Don Cherry is on their payroll. Pretty much sums it up.
Tucker may be terrible, but he's "a beeeauttty" in the eyes of that ignorant bugger.

Sharks fans were happy when we dumped Murray. He's a great, physical player, but he's just gotten so slow recently. Our defense actually got better as a result of getting rid of him (the team got a lot better in general at the trade deadline when we dumped our slower players and added Torres). Hell, Scott Hannan of all people has played exceptionally well so far for the Sharks and made everyone forget about Murray. honestly i am not sure if it is him particular i cant recall anything specifc off the top of my head but at different points all of their defensemen have looked inept.
it's a lot easier to tell when the goaltender is playing shitty. that link i posted above is hilariously bad haha
i barely caught any of the canucks series, so i cant really relish in their loss as much as i should
I wonder what happens in Vacouver now. 4-0 this year and 4-1 the year before. At least the Kings were coming in hot as hell last year. I admittedly did not see them as much as I saw the Kings last year, but SJ didnt seem like they were anywhere near that level. I picked the Canucks actually, but I figured if they the Sharks were to win, it would be in a six or seven game series.

I wouldn't say anything is the cup decider yet. I really hope that the Sharks don't have to play the Blues. That is one team that has the Sharks' number. The Sharks' most likely second round opponent will be Chicago. That's not a matchup that I would expect the Sharks to win, even though the Sharks are very clearly playing their best hockey right now.
St. Louis matches up very well against the Sharks. With Anahiem and Detroit tied, I don't think there's a likely second round matchup yet, but hopefully the Sharks can knock Chicago out.

Wait, isn't a case where MAF is once again shitting the bed in the playoffs, as his 'averages' would have anticipated actually an instance where the stats are saying something, not one that 'describes nothing'?
MAF, on average puts up about -.20 down on his regular season SV% in the playoffs. Every year, minus one where he only played a few games. The fact that people could predict his free-fall based on the stats doesn't make the stats useless... or am I missing something?

all the remaining west teams are very strong and any of them could go to the finals. Chicago's gotta be the favourite right now, but I'm interested to see how St Louis does. Their run last year was very surprising, and it wasn't too long ago that they were a bottom-feeder team. When I watch them play they're not overly flashy, rather they show the importance of each and every player buying into the coach's system, and playing as a team. I like their grit.

It makes me want to punch someone when the commentators on our local stations talk about how much fight the Wild have in them. I don't give a damn if you hustle the entire time and finish your checks; when you perform several levels below your pay grade and can't hit the broad side of a mother fucking barn with a God damn puck, you are an embarrassment to this fucking state.
Shit makes me sick. The under-performance we see from Koivu, Parise, etc. is reminiscent of the complete failure that Fernando Torres is at Chelsea.
Again, I don't give a fuck if you hustle and check hard for the entire game; that may be fighting, and I'm glad we're seeing that (finally); that's the kind of play we want to see here in Minnesota. However, it doesn't matter when you have a continuing problem and you fail to address it. Learn to aim a God damn puck. 0/6 on the power play and not getting a single fucking shot on goal in the last five minutes should earn the entire team a week's pay donated back to the club.
The worst part of it is that everyone in this fucking state seems to be oblivious to the fact that this happened the entire month of April. Over Feb/March the roster was finally earning the money they were getting paid, and then they just started sucking it up again and we had numerous games where we vastly out-shot the opponent and yet couldn't score a fucking goal. This is a chronic problem that isn't due to an "off day".
I can already see myself turning into my grandfather. The man is a 73-year-old diehard Vikings fan that follows them closely, owns endless merchandise, and watches every game. Still tells me that they're going to lose every single game. Man is so bitter and disappointed by the team's incessant failures that it's impossible for him to be even remotely excited about the team.
Life of a Minnesota fan.
Now you know my life being an Avs fan for the past 10 or so years. I want the glory days back.

I picked the Canucks actually, but I figured if they the Sharks were to win, it would be in a six or seven game series. The Sharks were awful for most of the season due to a combination of malaise, injuries, and a very slow style of play. Once they dumped their slower players, moved Burns to forward, and acquired Torres, the Sharks suddenly looked like a contender again. In fact, their forward depth right now is arguably as good as it ever has been. They have two legit first lines (Couture and Thornton lines), a third line that could be a second line(Pavelski), and a really good fourth line (Gomez). Niemi has been awesome all year. The one question mark has always been the blue line given some of the really young players back there (Irwin, Braun, Demers), but they haven't flinched so far. The vets (Vlasic, Stuart, Boyle, and Hannan) have been very solid.
In short, I don't really know what to make of this Sharks team. I expected them to lose to Vancouver and I still expect them to lose at some point in agonizing fashion (because they always do). However, looking at it objectively, the Sharks have a deceptively deep team right now that is capable of hanging with anyone. If anything is going to make a difference for the Sharks, it will be the Couture line. That kid is emerging as a legit perennial Selke contender. Because of Couture, the Sharks have a first line that can match up with and shut down opposing top lines for the first time. With his line combined with the depth of the other lines, it's less likely that we'll see another series like the Ducks/Sharks one from several years ago where the Getzlaf line shat all over the Thornton line during the series, and the Shark's couldn't keep up otherwise.
(Not having to worry about Nabokov's gaping five-hole getting repeatedly violated also helps. Sorry, Isles fans.)

It's because you're too used to watching them fail time and time again. They did have a really bad start this season but meh. They're peaking at the right time. I don't think the Sharks are going to win the Cup this year but they can certainly do damage.

Correction: Don is on the CBC payroll and their home base is Toronto. You know how much Don loves pesky forwards who fight. Fits right into his mantra and Toronto fans love to be entertained.

Dat Rask. On that subject, whatever happened to Andrew Raycroft and/or Justin Pogge? Are they both playing in Europe now? Haven't heard anything from them for some time.

Let's be real: the Canucks players did a lot of stupid shit that invited the penalties that they got. Their discipline was horrific, and they refused to take responsibility and adjust. That is on AV mostly. The Sharks were far more disciplined, yet when they did stupid shit, they were penalized, too (see Desjardins).
The bottom line is that the Canucks are a dirty team, are rightfully viewed around the league as a dirty team, and deserved most of what they got.
Please, the Canucks haven't been a dirty team for a long time. It's a reputation thing that lingers based on the regime run by Brian Burke in the past. Kesler and Burrows aren't arrogant mouthpieces like they used to be and the organization even managed to reel in Lapierre who used to be the biggest yapper in the NHL.
I don't think the Canucks deserved to win the series. They shot themselves in the foot with a bunch of legitimate penalties which their inept PK couldn't kill, but that last one on Sedin was a legitimate bullshit call. NHL refereeing really needs another look and needs to be closer to the NFL where refs actually talk about questionable calls and even, gasp, overturn the penalty from time to time.
There's a lot of polls going around Vancouver today asking the general public who they think should go. AV or Gillis. I honestly don't know who I'd pick.

Um the referees actually do convene quite a bit to discuss many situations. There have always been a lot of questionable calls. It's just tough luck. As for the the throwing in a red flag to argue a call and force them to go to replay? I wouldn't mind that so much.

dope seats. how much that set you back??
i am happy the isles are looking good again. a first round win will do so much for that franchise, and breathe life back into the isles rivalries with all of their atlantic buddies.
Believe it or not not that much, only $180 which for playoff hockey is pretty damn good imo. They were even better when i got to see Crosby get dropped in the first haha. And they definitely are, going toe to toe with the pens like that is nothing short of spectacular. The officiating in that game though...that was something else -.-

Question: Are penalties ever actually taken back during a game ever? I always see people arguing plays and referees discussing calls but is there really any point to all of that?

I've seen icings recalled, but that's it. The refs figured it out themselves, don't think the players argued too too hard.

They do huddle in a lot of situations, none of which are penalty calls though. Icings, where the faceoff should be, if a goal should have been allowed, etc.
With penalties, as it has always been in the NHL, one ref puts is arm up and calls what he sees and that's the end of the story. It's always ridiculous to me when the ref with the best view of the situation doesn't call a penalty but the other ref all the way up the ice decides to call something. situations like this should result in the two refs talking to eachother to decide if what happened should actually be a penalty.
Reffing in all sports has some level of error, but I truly believe the NHL is the worst officiated of all the major leagues. Yes, even worse than the NBA.
