fyi hes vocabulary compare to the average joe is by far superior
I would categorise Day9 as a pro caster, he was a pro in BW, and is very good at SC2 still eg. he has been involved in some of the past SC2 Beta tournaments playing up there with the pro's.
I think he gets excited about minor things because thats what makes a good commentator interesting, check out some of his brothers BW casts for GOM.tv, i think their family has some sort of Gosu, baller SC gene
i meant pro caster not in the sense of esports - which the vast majority is - but a football caster or something like that.
Is still a guy that casts for his own fun and not for earning money solely , i still enjoy his vocabulary a lot although at start i didnt but i rly appreciate his comments false or not and the overall - slightly boring - style
Mass queens w/ roach feels vulnerable to flanks. Roach range is so short that if some of the zerglings just attack the queens from the rear that roaches can't reach that there would be much better results.
Or infestors could just separate the armies to make flanks/surrounds on queens easier.
I know its theorycraft but I feel this build is very cool but vulnerable.

Just want to point out that, depending on just where you live, Dr Pepper is distributed by either Coca-Cola or PepsiCo. Obviously we're dealing with a marketing genius of the highest order. I assume shortly he'll start wearing merchandise featuring the Carl's Jr/Hardee's logo with no names. Prepare to empty your wallets.

I'm glad you're not completely off and is atleast a supporter of The Thoughthammer, but you're seriously clueless.
"Pro caster" - I guess it's a definition, and surely in comparison to the rest of THIS scene he is. In more than one regard. As for his skill level it's pretty damn obvious he's an awesome player. It's enough to have just watched some of his replays to actually see that. If he had the same time to practice that alot of the other "pro" players have, then he'd be up there.
Generally I dont think you know much about his history either, considering he's been to the WCG world finals more than once (BW) - pretty fucking ace if you ask me.

I totally loved the BratOK series, that was very good analysis across the matchup board and specially in regard to Style.
Hey, excellent show. I love this style of analysis, and I certainly need the advice.
One thing I've noticed is that you don't use healthbars. I know that you find them distracting, but for replays, that's a bit less of an issue (much like the bump you do in graphics quality). The healthbars themselves are niceish, but the real bonus is the production lines. Just by looking at the production area, you can see if the player is macroing, because only buildings that are working will have a production line at all.
Because you already have excellent macro, and don't normally use healthbars outside of battle, you may not have noticed that use, but for the folks who don't have that skill level, it can be a good reminder of which buildings you forgot to include in your hotkeys or whatever. I certainly have experienced the feeling of panic when I go back to my base and see nothing being produced at a glance.

Hmmm. Let us divine.
Yea well i have no problem with the lexicon he uses, but he just keeps saying the same things every single time, to the point where it feels like brainwash <_>
I'm watching his latest uploaded daily now with QXC and that guy made the show feel so fresh because he had so many new and interesting insights, compared to day9's old and over mentioned things that everyone who watches 20% of his casts heard 100 times already.
I'm sure we wouldn't have this problem if he had more time to play the game, of course its a hard thing to do when you spend 40 hours each week for casting every single tournament out there. Which is awesome, but i feel that his daily suffers from it... to some degree.
I disagree to an extent. I know that he does repeat himself from time to time, but helps to drive his point in. When I'm training/helping a friend out in Starcraft, I don't say one thing and never mention it again. I repeat it again and again so that it sinks in. Also, for those who don't watch every daily, the fact that he repeats himself helps those who might have missed that tip in a previous cast.
So this is kind of my first post on TL, but ive been watching almost all the d9ds and absolutely love them. Now, ive done some thinking on what the above posters bring up. Day[9] has a few (actually rather plenty) ideas that he thinks are really important and brings them up in most of the analysis that he makes.
Examples: *The gameing can be divided to tactics and strategy, roughly representing micro and macro. *A game of sc is like a story, it has a beginning, a middle and an end. *When you scout in the beginning of a game you have to have a good purpose with it. *Thinking in terms of counters and hard counters often bites you in the ass (=REALLY BAD!!). *If you lose to a strong build, it is because your opponent is good at using the built in possibilities in the game and not because the game is imba or broken.
So my suggestion is that a Manifesto of the Nineth Day is written on the Liquipedia with the thoughts and ideas that the great Day[9] keeps returning to in his casting so that it can be referred to and used when discussing, instead of introducing the ideas as something new each time.

About pro casting , i dont think that egames in general have pro casters in the sense of a football pro casters whos been paying to do the job
terms of egames i havent seen that many , compare to the husky and hd which are polular as well i would say , that day9 is much more analytical while the other two have more passion and excitement imo.

Pure Comedy, BM and excitement. I don't know if you were high or drunk but you have certainly come a long way in insightfulness and maturity with your current dailies (on which I settled with)
Looking forward to your next daily as always to keep the SC2 addiction fulfilled <3
Yeah...that cast is actually the reason it took me way longer to start watching Day9 than most other people.
I was around the community when the game happened, but I didn't actually watch it (mainly because I was more into the Korean scene than the foreign/TL community scene at that time). In the aftermath, though, the forums exploded with people talking and laughing about it and quoting all of Day9's most obscene and strangest lines. Basically, the whole thing gave me the very strong impression that Day9 was just some cruddy shock commentator whose main draw was making obscene jokes and saying the f-word a lot. Which is most definitely not my thing.
As a result of this, I for the most part avoided the Day9 dailies when they came out, as well as his various other casting endeavors...I just really wasn't interested in a commentator of that type. It wasn't until the TSL2 that I was forced to actually really listen to Day9's commentary...and lo and behold, here was a mild, gregarious guy with an incredible grasp of the game, and not the self-centered, potty-mouthed kid I had imagined. I was quite shocked, to be honest.
Then, of course, I began seeking out and watching some of the Day9 Dailies...and the rest is history.
Since then, I've often wondered whether or not I'd somehow misinterpreted things concerning the Chill-Combat-ex cast, and it really was just the current mild-mannered Day9 then too. But, heh, apparently not. That video is hilarious.
In any case, I definitely like the current Day9 a lot better than the old one. Keep up the good work, Sean!

Feels to me that you have not been around for too long. I love HD and Husky, but there is no way you can even compare them to Day9 and certainly not in the passion department...
You're saying that he's not "Great at SC2" and the way you present that is just stupid, sorry. He's great at SC2, evident from watching just one replay and compare his play with any other top player today. Is he best? Obviously not, but consider his history of gaming, could he become one of the best if he had time? I'd say Easy.
Either way you feel pretty clueless all together and I think that is mostly because you're new to the scene. Maybe I'm wrong and you're just abit ignorant
On June 18 2010 20:13 Quornix wrote: One thing I've noticed is that you don't use healthbars. I know that you find them distracting
PLEASE don't use healthbars! Although it is strategic commentary, we are an audience seeking entertainment! I don't want pro SC2 games showing that stuff either. Leave something to curiosity!
Being a very easy-going guy, I will modify my suggestion (if one person posts, a hundred probably care). Please keep in mind the fact that you can use Alt to temporarily turn on healthbars, not only in combat, but when assessing the macro game at a high level. Just as with combat, it's a useful tool for a quick "at a glance" view of your stuff. And we like stuff.
Day9 has been extremely good at holding down alt to show health bars when it really matters (ex: showing queens tranfusing). I like the way he does it; they're not there to clutter up the screen when we don't need it, and they're there when they're important.

Just the fact that plenty of football pro casters that are being paid to do what they do have little to no clue what they are talking about makes you argument completely void. Being paid or not have absolutely no significance in this discussion and the fact that it's the only real reason you have brought up I seriously question your knowledge of Day9 (or lack of it).
