Would they from now on be technically doing something "illegal"? Unless Blizzard or Kespa have been to courts regarding the intellectual property I think it will be uncertain if its illegal or not.

Super daniellmannnnnnnnn and taste-yo boi-less!!!!!!! wat it dooo. im so excited

Would prefer Starcraft 2 to be on OGN and MBC tbh.
GOM doesn't feel as polished.

Would they from now on be technically doing something "illegal"? yes but they will likely negotiate a deal through GOM to OGN/MBC
Kespa will probably be muscled into Blizzard's will. Or Samsung will start bribing politicians. Which is probably more likely.
|
Wait, what? Does this mean Brood War will be stopped for MBC and OGN?
|
Well I've heard some people say Gom and OGN are owned by CJ, so that means SC2 might end up being on OGN and probably have an OSL assuming it gets large enough?

Definitely seems to put somewhat of a damper on the SC2 scene that hasn't even happened yet. Ugh, Blizzard just can't run eSports.

you all make it sound like pro teams just gonna disappear.. you make it sound like kespa actually owns anything, its those media, telecommunication and other giants like intel and so on, who really owns the team, licensed or not under kespa, do you think they will care
Nothing stops them from recreating, if they cant move, you guys make it sound like those commentators gonna disappear ( which 90% of you cant understand.. anyway ) they will get jobs at gom and so on, gom had 1 tourney, and you make it sound like it was terrible, ofcs when you compare it to 5 leagues.. what stops gom from making leagues and tourneys and all other stuff.. noone..
change isnt a bad thing.. maybe you guys should grow up.. or half of you gonna have nightmares once you move out to live on your own..
i personally welcome this.. gom tourney was awesome to watch

wouldn't even need to wait for the court decision, will kespa even survive an injunction so they cant broadcast till the court decides ? could be years

Hm.
Going around KeSPA and leaving nearly the entire community behind? Bad. GOM Korean commentary? Bad. Possible payment for viewing? Bad.
I really can't see what good could possibly come of this. Blizzard is throwing their weight around, but unlike with the previous GOM leagues I don't think KeSPA is going to even have to kill this themselves. All it really does it hurt the esports community, honestly. There's simply no need for this.

I honestly don't think this will come anywhere near close to this, but if it happens I'm right there with you. This move just proves Blizzard truly doesn't care about esports and is just interested in 'getting what's theirs'.

It's practically MSL/OSL/Proleague death sentence, giving exclusive rights to GOM Kespa killed it by not agreeing to the deal, so GOM hopped in and took advantage of it. Kespa's handling of the match fixing also will contribute to any decline of the Starleagues/proleagues
Man this kind of self-righteous 'kespa sucks' attitude is really getting to be a pandemic around here lately. Do you even have the slightest grasp of what you're talking about? How exactly is Kespa mishandling the match fixing? What should they be doing that's so much better? -.-

Is this the work Tastless said he had in the works in his last interview with Artosis ?
Would explain his confidence and secrecy.

Kespa mishandled the match fixing because they very obviously knew about the gambling sites, hell, they had tried to cut a deal with them to keep them from gambling on SC games.
And they needed to drop the death penalty on more than just Savior and Luxury, just like Kim Carrier said.

I feel like the SC2 scene is going to turn out to be more like War3 than SC1. It's going to be less organized and the scale is going to be smaller, in Korea, anyway. alls i care about is that the commentators take the f'ing HP bars off during casts PLZ PLZ do not leave them on, use ALT when needed. lol

Unless Kespa can somehow prove that Starcraft is a sport thats rules exist in public, and not the creation of Blizzard (aka not likely), copyright laws back Blizzard.
You can't copyright football. You can copyright Starcraft.
Kespa wanted to play hardball with Blizzard, but they really didn't have any negotiating leverage. Should have taken the deal.

I have a feeling that KeSPA will eat them alive. At least for BW.
|
Look, I didn't like the "terms" Blizzard suggested for KeSPA: this news just suggests that GOM (which already managed to continue existence solely with Blizzard support and even that wasn't enough) accepted those terms, which were basically "total control by Blizzard", in the hope that SC2 will succeed like BW did.
This is entirely in line with what we've been seeing lately: no LAN, no friend replays, no channels, multi-part release, etc. etc. I am down to about 10% faith in Blizzard. Decisions are clearly being made for money and control reasons. IDK whether WoW success went to their heads, or whether to blame Activision, or what, but this much is clear: Blizzard is no longer making the 110% effort to cater to the fanbase that has characterized them for the last ten years and beyond.

No they won't KeSPA's got shit on Blizzard. BW is Blizzard's game so they can just not allow KeSPA to broadcast it.

I love how quickly Kespa goes from the villain banning celebrations and giving players losses for typing "ppp" to some sort of fallen hero just because BIG BAD BLIZZARD is pushing them around.
Did we forget all the crazy bullshit Kespa pulled during the years? Do you really think Kespa, a marketing organization made of some of the biggest, most powerful companies in Korea (and in Samsung's case, the world), gives a shit about the "integrity of esports" any more than what affects the bottom line?
