I think the NFL will have a few Saturday night games later in the season once NCAA regular season is done. On Friday, I'm almost positive there's a law against having NFL games on Friday's because of high school football. But other than playoffs for HS football, its over by early November where I am.

I think they've avoided it for HS and college. Making it on Thursday essentially extends everyone's football weekend and extra day rather than impinging upon other commitments people have.

Start one at 7, the other at 10:15. That has to be better for ratings than one at like 5:45 and the other at 9.

Yeah, let's be frank here: Goodell might be a POS, but he's a dummy with 32 hands going into his back.

Good read about the creation of the NFL schedule. Regarding the discussion at hand, they don't slot participants in the Monday night game to play in the adjacent Thursday game. They're even hesitant to have the Sunday night away team in the slot.
