If the original top 16 from last season all came back, he would've had to wade through the open bracket. I seriously doubt he would've gotten 4th from there. Nothing against him because he played according to the MLG system. But I hate MLG's system. He played well when it mattered, it all comes down to this. He played well against terrible players, fared OK and cheesed a lot against out-of-form good players (TLO) and lose in a convincing fashion (at least, he convinced me he was bad) against good players (Select, Kiwikaki).
Yeah he lost to Kiwi and SeleCT. But doesnt it make sense that the 4th place player, Incontrol, would lose to #2 and #3? (Kiwi, select)... lol

also, that "out of form" player, TLO knocked Idra out, and ended up 5th.

JP actually has a unique view on this compared to the other people on SotG, he worked for MLG during the WoW era and knows how many of the problems they had then (never starting even close to on time, lots of dead air, teams able to hear announcers and each other, low stream quality and network issues) have gone unfixed for what is now years. When you walk on the edge of disaster for long enough eventually you are going to fall off.

Teams could hear announcers in WoW?
I don't recall any drama about that O_o

I don't recall any drama about that O_o WoW is such a clusterfuck to follow from a spectators point of veiw it probably didn't matter as whatever the casters were saying probably had little bearing on how the game was actually going.

Why is it every time anything of note happens people rush to this thread and demand SotG reflects their opinions back at them?

When you walk on the edge of disaster for long enough eventually you are going to fall off. And the same shit has been going on with Halo since the league inception in 04, and they still don't do anything. I'm hoping this latest catastrophe, worse than pretty much anything else that's happened to them, will get them to shape up.

if mlg can come out guns blazing at their next event, problem free, e-sports should get a massive bump over here.
Dallas was looking to be the biggest thing ever in NA and it was pretty big, but the problems were rough.
Even GSL was advertising MLG
edit: people should still support MLG and all tournaments, as if the tournaments are watched and supported then things can only get bigger.

HE CAN ONLY CHEESE BLABLA!!!!.
Sry, i agree with you :p. 4th place is a verygood spot . cheerded for him and idra to take it tho. The only thing i hate incontrol for is that he not played vs his temate EG.Machine. I love that match :D :p
Again sorry for the capslock but i just dont understand why people complain al the time about players doing well :s (or complaining @ everything for that matter xD). Geoff mayby all-ined more than he wanted to, but 1baseiwa didnt get his nick for nothing lol. But what should they care? there up there, and All-in, 4gate, cannonrush shit is all part of the game. If you like it or not ^^. And huk rushes and does cooky shit al the time and people do love him. I think there just jaloes @ Anna.
That said. When is anna gonna join MLG?

If you mean that why people are asking about it when it's obvious they will touch on it then I agree, it's silly. If you mean that why people are asking and why should they talk about then, seriously?
Whole show is about discussing about happenings in SC2 scene so the question would be, why wouldn't they talk about it.

InControl lost to the 2nd and 3rd places and beat the 5th place player twice. In your opinions where does that place him? 7th? 20th? No, 4th.
|
Incontrol could go 3-4 against MC and people would still bitch
|
I don't mind Incontrol, he did ok and win good players. Not sure it should be rewarded 4th place but he played the system MLG had and got 4th. Nothing wrong with that and congrats to him.
I just don't like the MLG system in general. Incontrol did ok but some players like Gretorp (which I think is a good player) didn't manage that well and went something like 1-8? I'm sorry if incorrect. But just because he was seeded he got top16 and thus again going to be seeded. That means if he continues to do poorly but still kinda hanging out there, he will be placed high everytime.
It's too hard to fall down from a seed, so new players like naniwa has to do miracles to get higher place than some of the seeds. Seeds are good but there is too big of a advantage to players who have played in previous MLG's.

Would love to hear from Day9 and JP about what it was like to cast filler for like 5 hours on Days 1 and 2.
It would also be interesting to hear about what they thought about the tournament itself, (while not going too in depth on the extended series)

Would like to hear some more discussion about extended series. If the games were played without extended series TLO would have beaten InControl 2-0 when they met for the second time and Kiwikaki would have beaten Naniwa 2-1 when they met for the second time. TLO would have had a top 4 finish and Kiwikaki would have won the tournament. Wasn't Geoff against extended series?

Forgot about the special rules for the final match. This is how things would have played out according to the MLG website if you don't take into account past match history (no extended series):
5. If the Players scheduled to play each other in the Finals have not yet played against each other in the Event, an initial Match must be played. If the Player who came from the Championship Bracket Winners Bracket wins the initial Match, they will win the Event. If the Player who came from the Championship Bracket Losers Bracket wins the initial Match, the Match will expand to a Best of 7, include the initial Match, and pick up where that Match left off.
Kiwikaki would have won the first match 2-1, so it would have been extended to a B07. Kiwikaki would have needed to win 2 games, and Naniwa would have needed to win 3 games.

Nobody should fault inControl for getting fourth the way he did. He had no choice about how it went down but made the most of the opportunity presented to him and that was more then most of the pool play players. Same thing with his games against TLO. He used every advantage he had to get the win. The blame should not rest with him but TLO in that case. I think it's pretty ballsy to do "cheese" like that off a blind meta-game read and deciding to go through with it and executing it so well despite being broadcast on the main stage. He didn't give in to the pressure but followed through with a gutsy game plan where he put it all on the line and came out the victor. That's the trait of a winner and guess what, he's a winner.
