It's just a state of the game joke where people already started to talk "...or someone else will"

You've been talking about GSL-like subscription services and of course it would be hard to create another high prestige tournament like that, especially with all those other major tournaments going on. In Korea all code S players are squeezed onto a dime, while the western players are spread out over continents..getting that density of high class players commit to a league for weeks, when they still have to make a living, probably won't work. But..
What if..a big cable company had a big ass e-sports channel in one of its sports packs. You don't give a ♥♥♥♥ about football, but now you can watch all your favorite games 24/7 in HD and everything on your TV. Don't tell me you wouldn't buy that..its ON ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ TV!!!11
But here is another idea, that probably would make everyone wet their pants..
SCSN, the Starcraft E-Sports Network, a company that would send high class commentators (supported by professional observers) to the major tournament of the week and covers it with high production value in HD with non stop action. Inevitable breaks (that come up if they can't find a new game coming up) would be filled with interviews, live casted replays or coverage of other stuff going on at the event (music acts, crowd reactions, silly contests (you know where sponsors have vistors fighting in games or other stuff like impersonations^^)). You would have breaking news popping up on the stream with important things/results that happened in other important games that are played at the same time.
It wouldn't be limited to those events. You would get daily news, interviews, in depth analysis of certain games or ultra HQ remakes of the most awesome games (where they don't just cast a game but put 2-3 days of production into it to cover all the action in the most awesome way), documentations like "how is a day at a pro house in korea" or "traveling with a pro to a event and covering the weekend from his perspective" (although that would suck if he gets eliminated first round xD maybe team focused instead), behind the scences stuff at blizzHQ or companies that make gaming hardware. And you would combine all that with a full blown VOD system (like GOM), tournament result database and everything.
Can you imagine how awesome that shit would be? Even if it wasn't just SC2 and covers other games too. People are always complaining that the production value of certain tournaments sucks and that they don't cover the "stories of the players" enough to give them a face, emotion and drama. While organisators complain that they can't afford to move all that technology cross country and don't even have the experience to do proper coverage, because they only do it once or twice per year. This is exactly the stuff that we need and guess what? Tournaments would be all over that shit, because they want their event to be covered in that quality and they want to have their sponsors commercials air on that stream, pictures of their company name behind the commentators and both tournaments&sponsors would probably pay big time for that value&huge crowd they would get. Not to mention that everyone would buy a subscription for that even if it doesn't include GSL, because they can suck it.^^
Maybe the world isn't ready for that..yet, since it needs a lot of work, money and dedication to get it started to the point where it gets so accepted that it's sustainable..but damn how awesome would it be? ^^

Was that first caller saying that he watches illicit GSL vods? What a dumbass scumbag.

I think the first caller was kennegit and he said that he watches the free stream. The first call and their reaction to it was really funny :-)

will there be a show today?
|
I guess there will not be a new Weapon of Choice for some time.
Just noticed: http://twitter.com/#!/djWHEAT/status/39334804201676800
Coverage continues but the shows at djWHEAT.tv will be taking a much needed re-org break... - http://bit.ly/eeojLZ
Full post: http://www.djwheat.tv/2011/02/20/announcement-shows-on-hiatus/ + Show Spoiler + I stand before you today with an announcement that will likely result in some disappointment. I hope that after reading this in full, you’ll have a better understanding for why this decision is being made… and what it ultimately means for the future of the shows at djWHEAT.tv.
Many of you are aware that over the past few months we’ve been desperately trying to put together a team in an effort to take some of the burden off my shoulders and help the shows move forward with consistency and efficiency. This has proven to be a very difficult task that is next to impossible without a major time sink from those involved. As a result, we haven’t made the advancements we wanted to make because the show’s upkeep on a week to week basis prevents any additional free time to achieve our goals.
Because of this, we are making the decision to put the shows on hiatus while we spend some much needed time gearing up for the next step in this growing project. While many of you are likely feeling the disappointment I mentioned earlier, I want everyone to know this is not by all means the end of these programs. We spend so much time working on the day to day and show to show details, that we often neglect the most important thing… MACRO. Everyone who’s involved with programming at djWHEAT.tv wants these shows to live for a very long time, but without a solid plan for the future, things can quickly go sour. In an effort to ensure and stabilize the future of these programs, this much needed hiatus will be put into effect.
As of today, all regularly scheduled programs (Weapon of Choice, Live On Three, Kings of Tin, Epileptic Gaming) will be put on hiatus. The only exceptions to this will be the obligations we have agreed to prior to this date. This includes the TLOpen/TSL Casting, and some ESEA coverage, etc. The station will not be “dark” during this time, but shows will not air.
I’ll also take this opportunity to say the following… Thanks. These shows wouldn’t have been on air for the past 2 years if it wasn’t for the amazing community and audience who tunes in from week to week to enjoy them. Our goal is to continue to deliver some of the best available pro-gaming, eSports, and gaming related content the web has to offer… and we plan to use this hiatus to elevate these shows to the next level.
We’ll be keeping everyone up to date via the webpage and twitter (@djWHEAT). I promise you that this hiatus will be worth it and although I hate “NOT DOING SHOWS”, I’m very excited about things to come.
If you have any questions, comments, concerns… please feel free to hit us up at djWHEAT @ djWHEAT.tv!
BIG THINGS TO COME IN 2011 RT
I am certainly disappointed that there will not be WoC during this very eventful time for SC2, but I can certainly understand that it is difficult to find time for serious restructurings without actually having less daily activity.
Hope to see you back in full swing in not too long Wheat, you are making great content and it is missed.

i <3 u wheat, im so sad.. weapon of choice was my reason to be alive on sundays
|
This pretty much opens up my Sundays into the foreseeable future.

Incontrol and the NASL are stealing DjWheat for their projects

In my experience things that go on hiatus don't really come back but maybe I've just had some bad experiences. I wonder how long the hiatus is, are we talking two weeks to a month or six months to a year? Annoyingly vague
I guess I can't complain I wasn't really paying for the show or anything. It's just sad to see it end when everything is just about to kick off. I really do hope you Marcus come back even stronger
Edit: Too tired to write

From talking to him, it sounds like the 1-2 month range.

Really sad news, before I read this I was just thinking about kicking back and watching some WoC live today.
Hopefully you can get things sorted out Wheat.
