tempests are really really bad, if you snipe the observers protoss can't do anything with the range which is like their only strength.

I am sorry, but they do such little damage ... he had 7+ Tempests and it still took two shots each (~4 seconds?) to kill an Overlord.

Currently they are only something to make when you are saying, "I have won, leave."


They hard counter mass swarm host/brood lord.

That said I don't think they are viable against a decently balanced composition. Maybe making just 3 to harrass, but making more makes your army worthless in engagements.

building tempests to counter broodlords when already ahead... looked flashy but I think void-rays would have done the job just as well if not better (especially when the infestor count isn't that high and z is on <=4 bases)

They also have 22 range.
Deciding which units are best based on how much damage they do is awful to do in a complex game like Starcraft.

I kind of expected a series without a lot of Hots units. I think it will be awhile before the new units are "discovered" and found good roles. Blizzard always has one intention for a unit and the community finds a completely different use! Which is cool.

I take everything the is Hots with a grain of salt. Its all going to be changed many times over.

The problem is that the Tempest is not a capital ship. It's only good for poking and annoying the opponent. Does that sound like a capital ship to you? Bring back the carrier and scale down the tempest to a normal stargate unit.

Even with a significant amount of Tempests, it takes free vision and a lot of space to snipe the broods before the fight starts and the range collapses due to the low dps and low movement speed.

Edit: Also awesome whitera interview is awesome.
What does it matter how I loose it?

I don't care if they're bad, but they are really boring for us spectators. Even if they could one-shot a Hatchery it wont make them more esport friendly.

I mean, I know it is the Beta and not exact unit balance, but come on, the current state of those Tempest is just silly.

Saying they "hard counter" mass Broodlords is an even sillier statement for a couple reasons; mainly if they have enough money to mass Broodlords and you have enough Tempest to "hard counter" them, then they just remax on Roaches, and insta-win.

Again, you would have to have already won to justify making them.

Pretty much nope. They were so much costly and more build time requiring. You need something ridicolous like 6/7 chronnoboosted stargates to pump enogh Carriers to make a considerably impact on the field.

Carriers, at least in SC2, are just boring a-move game ending units (the best micro you could do with them is pulling out the weaken ones, just like the Warhound). They have a lot of beautiful sounds and lasers, but it's only that.

Tempest IMO desgin wise are just better. They are more tatical. They deal better with late game scenarios. Targete fire is really important to them. Just make 4/5 of them to snipe key unit like infestors and broodlords.

Fuck, the only cool thing about carriers are they are cool. Even in BW they were gimmick and they didn't add too much depth in the game. Stop trying to "save" a unit like that.

Worst than that are Toss players asking for the removal of the Warpgate/Sentries for more stronger gateway units. Fuck that, you just want an more a-move friendly army instead of a micro requiring one. That's ridiculous.

Tanks kill stuff by themselves. But you have to positioning/set/etc. You can increase Swarmhost efficiency setting better path to the locusts to reduce AoE.

Late/Mid game pure Warhound compositions are just bad, any moire sotisphicated gameplay using forcefields/flanks/chokepoints/position can deal with them. They just don't have a hard counter. And that's great. Hard counters are the worst shit in the game by far.
