments hoping they will fix these problems and yet they have them every event almost without fail. I appreciate the enthusiasm but I highly doubt I will bother tuning into their tournaments anymore with so many other major leagues popping up.
TL:DR These are not new problems for mlg they have had them every tournament they have run for at least 3 years now.

So excited for the show tonight! I really wanna hear Geoff's perspectives and experiences at MLG last weekend

no web cam again today guys sorry. I live with Russ and his family wants privacy from the internet (obviously understandable) so they aren't really for a webcam of any sort in the house during this show. I tried to organize getting to the office to do it from there but it didn't work out. There will be a webcam with my ugly mug on it asap but not today.

I do recall when Huk and Tyler were on the podcast after an MLG Huk mentioned the game between them two and Tyler said something like "well, did we play games or did we flip a coin?"

Cannot wait for SotG tonight, going to be awesome. I hope you have IdrA on the show as he always has interesting things to talk about and is so great at discussing the game in general.

I think the whole webcam aspect of the show now is a little odd anyway (JP doesn't really use the visual format to show anything substantial, and looking at faces staring through webcams for 2 hours is a little akward), so no harm, no foul. Looking forward to it.
As an aside though..........if JP could use the format to show a replay you're discussing or more useful visual aides that would be pretty nice, but that would definetely require some legwork.

Uh, who is on SotG tonight?
Is it somewhere around in the thread, or hasn't it been announced?
