Plot twist: the only people getting thrown in jail are the ones that didn't support Blatter in the first place.
Since Blatter himself wasn't arrested this is pretty much a given no? Blatter would never allow his supporters get arrested.
One of the arrested is Jeffrey Webb, according to multiple stories a close confidant of Blatter and his designated successor.

The Americas outside of the US had pledged support to Blatter in the election so this is mostly impacting his friends and backers. Webb surely has something on Blatter and in fact Jack Warner claimed in 2011 that he was innocent but that he had documentation of corruption at the top. Too bad Warner won't get extradited.

They have an office in the US.
The US has been going after international organizations for a long time just look at all the banks that are settling for billions. Those are a lot bigger than Fifa will ever be.

They also laundered a lot of the money through the US, plus a lot of the sports/marketing companies that were direct facilitators of the money laundering are US companies as I understand it, apparently Nike may be involved too.
am i the only one upset/mad about the US and a US court doing shit with FIFA? WTF Fifa is not even based out of the US, the US is a poor country in regards to futbol culture, why the fuck is the US getting involved? unless money was laundered on US soil with US banks or some shit like that. or am I ignorant and Fifa is regulated by US law and needs to abby by US courts? WTF
also WTF by Swish politician by agreeing with the arrest, and if they extradite them?
this gets me very upset! thats why I left USA and moved to colombia, wth.. (might be personal bias since the us comes to colombia and arrest whoever they please and I hate my goverment for allowing so)

Oh this is very infuriating of course. But it has come to a point that I am going to allow anything for a chance to have FIFA get cleaned up :/
Fifa will never be cleaned up, its a private "association" where federation decide to join or not, its not a public government run entities which has to follow certain rules or give accountability to the public. Like I understand its gotten so big is a monopoly and we might not agree with many decisions they make, but why should they cater to us? we decide to watch the world cups, etc no one forces us.
You have to understand that where big bucks are to be made corruption always will exist. commissions always got to be paid, because when you are in top rank position where you can make a multi million dollar decision of course you want some compensation, who wouldn't? that's just how life works
I mean unless they are doing some type of shit like injecting drug cartel money and legalizing it or terrorist money then ok arrest people. but make it happen in the country where the crime was committed not in fucking US court. I hate that they act like they have world jurisdiction to dictate law
edit: for clarification I do agree fifa is waaay over corrupted and something has to happen in order to get it a little less corrupted, but its always going to work like that. If I owned fifa or shares in fifa yes, I would care about the sport, but really I would care more about my own pocket as well

Payback for getting Group of Death draws and then sent cris-crossing all over Brazil with 1-2 days less rest.

money was laundered on US soil money was laundered through US banks Gold Cup was in the US and 2/3s of its operating expense was documented as bribes (wth stupid?!) US companies lost money through FIFA fraud FIFA does have to abide by US laws as they have the concacaf offices in the US so their regional branch is in the US.
HOWEVER
Switzerland raided FIFA headquarters and is pursuing criminal charges against FIFA (located in Switzerland) for crimes revolving around the 2018 and 2022 World Cup votes.
The Swiss are involved as well, what does it really matter if the US files charges as well? Sure most people here don't tend to give two shits about the game save for when the World Cup rolls around, but adding pressure can't hurt.
Beyond the, "we don't care about football," bit if US law was violated, the FBI gets to do what it wants. Kind of a tough shit situation.
Not saying the Swiss can't get shit done, but both countries working together really can't hurt.
I'm very happy to have the help of US law enforcement in outing the Fifa scum. The FA seem to be the only organisation attacking Fifa and that imbecile Blatter prior to the US involvement.

The whole thing involved crimes that were committed in the U.S., therefore the U.S. has legal authority to go after the case.
From the Telegraph's live feed MORE BREAKING NEWS - Sky are claiming that police have told ALL Swiss nationals working for Fifa - and that'll include Sepp Blatter - that they cannot leave the country!

Its an American cultural lie that Americans don't care about Futbol.
The most popular sports team in the United States as far as merchandise sales was the Mexican National Team by a lot when the numbers for (I think) 2012 were published...I just tried finding it online but I can't seem to locate it.
There is an old boy network that likes to act like America is all about baseball and hates soccer, but if I remember at least 3 of the top 20 merch "teams" teams were futbol teams (I think it was Man U, Mexico and then either Barca or Real)...also there were several college football teams in the list as well.
Its also just more in the open now. Its possible to follow the game while living in the US now...I can watch the EPL or MLS or MFL and the Champions League now...in the 80s I could read about them in Soccer America, in the 90s I could read about them in the news paper and see some stuff on Univision, but now its available to be consumed.
