The whole low-carb diet stuff is just stupid media fads, none of the top athletes in any fields follow it. If you look at athletes in any sport, or even at body builders and fitness experts, few if any would tell you to do away with carbs. You also attack carbs by saying "theres no need to minimize your hours in the gym by eating a tub of ice cream," which hardly makes any sense, considering nobody is saying to eat ice cream. But can you tell me with a straight face that eating dates, prunes, figs, oranges, blueberries, raspberries, any other fruit you can name is going to "minimize your hours in the gym?" If you can, I feel very sad for you lack of correct nutritional information. Also, it's fairly easy to eat only 100g of protein and get 2000 calories (or even 3000), without being vegetarian. Other than meat, most foods have a very high calorie to protein ratio, even things like nuts and beans, so if you eat a lot of fruits, vegetables and things like oatmeal or granola, it's easy to get enough calories and not consume a ton of protein. You obviously have not tried low carb yourself. There's nothing "media fad" about it, it's tried and true. Fruits you mentioned are relatively good in terms of carbs and body effect, compared to grains and refined foods... A low carb diet with fruit added in is, I think, something called the Paleo Diet, and though I have not tried it myself it seems a decent alternative, at least to eating high-carb. I have no hate for fruits. The other poster covered any other points I might have made, such as professional athletes eating low carb. As for the second part of your post, you missed the part of his post where he says "with supplements." If you're drinking 25g protein shakes you should NOT have any trouble hitting 150, 200g of protein in a day. Your post also contradicts itself, "...without being vegetarian." You go on to list a large number of vegetarian foods. "OTHER THAN MEAT", as in, VEGETARIAN.

I really don't see the point, I will get shredded and I will get my abs, it will just take a bit longer but it means I can still enjoy my fruits/yogurts/bread. Why deprive yourself if you're not a professional body builder. As I stated in my previous post, if you've eaten high carb most of your life there is a transition period of about 1-3 weeks (generally between 1-2 depending on how fast your body can adapt) where your body has to switch it's metabolism by increase fat burning enzymes to allow you to have sufficient energy on a low carb/high fat diet. Since you only did it for a few days, you came to the conclusion that you were constantly hungry, had no energy, and your exercise sucked. However, you didn't stick with it long enough to find out if it's actually good for not... It's not depriving yourself at all to be honest. Most people are addicted to carbs and/or sugar, so it's good to get off it and greatly increase your insulin sensitivity. Very good for health.

The Silent Killer Broccoli, believe it or not, is actually a poisonous vegetable. It CAN cause cancer, however several early humans happened to be immune to the rare form and so it has lived on as a common household vegetable. Not only is it cancerous, broccoli is far too hard to be chewed as well as other vegetables, causing cases of severe choking. Viewers of 'The Simpsons' may have seen the episode where Homer dies from choking on broccoli, Dr Hibbert explaining how its disgusting taste warns you of its deadly abilities. Truth!

Well, after 3 months on my new strength-based training, I have been receiving some comments from friends that i look "bigger", so I guess some effects of the training is showing itself. Next Question: For Abs work, i do 3 sets of 30 situps, i'm guessing its too little to show effect. Anyone has suggestions? Furthermore, i went on a protein-heavier diet in my normal meals by including more meats and whatnot, but I *swear* that i can pinch more belly fat now, even though my weight was more or less stayed constant. Any suggestions to stop this from happening? Thanks!

Edit: I suppose I am very carb tolerant, I eat quite many carbs during my cycling exertions that sometimes go over 100 miles :<.

I had a few questions about some foods White Bread - People tell me not to eat it but is it ok once in a while like maybe once a week or once every 2 weeks? I'm asking because most shops on my campus sell white bread sandwiches Also; are almonds alright for you? I hear they have a lot of benefits but are fatty...

They should have alternatives... whole wheat is healthier but the main thing is that they both have shitty carbs that you don't need which will turn to fat. Almonds are alright but in moderation... you should be eating fruits and vegetables and lean proteins...I started using a meal replacement shake instead of eating snacks in between meals. Something like: Frozen berries Banana Peanut Butter Non fat yogurt Milk Protein Powder Tastes great and keeps you full. I try to eat natural foods... don't eat shit with preservatives and additives. Make your own meals with grilled chicken, fish, veggies, etc. and drink plenty of water (10+ glasses a day). Combine that with exercise at least 3 or 4 days a week and you're set.

My roommate who can't lose weight refuses to use this because I insist that the reason is his diet and he won't believe me yet he continues to eat a bowl of pasta covered in pesto sauce and a giant vat of chili and rice for dinner every night. Go figure lol.

Thanks! 30 sets of 30 sit ups probably wont do shit...start doing more things like leg lifts, scissors, bicycles, ab twists, weighted sit ups, etc. Combine this with cardio if you want to more definition. getting a 6 pack is a combination of having enough abs for them to show and having low enough body fat for them to show. I'm up to 200-205 now but starting to lose some definition even if i have gained strength. been infrequent at the gym, but i can't wait till i go home and can lift 4 times a week and run every day ![]()

when i first wake, orange juice and banana smoothie. couple hours later i cook up stir fry (generally like, broccoli carrots onions mushrooms in olive oil), eat that on rice. few hours later i have a snack of oatmeal - maybe with some more juice and then 3-4 hours before bed I have more stir fry on rice strength training every other day, yoga/cardio on off days 1 arm pullup is still coming. I can get most of one with my right arm but can't with my left arm - shoulder is still too weak.

Always remember to eat breakfast when you wake up, increases metabolism like crazy My advice for soda addicts is to switch to seltzer Most people in the gym are nice =) don't be intimidated when you start Remember to NOT overwork your muscles when lifting, you could stall out - keep in mind this is different from working out hard.

Be able to run 14km without stopping by August 9th. Which gives me 108 days to train. I would say if I walked outside now and went running I could do 5km~
