It would be nice a change, the level of FIFA corruption is outragerous. (If they could bring down too the corrupt 30 years dictator Villar of the spanish federation would be nice too xD).
But I think nothing will change.

It's great that FIFA is being investigated, but it's a shame that FIFA isn't using this as an opportunity to change their stance and try to change from the inside.

All of a sudden FIFA regrets their effort of popularizing football in the US. Turns out the president of CONCACAF is the chief of FIFA's internal audit. What a joke.

Yeah i mean holy shit this is just terrible. The way they just deflect everything all the time is bullshit.
Sums it up. What a complete farce! They are worst than any politicians, at least they are not above the law (as much) as FIFA are it seems. An untouchable organization that effects so much in the world, why has it taken the FBI to get involved! Why hasn't any organisation in Europe stood up. I guess maybe due to UEFA isn't as bad? or :s

Its a bit of a grey area, you can only arrest people from your own country or put out warrants for crimes on your territory. The EU is a joke anyway.
I know in Serbia the government was debating cleaning up our football bigwigs who were/are really really corrupt. UEFA just said: 'Now hold on, you aren't thinking about mixing politics and sport are you? You don't want to get banned from FIFA and UEFA do you?'

I remember when Fifa ethics comittee said that there were no case of corruptions, which EVERYONE knew was bullshit (regarding the Qatar 2022 fiasco)
Im so happy

Im so happy I think about every single poster in this thread would say there is corruption in FIFA. Maybe not everybody from Blatter down to the cleaning lady is corrupt but a fair few are. How is it possible that this could keep going for so long even with a unanimous consensus that the organization is rotten?
These people would not even have been arrested if they had used a bank outside of America.

the corruption case with the US is cool and stuff but shouldn't change too much with the traditionnal: individuals did wrong, the org is fine.
On the other hand there is way more potential in the swiss investigation if this carries on. And FIFA has been kind of a disgrace for Switzerland these days so there is a glimmer of hope I guess.

There was a German article about this last weekend, the basis of it was that the only place FIFA is seen as corrupt is UEFA plus a few other countries. The vast majority however views the corruption as normal or at least as a small evil compared to the success and wealth that Blatter has brought to FIFA. How else can you explain 6/7 confederations backing Blatter.

I doubt that this is going to change much in the overall fifa structure.

You do have to have proof about corruption, something similar happened here on Chile, some companies where found out giving money to politicians for their campaigns (in an obvious exchange for votes)... I mean EVERYONE knew about that happening since always, but you need the propper proof for it to be validated.
I mean, they will always get you, the greedier you get, the easier they will find out about you.
ESPECIALLY in this era of technology. I like how most think they are invincible yet they will fall, sooner or later.

You can bribe confederations too you know ?

i wish journalists would be more upfront with the press guy and just say it out loud how it is. the most baffling thing is that everything is sailing in a sea of piss in FIFA and they just keep going

Everyone I am surrounded by (this forum, the press etc.) views FIFA as corrupt. The rest of the world doesn't, regardless of whether they view the corruption as minor or are corrupt themselves.

Swiss police arrested some of the most powerful figures in global soccer on Wednesday, announcing a criminal investigation into the awarding of the next two world cups and plunging the world's most popular sport into turmoil.
In addition to the Swiss criminal probe, at least six soccer officials and a number of sports media and promotions executives would face extradition to the United States to face corruption charges involving more than $100 million in bribes.
Those arrested did not include Sepp Blatter, the Swiss head of soccer's multi-billion dollar governing body FIFA, but included several of those just below him in the hierarchy of the wealthiest and most powerful sports body on earth.
The arrests by plain-clothes police were made at dawn at a plush Zurich hotel where FIFA officials are staying ahead of a vote this week where they have been expected to easily anoint Blatter for a fifth term in office.
Swiss prosecutors said they had opened criminal proceedings against unidentified individuals on suspicion of mismanagement and money laundering related to the awarding of rights to host the 2018 World Cup in Qatar and the 2022 World Cup in Russia.
Data and documents were seized from computers at FIFA's Zurich headquarters. A spokeswoman for FIFA declined to comment.
The Swiss Federal Office of Justice (FOJ) did not immediately identify which officials were arrested pending extradition to the United States, but media reports said they included Jeffrey Webb and Eugenio Figueredo, both FIFA vice-presidents.
The officials were suspected by U.S. investigators of having received or paid bribes totaling millions of dollars, the Swiss FOJ said, while the media and promotions executives were accused of paying the kickbacks.
"The US Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of New York is investigating these individuals on suspicion of the acceptance of bribes and kickbacks between the early 1990s and the present day," the statement said.
"The bribery suspects - representatives of sports media and sports promotion firms - are alleged to have been involved in schemes to make payments to the soccer functionaries - delegates of FIFA and other functionaries of FIFA sub-organizations - totaling more than US$100 million." source

So there are in fact two investigations going on. One by the Swiss about the world cups and one by the US about 100m$ in bribes.
