I'm behind Blizzard on this. The last thing any company should do is bend over for Kespa - though it seems to be what quite a few hyper-active posters want.

I dont think i would be making any sense when i say this but the way these things go on, would that also mean that if I use an intel brand computer on a televised or lets say Windows XP OS, i should be paying the companies that made them?

Hardware problems (monitor and power outage, anyone?) are enough to piss fans off for a while. Frequent disconnects will turn fans off forever.

omg..... i didnt think of it like that.
remember how raged we were over the power disconnect?
first time it ever happened.
how many times do we get d/c from bnet? or our own internet stops working for a while (ISP providers or whatever)

blizzard doesnt give a shit about esports as long as their in a position of power.
if KESPA pulls out of it all together, all the progaming teams are fucked.
im sure stars like jaedong, flash etc will make it out, but 90% of the gamers will just be cast along the road.
KESPA doesn't make money on sponsoring the teams, it is an investment to get their name across.
OGN/MBC makes money on advertisements
why the hell would any company in korea (the biggest ones are part of KESPA) go ahead and invest in sc2 when they just saw the most successful e-sport industry just crash into the ground?

Really? Broodwar crashed into the ground? Really it did?

And even if it did they would invest in sc2 for the same reason they invested in bw. If there is enough people watching it. Supply and demand. Either sc2 just won't draw the crowd in which case it won't become a big e-sport and the companies won't invest, or it will draw a large spectator crowd and companies will jump on investing. It all comes down to the game, the players and the fans. Corporations will always be standing by to fuel it with money if they think they can get more cash out on the other side.

Did you know HOW LONG before the MSL got their sponsor after that power equipment failure?

yeah .. thats the difference.

and even with great connection of B.net2, it is still BOUND to fuck up.

That is a very weak analogy. You could view SC as a "tool" for creating interesting "dramas". In which case, as long as the license permits, you are allowed to use the tool to create a product for commercial purposes. However, I'd wager that Blizzard's EULA does not permit the user to use SC for commercial purposes. If I developed an application (even for free), I would be really pissed if someone else used it for profit without my permission.

well i was just asking and i also tried it to compare to basketball, etc. where players who are good with the "game", not a tool, to advertise companies via commercials.

But basketball isn't copyrighted. Any player can get paid for sponsorship. I think it is more the league's responsibility to secure a licensing agreement with the copyright holder.

Anyways, I think it is perfectly reasonable for the creator of anything (software, art, tool, etc) to explicitly forbid commercial use of their creation. Of course, they can reach a separate license agreement.

i perfectly understand what you mean .. i am only saying that i don't see it like that .. i see SC as moar than just a tool, its a platform for performers and athletes to excel in.

but the way things now, its all about money and to me, this move wont help blizzard gain more. i, for one, has decided NOT to buy SC2. and for years i was definitely planning on buying it but now they just lost a customer .. they just couldn't have made a WIN WIN scenario with kespa .. greedy faggots ..

p.s. im not a kespa fan btw.. fuck kespa too

Choosing between Blizzard and KESPA has really become a contest of the lesser evil, unfortunately. Blizzard's making some really terrible decisions for eSports in their BNET 2.0 interface, and I can't help but wonder how much of it is targeted at KESPA (and perhaps to a lesser extent, ICCUP).

Except Kespa has invested millions of dollars in Esports while Blizzard has yet to sponsor and provide salaries for a pro-gaming house.

Congratulations, e-Sports. You survived all those little bumps that you went on, survived the winds that tried to topple you, survived a match rigging scandal that rival's MLB's steroid use. All that, to fall to a blizzard.

Who the fuck is blizzard to offer a grace period. What is with this retarded, arrogant attitude that makes them pretend SC is good because "they designed it that way"? No, SC is good because of sheer, dumb luck, not because of your retarded balance team. Intellectual property? more like sheer unadulterated arrogance.

gg.

Diablo II? WoW? Warcraft III? damn bro, chill and think about these games. Wildly popular, successful, etc. These games are good because Blizzard knows how to make good games. e-Sports is not going to crumble because of 'arrogant' Blizzard. They're doing the smart thing, and signing off the broadcasting rights to companies that know their shit. Wait and see, you'll find the other side is just as nice.

Yeah how many of those 3 games have successful eSports leagues.

Oh. Wait.

Blizzard does not give a fuck about eSports. They care about milking. All of you are nothing but numbers and $$$$ to Blizzard. If you need any evidence, just look at battle.net 2.0

You're absolutely nothing to the mega corporations that make up KESPA and run it like idiots either, dumb fuck. I mean a lot more to Blizzard as someone who buys their products and talks about them with my friends, and they've given me a hell of a lot more.

At least Blizzard does something valuable, KESPA is a typical middle man organization.

Just idiocy. I mean how many games have eSports leagues period? Only Blizzard's. And Warcraft 3 is one of the biggest competitive games in the world, your personal irrelevant tastes aside.

http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=127674

blizzard has given KESPA until augest to stop broadcasting all SCBW games without paying them a fee for the right to use their own intellectual property

the solution for KESPA is simple

KESPA has until augest to hire a team of programmers to program a new videogame called "super star chess"

in this computer game "super star chess" it is exactly like starcraft one in terms of how much health, damage, and movement speed, and production costs and micro mechanics and build times units and buildings have.

so "super star chess" will be exactly like "starcraft brood war" in every way but to avoid problems with intellectual property rights, in super star chess minerals are called bluecryss and vespene gas is called zelium gas.

also, every unit and building in "super star chess" is called by a different name than what it is called in starcraft brood war, and also there are different graphic models used for each unit to avoid problems with IP rights

so KESPA, you better hurry up and get on the ball. blizzard may be able to claim ownership over starcraft brood war, but they cant claim ownership over a totally different game with different graphics and unit names. blizzard cant claim ownership over the stats and health and costs they give to units in a RTS virtual real-time chess like boardgame. thats all starcraft broodwar is.

starcraft broodwar is nothing more than a real-time chess-like virtual boardgame. if KESPA created their own real-time virtual boardgame with the exact same unit stats as starcraft brood war but calls it something else, then kespa will be able to broadcast freely without having to pay blizzard a god damn penny

plz kespa, hurry!

...

For the following three years, we tried very hard to have negotiations where we could correct a skewed situation and reach mutual understanding.

...

So where the fuck have you been in the other 7 years, Blizzard?

This just means Gom- TV is now Blizzards B**tCh since Kespa wouldn't be their B**tCh.

All in all, Blizzards just wants the money and become a huge corporation...
