I promise the day after tomorrow I will sit down and work on this, with hopefully a fairly easy way to make all the necessary changes to get the sounds working. I've a final tomorrow night and a bunch of work to do still till then

humm although i'd love this again, i consider this to be a bit of a sisyphos situation:
there's been new sounds in almost every build now.

build15434 came with 170mb in the sounds directory alone, despite lots of them being placeholders (what's a protoss strike fighter....?) or not even truly updated ones, i think they override any older files, no?
rock is fine.. paper could need a buff, but scissors have to be nerfed

yep a ton of new sounds and many of them i dont even like. my one complaint of sc2 that i'm really really surprised blizzard let happen is how awful the sound effects are. not the voices, many voice actors did a nice job (like for terran), but zerg 'voices' are all sound effects as well and are terrible along with ridiculous explosions/roaring of air units moving/etc

i really miss the variety of sounds protoss had in sc1. to me they seriously all sound the same, and i can't stand the advisor for terran, it's so terrible, this is why i have sc2 muted when i play and i just play my own music. anyway, thank you for doing what you are doing, seriously i can unmute sc2 and have manly sounds again

I have already been using these sound changes by using the MPQ editor to add them to a patch. I also took the liberty of changing my zerg announcer to the old school terran one.

beep beep, not enough minerals :D

yep. apparently Blizzard is not willing to neither remove the crashing problem nor fix/change the sound effects themselves. At least, it's not a priority

google for mpq editor. you need to find and open the right mpq/sc2asset/sc2data file which contains the sound and music files (i don't remember which one). extract them to get the folder structure and replace them with your own sounds.

if you want to add sounds you can, by finding the right xml file in the mpq file which lists the sounds and adding your own entries. i've done this before by removing all sc2 music entries and adding all the 9 sc1 gameplay tracks.

but i havent done it with newer patches so it might be locked down by blizz, if op's posts are anything to go by.

they have added a corrupt checker, I cannot use custom sounds anymore, just wanted to bump this to see if anyone had an ideas on getting around the checker. Hotkey editing seems to be unnoticed
