To be honest that was my least favorite part of the daily. Day9 kind of freaked out at the mass queen usage being successful and kind of stepped away from actually analyzing it. All of the players Catz faced could have dealt with the queens if they had the micro Catz had. Granted they were facing something they weren't used to and didn't know what to do, but there are plenty of things that can easily shut down mass queen play, which I'm sure even Catz saw in some of his games.
Thats not to take away from the power of making a lot of queens, especially early. The part where he showed it holding off 4 gates among other things was very good, it showed how early on a lot of queens can start giving you a strong defense to drone up and also spread creep.
It just didn't feel like he did as much as he could in analyzing it. He showed all the ups and none of the downs. He really didn't give players a strategy, he showed them games of something working and told them it was "imbalanced" (Which I hope was just him poking fun at the show again, even though I kind of enjoy the purpose of that show)
It was a great funday monday, I enjoyed the fun games and its really interesting to see what queens can do, but I think he took this a bit to far in part 2. Queens are good, but mass queens as a spam transfuse to never die really isn't as viable as he made it seem. Just take it at face value, make more queens like he said, but don't go too crazy with it.
I'm excited for the next funday monday, Contaminate is one of the things a lot of zerg players aren't using effectively. I hope that if (and when) a pro player submits replays of them using the strategy he doesn't go overboard.

Even though funday mondays may provide the occasional lesson and useful strat, it is not really about analyzing gameplay imo and shouldn't be looked as such. And are you suggesting that day9 actually think queens are imbalanced?

I'm not suggesting that no, I'm just mentioning the fact that he said it and I couldn't tell if he was still poking fun at the show. I realize that usually funday monday isn't supposed to analyze gameplay, like I said I loved the first part of the show. But then he went to part 2 and clearly said "What were kind of doing right now were we look and analyze more..." showing how part 2 is more of a regular daily just using the funday monday strat. Looking at it as such, I think he could have done a better job with it instead of just telling Zerg players that this strategy is something that master players can use and win games super easily.
Please don't misunderstand me, I don't want to make this about balance or anything, I just wanted to comment that I personally thought that he could have done a better job analyzing it, and I hope that if more and more zergs start using more queens that he can have a chance to do so.

I agree, but it's hard to make people try new strats, so I think day9 was over-enthousiastic to try and make people try this strat more. If he brought it like, "Maybe zergs should try to use more queens because it is possibly strong against this protoss strategy" almost no-one would try it.

Day9's 'Bond villain' voice sounds like Snape.

wow that was a crazy awesome episode..immediately went and tried mass queens after it ended. The biggest thing I noticed it about it was the early 5-6 queens with a few spines could hold off alot of pressure letting me get way more drones early on...
i always ended up with tons of mins... the strength of the queens strat is the increased eco boost from saving larvae and the possible transition into mass anything in the mid-game

does anyone know the song name that he played at the end of episode #255 ? It was a chill rnb beat kinda of a song with some subtle trumpets. He even sang the melody before playing it Would really appreciate it.

You don't necessarily have to go "mass queens" to do this you know. You can just get like 5-6 extra queens and utilize transfuse and they're anti-air capabilities. And I don't see anything about queens that requires you to "be master" to do it. Day9 is showing you the power of queens, a unit that personally I think people underestimate. He's going "Holy Shit Queens are good."
I got the impression that Day9 didn't think you could do that. Seriously, a zerg behind by 60 food beating a terran? That's pretty crazy.

Queens do great in ZvZ (and even there, a zergling run by will destroy you or just contain you for a long time if you block the ramp if you don't make anything else for too long) and early game for the other matchups but if you just mass them T is going to EMP you and roll you or protoss will feedback/storm your army into little bits. Since they are so slow rushing with them is pretty much pointless thus you are aiming for a long game if you make a ton of queens (at least long enough to push your creep across the map) so your opponent can easily counter you if he scouts well. When they are out of energy, queens aren't very useful even if your opponent had to sacrifice a small part of his army to tech to ghosts/HTs. Other than that, just good micro and pressure to keep their energy low can deal with them as well.
It was a fun daily but he over hyped their power a lot. Day9 made it seem like Queens were some overpowered unit and everyone in the stream was going nuts about them. Pretty silly IMO.

I'm worried about day9. It seems lately, over the last few weeks he's been drooling more than normal. I wonder if he got bit by a rabid dog or has lupis or something and just doesn't know it. At any rate, his excessive drooling seems more than usual as of late. My prayers go out to him and his family.
(On a sidenote, did day9 ever post the other replays by CatZ of him using mass queens? He mentioned that he got like, 15 of them from catz, i'd love to check out those replays!)

That is "suggesting" actually... He was clearly poking fun and that you even can think otherwise boggles my mind.
And personally I felt the second part was still in the "funday monday" theme and was meant as such. "Analyze more" doesn't mean he meant to do it like an ordinary daily only with somewhat of a more serious approach since it was a fairly high level player playing. And I can't really see where he said "master players can use and win games super easily." with it.
