CJ owns OGN as well so its obvious they're going to continue broadcasting and MBC probably will also negotiate a good deal for both parties.
This is just their way of becoming the one giving the permission to do shit rather than kespa being the guys doing that.
Oh yes and butterflies will fly over green gras and everyone is happy and yay. All i see is one stupid ass unprofessional entity being replaced by another. Give me a break.
So instead of forming something new that ties the teams, the players and the broadcasters together to create the most stable enviroment we see Blizzard, a company that only started to give two fucks about the scene because they had something new on the way they wanted to promote, has given GOM-TV a streaming company / tournament hoster that, like everybody else is all about ratings, EXCLUSIVE rights to everything.
Is anybody fucking home?
did you even read Morhaime's letter? They tried and tried and tried and tried and tried and tried and tried and tried and tried and tried and tried and tried and tried and tried and tried and tried and tried and tried and tried and tried and tried and tried and tried and tried and tried and tried and tried and tried and tried to negotiate with KeSPA who for some reason couldn't get over some stupid notion that they had a right to snub Blizzard for enforcing basic copyright laws.
Honestly, pulling Brood War and then giving all rights to the company KeSPA INTENTIONALLY snubbed a few years ago is just poetic justice.
Not only this, I find it frustrating that people are saying that it's going to be worse than with KeSPA running it. KeSPA is HORRIBLE for the esports scene. Yea, back in the day they were instrumental in setting it up, but nowadays they are just letting it stagnate and they don't help the non-Korean scene in ANY way (hell, they actually discourage it).
If there's one thing I can expect from the internet: it's overreactions. Good to see I wasn't let down. People identifying so much with companies (both) reminds me of rapid apple fanboys talking about how awesome their products are and how much cooler they are for their choice. I know how everybody loves to get the first word in about things they have relatively little information on, but for once I'd love to see people take a calm approach to something with a, "Let's see what happens." approach.

you'll never see that because the people who take that approach tend to have no motive to post letting everyone know that that's their approach =O
the only people with enough motive to post expressing their opinions on the matter are those who feel strongly one way or another
unless they feel strongly that everyone should be calm about it but in that case they aren't really taking a "let's see what happens" attitude because they are intervening to convince others that they too should take a neutral stance, an argument for neutrality still becomes boggled down in the very same type argument is strove to avoid
bleh this post didn't sound as dumb in my head lol

There are no SC pros that don't have a Kespa license, for good reason. Are you even aware of how you get a SC pro license?

And according to Blizzard, the reason they don't have LAN in SC2 is to "always connect the community together through Bnet2.0," and obviously has nothing to do with piracy! And according to KeSPA, they talked less than a handful of times. It's all bullshit PR speak. There were even rumours that Blizzard wanted the rights to the players. No one here knows what happened during their negotiations.

If KeSPA agreed to be dominated by Blizzard, Blizzard would've said "Okay, no more BW. Just put SC2 on TV"
KeSPA did the best for the BW fans, which apparently are a minority in TL nowadays.
I still have hopes of everyone laughing at Blizzard in Korea and getting the BW leagues in 2011

Oh yeah im sure OGN and MBC just had no programming time in their schedule to run both Brood War and SC2 that's just rediculous
I would really like to see a poll of how many people that are actually playing SC2 actually care if BW stays around or not...
Yeah, I watched Flash vs. Effort because... well.... it was a hyped up Flash vs. Effort... and I do watch the occasional PL but do I as much as I used too? not in the slightest and I am sure viewershipt will continue to decline

I am and I was talking about potential SC2 pros. It's a common misconception on these boards that you can't be a professional player unless you're a kespa licenced "progamer", which was somewhat true for BW but not anymore.

As an EffOrt fan I went apeshit for the OSL finals. >_>
Oh you just wait and see how your precious little Blizzard-GOM-TV combo is handling the pro scene as soon as GOM realises that their competitors overpower them in probably every department and then decide to just either keep the biggest slice of the pie to themselves or up the broadcasting fees continually. Let me guess who handles the licensing for pro gamers from now on and who gets to broadcast them for free? GOM is able to overlook everything including player transfers? Will they support a Team when they loose their sponsor? How about special events? What about small local sc2 tourneys? How much will it cost to run them? Who decides what Team get's to play and for what reason? What if they dont like the sponsor because it just so happens to clash with their business? Oh and who's going to broadcast proleague?
So one big bag of cash for OGN to pay. One big bag of cash for MBC to pay. and GOM, oh right....
On May 28 2010 03:46 infinity2k9 wrote: Can you imagine a western company ever owning a pro videogame team? It'll never happen. Its so sad it took so long to get where it is today with sponsors to now possibly be thrown away.
Yeah, but the corporations don't necessarily "own" the teams either.
Western corporations sponsor a whole bunch of stuff, from NASCAR drivers to NHL teams, NBA teams, etc.
If the demand to watch professional sports is there, then companies will want to advertise their product.

Blizzard demanded the right to choose what they should do.
You think it's profitable for Blizzard to keep showing BW? They want BW to be replaced by SC2. They want the scene to be an advertisement for their new game.
I wonder what difference it's going to make for the B-teamers that play SC all day and don't get any money or recognition. If Blizzard or Kespa run things it won't make any difference for the Starcraft players as far as money and future career goes. Pro gamers are past their prime once they pass 22. It would be great if they had a decent university option at this point so that they don't resort to playing well into their twenties.
Also - I thought Kespa couldn't be touched? Wasn't that the whole point of the "negotiations"? Korea has a liberal IP law that gives Kespa right to host their games and Blizzard can't do a thing about it. Blizzard is acting strange giving vague threats of ending the SC1 scene. Not the best thing to do for the fans. . . I'm gonna watch how this rolls out. Probably gonna skip SC2 all together
