Good showings and some record breaking would be nice, but with all the news coming out of Brazil's less than ideal conditions and the doping scandals emerging again, I think a functional one would be more than enough.

Too often the gold just shifts from one doper to another.
the third place will get it. this just append to a Canadian weight lifting. she ended third in London i think and she should receive the gold medals soon since #1 and #2 were doped.
Also, I went to Brazil for work last year and god i have no idea why and how they got the games. This country is way to dangerous and corrupted...
And #3, how do you know that they didn't dope as well? To be perfectly frank the issue of doping is usually far more widespread than anyone is willing to acknowledge and we just like to pretend that if #1 was a doper, that #2 through #4,999,999 were all clean. But it's also very likely that it isn't true, that they all doped, and some just weren't caught.
I think those medals should just be stripped without being reassigned.
I'm intrigued to see what Brazil come up with for the opening Ceremony, they have been really good the past couple of events, or at least "interesting" Other than that i am hoping for records!

Ive been to brazil 5 times in the past 16 months and on my last trip was mugged in northern brazil. I agree with you about the corruption and beaurocracy. That said, Rio is far and away the most beautiful city i have been to. Ipanema, copacobana, the cable car on pao de azucar and the christ redeemer omg. I hope its successful but im sure there will be tons of issues. The wealth disparity in brazil is nuts. Its pretty sad with all the money being spent on the olympics and the horrific widespread poverty in the favellas.
Edit: cant find source for plumbing stat so its gone
