Worth noting that said WR was set... literally like five minutes before - in the same race. I've said it before, that Lezak leg was a one-of-a-kind thing. He never got close again, and nor did anyone else. The current WR is still about .9 seconds slower than his split. It was and remains absurd, even with the suits.

Reaction times overall are actually quite poor, but a product of desperately needing to be safe as to not get DQ'd after the Chinese were this morning. 0.08 is pretty good, but anything over 0.12 leaves more to be desired. Ideally you'd want about 0.80 in total reaction time for the entire team, but that's asking a lot in an Olympic setting of course.

For track races it makes sense because they get to pre-accelerate, but in swimming it seems like there isn't much practical difference. Reaction time doesn't cover it.

In singles the reaction time is the hearing the gun, plus reacting to that. So think of seeing a car break ahead of you, and how long it takes for you to break. That's roughly around 0.5 seconds for a person, but I think the way reaction is measured here is once feet leave the ground, so that's another 1/10th or 2/10ths there. For the people further on, you predict when they'll touch, you're not actually waiting for them to touch, so it's not really a measure of reaction.

Assuming that Lezak in 2008 was some kind of insane outlier, the rest are fairly consistent.

Vision reaction time is better than hearing reaction time, so it is a measurable difference.

Kinda sad to see Magnussen with a 48'11 split considering he has swam 47 low before which would mean a 46 high split. -eidt 4th best split, not 3rd Magnussen was out with injury for most of last year. He's not in his best form and he also has a bit of a history of disappointing in the relays. It's still a shame. Roberts also had a bad day. We might have been a more serious contender if Magnussen was in better shape, but bronze is bronze.

Yea I thought he might've been injured during his preparation but I didn't know for sure.
