...I wonder if they could make the core only require gateway tech and make it have to stay within a certain radius of a nexus... or something like that... Hard to say. | ||

I don't remember the numbers, but yes Mothercore is pretty weak, around what a regular gateway unit would have as hp/shields. Theorically it's not supposed to be a combat unit, but the sad and harsh truth is that it is absolutely useless to have sitting in base (energize is a good ability on paper, but it has nearly zero usefulness in practice since it's only really good to recharge oracle's energy, and oracle is rubbish; mass recall is good but even with that you don't really push in early game as protoss because you don't have any option to do it effectively without going all in. Purify is a half decent attack ability but only in desperate situations, any protoss would rather have a couple of stalkers more to help defend, rather than the mothership core). Catz build was good, but when you get a unit that spawns attacking unit for free, and is burrowed, and frankly doesn't cost as much as zergs would make you believe, it's not hard to make it work. Just remember that in game 1 Catz made that unit work after a failed six pool which should economically crush you... (granted, TT1 made a pretty blatant mistake spending money on stargate and especially on immortals, but then again, the only two things that can work against Swarm Hosts are colossi and HTs and good luck getting to that tech and a production in that situation) | ||

And as far as Protoss goes, they need to go back to the drawing board, because unless they do some huge buff, there will be no Toss players once hots launches. | ||

With medivacs are 2base allins vs T viable anymore? Swarm hosts take quite a while to get to, and even when you get them it is not a certain defense. Catz techs fairly aggressively and he barely had any in time. It is possible to bypass them with blink/recall. TT1 recalled to the natural, but if he had managed a recall to the main it would be completely different. Also I imagine colossus would fry them. Everyone agrees that P is a bit broken right now so almost any strat atm seems underwhelming, but 2base allin does definitely seem like it can work. | ||

All Round of 8 matches if I recall correctly. But yeah Blizzard dropped the ball with Protoss. The issue to deal with deathball prominence is to give a benefit for Protoss players that can split it up, not to just give units that are forced to be separate from the main army. If splitting your forces gives you better results, good players would adopt it. Considering the amount of strong, strong units the other races have, Protoss still have to deathball up just like in WoL. That said the pros may figure some more streamlined builds and openers at some stage. I'm not confident, but I'm hopeful that something will be in the works | ||

The old core looked pretty good as a kind of auxillary macro caster/structure, kind of like a weird Protoss Queen. Its abilities are nerfed to the ground at the minute, as Kim said I think because it was made to feel'more of a unit'. They had to tone its defensive cannon down because it was used in big all-ins in close air positions and the likes. | ||
