Does anyone know if this caused the ladder to reset? Thanks.

I just downloaded Patch 12 and loaded up a quick game vs AI in order to see the new Thor size. I defiantly think that it looks much more... plausible. I definitely like the smaller size and cant wait to get on later (Finals ) to see how much easier they are to maneuver around during battles.

Shouldn't Zerg end the game, to avoid going up to 200/200 anyways? I don't think the Roach has been nerfed too hard.

The 2 supply for the roach was needed to be honest. This makes 1 gas roach mass rushing less difficulty to fend off, they also don't own as bad anymore once massed 200 full supply.

thx blizzard for ruining my 14th probe fast exp strat just for to stop noobs to complain about cannon rushes...
zergs were sooo imbalanced in late game. mass roaches some hydras and infestors were like unbeatable. it makes sense but i would wait for ultralisk buff like everyone in this site.
seems like terran is the best race right now.

Wow, new Thor model looks great, I really like it. It looks slimmer too, not just smaller but i'm sure thats just the scale-down. We'll have to see how the roach nerf turns out in play, if it doesn't drastically break everything and causes zergs to substitute away from mass roach i'll be thrilled. Even as a terran player I'd love to see something equally harsh imposed on marauders though. Seems like a small patch overall, hopefully this means theyre taking extra time to test out the new overseer and infestor abilities (and ultra changes :D). I do hope they take a look at the SS Micro Project thread though, that's seriously a piece of work

Im still hoping for VR nerf.... I mean does things rock marines with some micro and destroy viking very easy... As a T i just don't have anything to counter them, i can micro mi vikings but if VR are charged im screw... And plz don't say BC or Thor cause VR rapes them so hard.

Roaches got hit pretty bad... zergs now will need more Ovis at the start well i guess now 1 overlord kill will matter much more.

I like the thor reduction, hope he can move better now

The thor change is really nice. They've needed a size reduction for a while now. I'm surprised to see so many people upset over the change, since when people complained about the thor the size was the #1 issue.

Imo tihs will likely change zvz quite a bit, making mass roaches (1 base or 2) a lot less viable >.>

yeah, roaches definetly pwned everything around , including ridiculous void rays or banshees. 200/200 roach limit was unstopable. Unless you made force fields and colosi xDDDD

The 2 sup change to roach seems big but it doesn't seem to change as much as I thought. Does mess up the timings a little, but an extra ovie doesnt make much of a difference other than tweaking the timing of attacks.

I also believe this is a transitional patch leading up to a much larger patch in the near future. They were already talking about changing the Ultra etc. not long ago.

I presume they wanted to get out the 'crash on exit' bug fixed asap. So they've put out a patch to fix it and only included in the patch things theyve definatly decided on changing.

I think this patch balances zerg a bit better, it might lead to people trying out broodlord/ultra late game instead of pure roach/hydra/infestor. We should remember that on the Korean servers zerg has an insane win rate, and blizzard shouldn't balance the game so that zerg players on EU and US have better win ratios if on Korean servers 70% of games are won by zerg.

so lets nerf Z until the korean zerg players who are more skilled than protoss terran players can only win 50%....wait no...

Actually, as far as I know, if you get cannon rushed and the forge is already up the rush is more or less succesful.

1 to 2 food is huge man, Z was able to mass roaches so fast because of the 1 supply cost. It meant less overlords which saves time and money for a huge mass of roaches. Now with 2 food to build 8 roaches instead of costing 8 food its 16 food which means more supply caps and more overlords which will slow down the roaches production significantly in this new patch.

dont understand where some of these posts about diversity are coming from at all

many players fell back on just massing roach as their staple unit, usually using hydra to back them up. roach/hydra was what some players did in every matchup vs any unit comps..with adding some infestors/broods usually.

this change should promote the use of not only other units but some other tactics/strategy employed as well

they just need to add the ultra changes and melee vs forcefield changes imo

While I think this is what they were thinking (they want to promote diverse strats), I hope that this is just the first stage.

Fact of the matter is, most games are Roach/Hydra because there are no other viable options. Good players will mix in a few infestors, and late late late game might finish with brood lords, but when you dig right down to it, the only viable lineup is Roach/Hydra. Why is that? Because SCBW -> SC2, most units gained power. Almost everything is stronger than its SCBW counterpart, and the only ones that aren't are Zerg units. Zerglings are worse than SCBW (far less damage output), Ultralisks are far worse than SCBW (enormous, can't get into battle, and with the armored debuff they are not the meatshields they used to be). Banelings are good, but very situational.... and that's it. That's the entire Zerg ground lineup. The Hydra is the only one that gained power from SCBW to SC2, and obviously the Roach is a new unit. These two are the only ones that can stand up to the enhanced power that the Terran and Protoss units boast.

It is for that reason that the Zerg mainstay is Roach/Hydra, now with some infestors. Zerglings are only seen for early harass and pre-roach defense. Ultralisks are never seen unless the Zerg doesn't like winning.

All that said, I do believe that the Roach was too powerful for its cost, but as someone above pointed out, I'd much rather see it retain the low cost, and be shuffled into a specialized role focused around its burrow abilities. To replace it as the meatshield, Zerglings baseline should be slightly buffed, though care must be taken to avoid overpowering all-in early rushes. The Adrenal Glands upgrade should be massively buffed, to bring back the late-game viability of lings, and the Ultralisk should be fixed to regain the role of late-game tank. Hopefully this is the direction Blizzard is going, and they are just taking baby steps.

Roach nerf. It really only affects late game zerg, if you understand this then you probably aren't complaining in the first place. Good zerg players will still do well in ladder, bad zerg players will still do bad.

I have said it a few times in this thread, and Blizzard has said it before. They are going to further improve the Ultralisk, be patient.
