this mission is not so hard if u do what tips r saying. build only scvs and wraiths. have 4 scvs on extra key near odin but dont let them repair odin all the time. u can repair odin if there is no enemy nearby. as soon as there is enemy pull them away until he kills them. with wraiths u have to kill units odin is weak against and to deffend ur base. because enemy will attack ur base only if odin is on standby. so u should send ur wraiths to ur base as soon as thychus takes a break. the first base u have to sneak in and to kill medivacs. after that u can pull back. 2. base u have to sneak in and to kill tanks, medivacs, reaven and perhaps some marauder. build an expo there as soon as enemycc is destroyed and start to gather gas before minerals. 3. base u have to sneak in and to kill tanks and cobras and bc. 4. base u dont have to sneak in. just go in with odin and kill tanks bc and banshees. for the last base u should have a lot of wraiths. there u should kill bcs before they can use yamato! so u will lose some wraiths there or perhaps all of them. u should send all ur scvs to odin for this attack too. because if all bcs r gone odin will use nuke. so its end anyway.
and watch out for this freakin seekmissiles with 100 aedmg! just send target to other corner of map and put it on extra key to send it back later and attack reaven with rest of wraiths.

It really helps to just let the Odin destroy the buildings it buys you a lot more time.
Tech reactors vikings and banshees are great for the mission, just make sure you keep the 4 wraiths alive to snipe the ravens at the second base then go in with 2 cloaked banshees and take out tanks and other dangerous units.
You can also have 4-5 scv's on a hotkey behind the Odin to repair him for 1-2 seconds then back them off so the ai wont target them; a couple of medics don't hurt either to heal the scv's if they take damage. Really if you get banshees the mission is really really easy.
|
the mission is fairly easy on brutal if you know what you're up against.
that is, no detection in first base, 2 ravens in second base, one or two turrets in third base, and the Loki is a detector.
take those out and let your wraiths have a field day. until they run out of energy that is. wraiths can outrun HSM ezpz, they are atleast twice as fast as those things.
you can build 4 depots or any dummy buildings at the exit of the first base to block odin from moving forward if you want some extra time to build forces or take out bases. he'll kill the incoming attacking infantry waves but his ai wont make it past the depots.

my tip, one word: nuke
i guess you could call it nuke "push"
by the way, i read someone mentioned eco being bad in that game, i find it to be completely opposite
important thing is to micro your repairing SCVs, (for gods sake turn that auto repair off trust me!) don't repair when you are not suppose to (massive enemy units around).
exploit the fact that AI being all "smart" backing out from your nuke, paint your nuke, let odin get in position (break ramp) get your units into position, cancel nuke... win, if you still need more time to get into position/repair odin, paint another nuke, the time it takes to land a nuke is enough for your to cancel at the end while have 4-5 scv repair odin all the way from 0% to 100% hp

The key to this mission: don't build wraiths. Seriously, they suck. Send 4 SCVs and a science vessel to babysit the Odin, then mass vikings and support the Thor with mercenary tanks.
|
using the mass wraiths running around sniping all the tanks, I beat it my first try with that method. Its not too hard, just know that any SCVs you make heal Odin will instantly be killed in Brutal.. so only heal when theres not much of a force around him then pull back as soon as more units come. Mass wraiths is all you need though

I do agree with this, and it is important to conserve your first four wraiths for this purpose on the first few bases. However, once you get a decent-sized force behind the Odin, the tanks cease to be the problem, at which point you need vikings to take out the large amount of air you will start to see. There is never really a reason to make a wraith in this game.

mass nuke worked for me. i got spectre so their stun and spells did pretty well vs bc and ravens =)

cloak? nothing will hit your wraiths after you take out the absolutely measly lack of detection from the computer. vikings are still prey to the masses of marines, bunkers, vikings, and BCs scattered around the map.
also the AI targets your scvs first and foremost in brutal, so you need to keep repleneshing them, especially if you dont have access to vessel yet.
seriously, just massing wraiths make this mission so incredibly easy. dabbling with anything else is just wasting time and effort :p

I cheesed the hell out of this mission.. I trapped Odin inside the first base with supply depots along the western exit and went mass nuke, and pretty much nuked the whole map except the 5th base.. Lowered the supply depots and Odin just strolled to the 5th base and nuked it himself. It took a while, but it was fun
I had to save often though, since Odin randomly liked to walk over my depots and start attacking the 2nd base.

FUCK THIS MOTHERFUCKING CRAP MISSION!!
Jesus Christ after 38 + Show Spoiler + savegames and about 2 + Show Spoiler + hours and maybe 100 + Show Spoiler + reloads I + Show Spoiler + finally got this + Show Spoiler + mission on + Show Spoiler + Brutal with basically only Wraiths!
Didn't have any tech to Vikings or Banshees with Science Vessels like the Liquipedia guide recommends. Goddamnit I was about to cry imba and do a new Campaign instead of this + Show Spoiler + BS just to make it easy mode...
Anyways the sensation of acutally beating this + Show Spoiler + mission with a single Command Center tucked away in the corner with all my Wraiths and SCVs gone was incredible pleasing
My Odin survived to drop the nuke with only 236 hitpoints left

Bull, I beat this without upgrades by massing wraiths. You, sir, are a liar.
|
Beat it easily with lots of wraiths, a bunch of scv's to repair the odin, and a wall on the north-ish area of my base with a couple mercenary tanks behind it.
|
No matter what people will say I would agree with 3nickma, this mission is totally fucked up, I have exact same experience, it was much harder for me than all-in with air and no MC!!! I did it, but it was all pure luck.
eH, you probably had other upgrades OR other units lol
p.s. Liquipedia guide honestly sucks badly. They always list easiest way to beat the mission lol

Trapping the Odin is an awesome idea. Wished I thought of that instead of frantically trying to keep up with him.

holy crap this mission on brutal was such a pain in the ass.
i just beat it :/ i had like no tech- only wraiths, MM.. no viks, vessles.. etc.
took forever.. just massed wraiths, and put med marine at choke.. thank god for savepoints or i woulda killed someone with RAGE :p

Blizzard is throwing you a big tip by giving you wraiths in this level... all I did was simply mass them up, cloak, and use them to kill siege tanks, diamond backs, banshees, and battlecruisers before the Odin reaches the enemy base. Medics healing SCVs that are repairing the Odin makes it less likely for the Brutal AI to snipe your SCVs quickly. I took the expansion in this level which made it easy to pump out 3 wraiths at a time.
|
Some Brutal tips:
Do the protoss cristal missions before - will give you all the research points needed. I had already vikings, siege tanks and science vessels(research).
Blizzard hints wraiths for this missions and indeed with proper anti-detector hunting they can work. They will not be armory upgraded in this mission. As I considered siege tanks and vikings core unit types for the campagin I already had them upgraded. Unupgraded wraiths cannot hold a candle in air domination to armory upgraded vikings. Same about damage to ground compared to the siege tanks.
So :
2 siege tanks behind the starting bunkers. 2 extra missile turets. 2-3 scvs on autorep behind the tanks and 2-3 medics behind the SCVs should be all the base defence you will need for this mission. Reseach vehicle & air upgrades in // from the begining.
1-2 siege tanks in siege mode using the Odin//vikings as spotters should ensure quick ground domination. Rest should be an evergrowing viking wing. Will need quite a few vikings to down the loki and the battlecruisers at the end.
A few SCV's with medics trailing behind with the tanks should handle repairs when safe. 2-3 Science vessels would be bonus(fewer will run out of energy points). In a pinch MULES can also be used for repairs
Expand to the second base when after you conquer it..
Save often ...

There is an other easy cheese way of beating this level. Req: ghost/specters
1st block odin in first base, then send in a force you want and destroy the covert ops(its really lightly defended) in base 4. this takes out all raven from being built, then its just a matter of using any cloaked units you want.
