He will not be there for 3 1/2 years, in cases like this he will be released on licence after 9 to 18 months.

Back to football. In the CL thread there was a discussion about Liverpools ability to compete in europe. A few weeks ago I read that they have a lot of debts which might lead to a malaga-like suspension from european football. Does anybody know more? I'd really like to see them compete as they have a promising squad and with Suarez as an argument they should've chances to get a few good transfers.

Hoeneß only used his own personal money, I don't think Bayern benefitted from his tax evasion in any way. I haven't heard a single media report or even any person I've talked with disagreeing with this.

Well I think your misunderstanding how sentencing works, 3.5 years in this case would be the maximum period he can stay imprisoned but very often even for other crimes can serve out shorter periods with certain restrictions to their freedom based on clauses to the punishment. The idea of imprisonment itself isnt punishment for punishments sake, there has to be a reason for it, and cooping up Hoenes in a cell for 3 something years doesnt really alleviate anything, infact its just a burden on the justice system Still there has to be some punishment so he gets served then hes let out on payroll or whatever equivalent they have. It makes perfect sense and isnt really corrupt at all. It has nothing to do with corruption thats just how punishments are dished out and frankly I cant think of any reason to call the German law system corrut.

Away to Yanited Away to Everton Away to Liverpool Away to Spurs Like they could easily drop out of 12 points there they could easily only get 6 from them. Leaving the door wide open for Chelsea <3 Be interesting, but again who would back against them going to all 4 of those grounds and winning 3-0 3-0 3-0 3-0 xD

He did most of his speculating with money "gifted" by his good friend the then CEO of Adidas - at a time Bayern renewed the Adidas sponsorship. Of course this has nothing to do directly with the tax evasion case, but it's not as easy to differentiate between Hoeness the Bayern president and Hoeness the stock gambler.

This is true but most importantly by law the club has nothing to do with it. That it leaves a bad taste is a different story, but it is not something like Barcelona with Neymar or even what happens regularly in Italy or Turkey. I personally think that not fighting the verdict was the smartest possible thing he could do. It avoids damage to the club, get this out of the press and shows (at least for the public) that he really feels guilt and is sorry for what he did, which was the strategy of his defense from the beginning. That way he can come back maybe not as president but with a nice little management job for the youth teams or something like that. They even got Breno a job so they find something for him for sure. If he doesnt stab another inmate he will be out after around 21 months and due to his good lawyers he will have all possible reliefs like a good job in prison, holidays from it, with a bit of luck even a cellphone and with a lot of luck even payTV.

It depends if the prosecutor wants to go to trial again it can be longer, if the convict does it himself it cant be. This is not completely over by the way the prosecutor can still say that he wants to try again for a longer time in prison. For everyone who thinks this is like holiday and it is to easy their: First it is not. I worked in a prison for some time and believe me it is not fun at all beeing their even as an employer. Second you have to keep in mind how the german law system works. The main target is not to punish someone it is to bring someone back to the community, to "resocialice". The prisoner keeps almost all of his rights including information (a news paper or a tv), the right of beeing able to do something (read, work, talking to other prisoners). He will also keep his right to vote for example (there are exceptions on this). The only cases were this is different is for misconducting in prison or if it is necessary to protect the comunnity (like repeat rapists, murder or something like that). There is also a pretty high chance that he will be a "Freigänger" after 6 months which means that he is "free" on daytime and has to return to prison for the night. There are different versions and condition with this. So if someone like Hoenes who didn´t hurt anyone, with a family, most likely a job, high chances of not breaking the law again and a very good social prediction the german law system will try as hard as it can to get you out of prison as soon as the law allows it. This has nothing to do with he being a celebrity, this is just how things like that work in germany. And it is not bad to do it this way in my opinion.
