Djokovic lost vs Del Potro in the first round, giving Madman Murray his best shot for a back to back olympic win Also the second time Del Potro's beaten Djokovic at the Olympics.
Shame Federer couldn't compete, this would've been his last best chance for a Gold.

Wow, NBC has Summer Olys broadcast from 9am-4pm, on top of primetime coverage. That's kinda impressive. Last Winter Olys I had to resort to watching European/Russian streams because NBC primetime showing sucked ass.

How does the scoring in boxing work? I've only seen 10-9 rounds. How come there aren't 10-8 rounds or 12-10 rounds? The way things are going right now if you lose the first two rounds, you've then gotta knock the other guy out in the third. I also haven't seen any knockouts yet.

Winning a round by 2 points only happens if 1) your opponent gets penalized (e.g. low blows) or 2) you knock your opponent to the ground. The standard is for the scoring to be 10-9 if neither of those things happen.

I can't watch volleyball seriously anymore, too many of my friends have watched and made me watch aprts of that volleyball anime. I just can't help but chuckle now.

Man just saw the basketball score for the USA vs spain game.
if the arguable second or so best team in the world can't crack within 40 points of the number one its going to be real ugly. gasol brothers were the only thing competative against the usa and now that they're old/injured nothings stopping the march until china catches up.

fml why is Japan so bad these games, we did so well in the WC

That was women basketball score (103-63). Spain played against Croatia last night and lost 72-70.
New generation of players is coming along nicely in Croatia. (Hezonja was 5th draft pick last year, this year we had Bender as 4th, Šarić was 12th 3 years ago, and he is coming to Philly this year). In a couple of years we might start wining medals again.

i was hoping Canada would win zero medals which would give traction to my preference for no funding for any olympic teams,
the olympics are primarily a giant drugged up scam and the IOC are a bunch of grifters.
at this point i'm hoping for no golds.

problem with China is that they cant farm team sports like they do for individual sports, even though they keep fucking trying. China needs home-grown junior/youth leagues of the same scale like what America has if they want to be competitive in basketball

finally first Judo gold for Japan...

Maybe in a while it might turn into something with all their cities being unable to have the grass for other sports and only the black top basketball parks being the thing for their poor people.
I wonder if anyones ever done a study on the backgrounds of pro atheletes in america and their parents finacial status. Wouldn't be surprised if a lot of them are poor city kids.

I was thinking same thing. If I showed up wanting to play some American football, and they instead wanted to play rugby, I wouldn't complain.
Been watching quite a bit of rugby until other Olympic events/NFL off season games begin catching my eye.

USA men's basketball played a horrible 1st quarter against Venezuela. They were tied 18-18 at the end of the first. Then they remembered how to play well and lead 48-26 at halftime

I avoid any sport with judges and point scoring like that. These guys are almost as bad as UFC judges.
