Also its irrelevant either way, all they needed to do was avoid defeat, if they win there next 10 games they will win the league as they will out score Arsenal and City will be given a right going over by Pep for that 2nd half performance to beat Arsenal at home. What ridiculous decision? You mean the same decision that Forest benefitted from earlier in the game for the same shit where a player gets hit in the head in their own box and it was a drop ball to the keeper? OK as a Forest fan I'm going to argue this point with you. Yes, the ref made the same stupid decision twice in the game. That decision, to take the ball off the attacking team and give it to the other team, is VERY different in the first half than it is with 2 minutes to go in the game. Th final two minutes may have looked very different if Forest had been allowed to keep the ball near Liverpool's corner flag at 0-0 with 2 minutes left. The same decision in the first half doesn't affect the rest of the game nearly as much. Either way it was a decision based on Tierney not knowing the rules of the game (the fact that he did it twice shows this even more clearly) and as a Forest fan I think we have a right to be aggrieved by it, and so do Liverpool's competitors at the top end, because the refereeing incompetence has completely changed that game at a vital point., resulting in an extra 2 points for Liverpool. And yeah, I know people will say we should have defended it better, and that is perfectly true (on Forest forums most of the talk was about Hudson-Odoi and Awoniyi trying to dribble it out of our box with seconds left on the clock) , but it doesn't lessen the point about refereeing incompetence, and it doesn't mean that the decision didn't completely change those last 2 minutes. The drop ball isn't the direct reason for you guys getting scored on anyways which you admit yourself, compared to a literal boot to the chest in the dying seconds of the game would mean a stonewall penalty to win the game outright with no counter attack potential from City since the game would've ended immediately after the pen was taken (see Brighton vs Manu from last season). I love all the handwaving saying, yeah we benefitted from this in the first half, but it's different so we just ignore what happened in the first half, as if Liverpool weren't also attacking in that moment when the drop ball was awarded to Forest too. We'll see anyways at the end of the season if the shit decisions were actually "balanced" as Pande wants to pretend or if we're going to be screwed as we usually are. Always fun how City usually always get the advantage from suspect decisions. So wait you think the ref should be allowed to play the game by any rules they choose as long as they apply to both teams equally? Personally I think the ref should stick to the rules of the game but each to their own I suppose, if it means Liverpool get a cheeky win. With 2 minutes left in a game, a decision like that is fucking ridiculous and you know it. Like you are saying with the City one, decisions mean much more right at the end of a match. If the ref incorrectly applies a rule consistently, and that's how a game in a vacuum is played, so be it. It happens all the time in every sport. Just look at basketball and their non-calls for travel violations. The rule is incorrectly applied, but it's applied consistently. You're trying to say that you'd rather just your team benefit from an incorrect application to the rule, but suddenly when you're on the other end of the stick it's not ok anymore? Yeah sounds about right. A drop ball with 2 minutes left from the other side of the field compared to a stonewall penalty and borderline red card offense on the very last seconds of play are two totally different things and you know it. Should've defended better and not tried to play out from the back when your players had the ball. Sucks to suck. I suppose if you're really that tied to this pathetic, snivelling Liverpool victim narrative they manage conjure up every year about different things that you can't even acknowledge when a bad decision goes your way that's kinda your problem. Great use of Hillsborough in your comment. Lovely person you are mate. that's not warranted at all. As a UK dweller ‘always the victim’ is a super, super common turn of phrase and Hillsborough is usually invoked, even if implicitly. Despite the well, mountains of evidence on that incident. I’m not saying it was intended here, at all, but given the prevalence of the phrase, employed in a derogatory manner I can see how there might be some crossed wires. Well i don't use it for that reason, they always say refs are against them, this season alone they got Tierney banned from reffing a game of theres for like 3 months, then he was the one at the centre of this forest decision where he ignored the 4th official etc.
I guess we should probably draw a line under the comment and rebuttal and go back to just debating the bad call vs the previous bad call vs if you win the next 10 games your champions regardless!

And the semis of the DFB Pokal are now Leverkusen vs Fortuna Düsseldorf (2nd div) Saarbrücken (3rd div) vs Kaiserslautern (2nd div)
It has never happened in the DFB Pokal before that there is only 1 Bundesliga team in the semis...

Its such a pity that Stuttgart faced Leverkusen so early. The only two performing German teams

As a life-long Mönchengladbach supporter, this story does not make me feel good at all.
But they are playing a terrible season, so it is probably deserved.

Mönchengladbach coach is horrible

Gladbach as a whole team is trash because they lost all good players and have to rebuild. Clearly a management and planing issue. Their game against Köln showed that they have an abysmal defence.

And that game was absolutely finals worthy. Tough luck for Stuttgart

This means there is a very good chance a 2.Bundesliga team will play international next year right? Or did they change that rule again
EDIT: Seems they changed that a while back. 2nd doesn't get shit. Need to win

What if Saarbrücken wins the cup, do they play international then?

Sad for Inter but that was a pretty fun match to watch, lots of clown fiesta moments.

I just find it frustrating as, at least in recent times Athletico have went from making deep runs, to often taking one decent scalp and not a huge amount else. No sour grapes or anything, I like their quite distinct style and the contrast but I can’t get behind them as some underdog villain because they rarely keep doing it.
I do genuinely think Inter could make a dent in the competition, we were lucky with the draw last season and maybe not championship calibre despite ultimately making the final.
If anything this season we’re better again and it would have been fun to make another deep run and see how good we really are. Certainly by miles Serie A’s best side currently. And let’s not forget that for non-English sides or your Reals or PSGs the prize money by going deep isn’t negligible for a lot of sides.
Plus if you live in the UK very few support non-British teams, so to have that fun bar experience with some atmosphere and hype folks like myself tend to hope that we draw an English side.
Always next year!

The vinnie jones moment followed by an apparent apology followed by some friendly retaliation was great.

would have loved Inter in the last 8 but also Athletico. Just bad luck with the draw for Inter

Remaining teams in order from favorite to underdog IMO:
Manchester City FC Bayern Real Madrid FC Arsenal FC Barcelona Paris Saint-Germain Borussia Dortmund Atlético Madrid

Just bad luck with the draw for Inter We could have had a better draw for sure but it wasn’t an awful one, I have a certain degree of both allegiance and neutral detachment when it comes to football so it’s not some crazy bias but I do think Inter are currently a better side, just didn’t get it done ultimately.

Would be my ranking. Yours is pretty solid like I’d personally make a few swaps but pretty on the money.
I feel Real have the intangible clutch factor (see me literally predicting them losing in every round only for them to lose last time they won) over Bayern. But Bayern may have the benefit of being able to 100% focus on the CL with the league so far out of their grasp. That’s pretty much a crapshoot.
PSG just aren’t that good so I’d put Arsenal ahead, despite a ropey performance again Porto, but I could see Mbappe on fire carrying them through a tie or two.
Despite my complaint earlier that Athletico’s modus operandi in recent years is knocking one decent side out and then doing nothing, I still think they have the steel and nous over Dortmund, and it’s not like Dortmund are an unbelievable attacking side either. Barca IMO just aren’t that good currently, not terrible by any means but they’re as much their name and history as they are a currently top side.
City are clearly the best side in the competition, but they’ve been that IMO for like half a decade so it’s no guarantee of anything.
