Aaaaand the squeaky wheel is back, to resume complaining about lag on tonight's stream. The polls indicate the problem is getting worse - 25% of people were indicating there was lag of some kind, and I'm not exaggerating in the slightest. This is utterly ridiculous. Today's lag was especially bad - I was having spikes lasting around 30 seconds, where the video and sound would both freeze.
I understand that this is a Ustream problem and the mods/Day9 can't do much about it, but...
Is it that difficult to host a restream? I know at least 1 Day9 mod has a TL stream, why can't he take some of the burden? There are no legal problems, I quote from the Ustream TOS:
"Ustream does not claim ownership rights in your User Submissions. However, by uploading, streaming, submitting, emailing, posting, publishing or otherwise transmitting any User Submission to Ustream on the Site or to the Services, you hereby grant Ustream a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free..." blah blah.
We just need someone generous enough to restream. Please, the problem is not going away.

If you're having serious lag issues with the live stream, you can always watch it on the archives if it's that bad.

What in the world has happened to the stream? It has gone kaput. Used to be able to view it with no delay at all. Now it is unwatchable. I live near Chicago, IL. Anyone else in that area having problems?

A lot of people in every part of the world are having problems with day9's stream.

I live in the burbs of Chicago too. My ISP is SBC/AT&T.

It's not about being "generous" to restream. It steals views from Day[9] which directly and indirectly hurts his bottom line. If Sean decides to open a low-quality stream or alternate stream, then it will happen on his terms. Trying to get people to run an unauthorized restream is not something to promote.
|
I see your point. However, as far as I know (and please correct me if I'm wrong!) Ustream doesn't pay their streamers like Justin.tv does. While stealing views may hurt Sean's intangible bottom line, wouldn't it be worse to lose viewers to a laggy stream? Wouldn't it be better to have happy live fans?
Sean always pokes the archive viewers to join in the stream - I would venture to guess that he wouldn't want a laggy stream to send live viewers back to the archive.
I'm not trying to force an unauthorized stream, hence me shouting out to his mods.
Edit: Grammar.

I haven't been able to watch a daily live in ages because of the lag, im not whining, just saying how it is for me. I think they could benefit if it were streamed in a lower res imo.

I live in LA but my ISP is also SBC and I've been having problems with streaming quality as well. I thought it would be fine for Newbie Tuesday since I was watching DJWheat's Live on 3 a couple hours before the daily. I tried others streams and they worked fine. I went to bliptv and started downloading the Funday Monday episode and that worked fine. But when I tried viewing the live daily, Ustream was transferring at most 50kb/s and usually somewhere closer to 35kb/s. It was really strange and frustrating.

Yes, it's a good thing we have you around man, so we can tech up to templar to battle the opponent's mass queen usage. No wonder day9 hates the word counter. You get "information" like this which is utterly worthless in almost all circumstances. I know when I see four queens, I start to get ghosts...
By the way, Zerg has neural parasite, allowing you to waste the opponent's transfuse on your own army. You can think of these three spells (EMP, NP, Feedback) as a fun trio of caster-to-caster counters...

Dear Day[9] you gotta talk about ppls manners on your next show. I recently was having fun on a 4v4 match, in the bronze leauge of course, and I just went mass planetery fortress's. lol And of course some ppl said stuff but it wasnt untill after the game ended and I was gonna play another was when a guy from that game messaged me and said that I suck and that im a noob. Now id like to say that I see the Starcraft community as geeks and nerds and over nice ppl. Come on were all nice, ive never met a Mean geek. lol but I was just hoping That I could get this out there to you. And I love your show! Keep up with the design changes i loved the one from last nigh!

What game are you playing on the stream so often!?!? The word game where you have to retype a random set of letters to form words. I know it's on yahoo but I can't find it!!! I must know, SOMEONE HELPPPPPPPPP

Friendly reminder to go vote day9 for a shorty. This thing is closer than ever. Day[9] is in front of Adam Montoya, but by 15 votes!!!! Adam is gaining on him; i think Day[9] still needs some help Vote Here, takes 30 seconds and will help the SC2 community out immensely: http://shortyawards.com/day9tv

My prayers go out to him and his family.
(On a sidenote, did day9 ever post the other replays by CatZ of him using mass queens? He mentioned that he got like, 15 of them from catz, i'd love to check out those replays!)

I'm sure this gets asked way to much, but has he announced or hinted at the "day in the life of day9" yet?
