I'm only about 5 missions in so far but the campaign is giving me a headache seriously. Between the terrible voice acting for Dr. Hanson and the cheesy dialogue in general, I'm kinda finding it hard to keep myself motivated to slog through the campaign. Ugh, so far, compared to SC1/BW campaigns, I'm kinda disappointed.

It's absolutely dreadful. All the characters are stock archetypes, and the dialog is utterly uninspired. The dominion is a stupid caricature, Mengsk is a really ordinary evil overlord type..

Dr. Hanson seems about as human as the terran robot girl.

Raynor had good voice acting but poor lines. Same with Tosh for the most part, but his lines aren't quite as bad.

Matt Horner is pretty good. My favorite character. Tychus not bad either - I think these characters were done very well.

Voice acting / dialogue are pretty meh, maybe 5/10. But so far missions are a solid 10.

The cheesy dialogue probably stems from the nature of the storyline (which I find to be rather lacking), but I don't really fault blizzard for this. Let's think about this for a second. How exactly do we pick up the story from where we left off in scbw? Maybe someone else here can think of some concrete examples of how it can be made better, but I honestly can't think of anything too good aside from what blizzard has already done. It just seems to be a pretty difficult job overall.

I just remembered that blizcon thing (or was it something else) where they had all the voice actors talk about their work, and they made it sound so epic. o how ironic and twisted fate is...

and wasn't the voice director from Batman Beyond? frankly I find batman dialogues to be more entertaining, but heh..

I agree the doc sounds like shit. I really like Horner and Tychus. There is no doubt the VOs in the game engine cutscenes are average with some pretty shitty lines but the actual missions and story is sweet so w/e.

The dialogue is horrendous. Nothing like any previous blizzard game. Much much worse.

However, the missions are creative and fun.

Yeah, pretty much done with the game (last mission). Extremely disappointing VA. It felt like there was no emotion and the writing was awful. What the hell happened?

When the dialogue was noticeably bad, I thought it was like... sarcasm. As in, being so blatantly bad it's not so bad because you're calling attention to it. Lampshading is the tvtropes term.

They should leave that to C&C imo, SC has a really rich storyline behind it and they really aren't doing it any service by releasing Wings of Liberty like this.

Most of the voice acting is horrible compared to Brood War. Even the unit sounds are just... awful.

When I heard the new medic I just didn't believe it, then the new firebat was even worse.

Actually I liked most the special units, the firebat sounded pretty cool.

Couldn't stand any of the actors in the cutscenes, though. Ugh.

I don't know if this is the right place for it but I really raged at how Mengsk was made into such a ludicrous villain. The cheesy news segments were pretty stupid, too; there's nothing particularly witty or funny about having such pathetic attempts at propaganda. Why were all the news broadcasts live with a reporter who clearly wasn't on board? So. Fucking. Stupid.

I thought the voice acting was pretty decent. Tychus was good, Tosh was good, Hanson was the only real glaring "eh" for me. I also really liked Tricia Helfer as Kerrigan, especially the Queen of Blades; I thought she did the part VERY well.

I do agree that the unit voices aren't quite the same; the sc1 voices just sounded crisper and better. The vulture is bored now instead of pissed. :\ This was the big no-no for me; with pretty much every SC1 unit I found myself liking the original voice better, and not just because of nostalgia.

The missions are crazy fun though,.

The dialog itself was sometimes cheesy, but as soon as I heard "Sometimes its just worth fighting for" in the trailer, I expected it. And because it's uniform, I grew to appreciate it, as it was its own style despite not being as adult of language as some of us might like.

Only thing I didn't like was how zeratuls voice seemed to change after the initial cinematic when you meet him. (not really a spoiler unless someone simply didn't know zeratul was in it yet but oh well)

I thought it was disappointing. Everything was either jokey or cheesy, and IMO a far cry from the great writing and voicework of SC1/Brood War. About the only character I really enjoyed was Tosh (even though, of course, he is a stereotype too)
