Really QPR are a small club with only a 17,000 seater stadium and even that hasn't been full for some of the games. They're just propped up by ridiculous money from investors. Wigan have a bigger 25,000 seater stadium they can almost fill when they are doing well and playing big Premier League clubs but after they have been relegated or aren't doing so well you realize how small their actually fan base is. They have had the smallest attendance of all the play off clubs (15,000) and I assume are just propped up by their parachute money really. There is a huge population within a short driving distance of Wigan situated as it is between Manchester and Liverpool, however Wigan itself is pretty small. So they have a lot of fair weather fans that turn up if they are doing well. So I guess Brighton and Derby have the biggest supporter bases and are the more deserving clubs to go up. But that's not necessarily where the money is. I need to stop caring so much about the the financial, stadiums, logistical side of things so much. I'm not sure other people get as obsessed with these things.

I took that for granted at the time because it just sounded right. But actually Brighton have had the highest attendance in the league this season. I guess they're the smallest because they don't have a ridiculously rich owner pumping money into them or any history of been in premier league. I'm currently reading this book (in Dutch though, I heard the English version rates Arsenal highly), that's about this kind of stuff, Lots of statistics, maybe you'd like it.

You basically get a lot of Wigan Warriors RLFC supporters who'll support other NW teams and a lot of Wigan Athletic FC supporters who'll support St. Helens RLFC (who Wigan Warriors consider rivals). Also, being a town in the NW that is close to Manchester and Liverpool, you get a lot of Manchester United/Liverpool/Manchester City supporters. I was actually at the Wigan vs. QPR game on Friday (my friend who is a season ticket holder at Wigan had some spare tickets) and it was an incredibly dire game of football. QPR parked the bus and Wigan couldn't do anything about it. Fortune should've scored for Wigan, though. EDIT: I mean, the town only has something like 80 thousand people. 15 thousand is a decent bloody chunk of that ![]() ![]() The Wigan Vs QPR game was dire, I agree. There's definitely more historic link to football in the north and it seems there's a lot more going on with the Wigan area than I knew. I shan't ever claim to be an expert on the area. On a similar note I'm still amazed Burnley managed to get promoted this year. The population of Burnley is only 73,000 and all the surrounding towns have their own clubs so i can't imagine it draws massive support from the surrounding area and towns. Really impressive. But there's a big history of football there. Brighton must have huge potential as you say the city itself is pretty sizable and the south east has a lot of population and there's no other big clubs in the South East, Brighton have to look all the way north to Crystal palace to find a rivalry (although there are other reasons for that rivalry). What if he turns out to be another Guiza? or even Torres. I hope he performs well though. Still Chelsea should've gone after Cavani...
