I'm not shure if it's the issue here but some people including me are running SC2B at very high gamma (especially with low graphic setting) and that makes everything loose contrast and be bland.

Weather it's the drivers or monitor's issue i don't know, but for me Beta is way to dark (even on streams or pics) to be played at standard gamma brightness. (at first before ajusting my monitor/ graphic setting i had to set gamma almost to max, and it wasn't preatty).

That's why i like this mod, but i agree original is nice too, just bad at high gamma.

While these do look good and this is some great effort, there is more than likely a reason Blizzard didn't go for the darker version. As others have stated, it's quite a bit worse on darker maps, and that would be silly to have units harder to spot on certain maps....

Seriously, you have that much time on your hands?
Blizzard has done an outstanding job with the whole entire game.. we don't need nuts like you going in and adjusting the brightness contrast.

As far as I can see, the Protoss were always marked by bright gold (heck, bright yellow in the original game) so I think this makes them look less like Protoss. Also, the Zealots look like robots on the closeup screenshot, somehow.

For the Drak Templar units, it looks okay on the brighter maps, but pretty poor on Metalopolis. They also make me think of Terran units, for some reason... maybe that's just me.

I would definitely oppose Blizzard making this standard, but hey, as long as some people like it, good for them, and good for you for providing something that some people will see as an improvement. It's not like it harms me in any way.
I bear this sig to commemorate the loss of the team icon that commemorated Oversky's 2008-2009 Proleague Round 1 performance.

Can someone find out if there is a way to add these textures into the SC2 mod folders like what was done with the SC1 sounds from the other thread? This seems like a process that would apply to textures, too, and doesn't need to be done necessarily through an mpq editor, since I think that is how Blizzard will enforce proper modding over b.net.

Could you post more screenshots of armies before and after? The one thing that really worries me about SC2 is how hard it is to watch the game with units clumping so much and good players splitting their forces to avoid AoE may not be enough...

There's a big difference between the base color/texture on units and the parts that tell you the color. I think the complaint isn't that units aren't colorful enough per se, but that the colors aren't as distinguishable from the textures they rest on and the colors on other players' units. Not that this mod helps the color issue, I just don't see it as related.
