Ever head of "leaning offside" ? They even call it when theres a hand out infront these days which is ludicrous. Benefit of the doubt to defenders.. all that jazz.

The rule is that the benefit of the doubt goes to the attacker right? I do agree that it's always the other way around.

"Just going to the footy love."
"Ok darling, you got your green lazer?"
"Oh yeah, thanks love, almost forgot it."

Ah, I have heard that thought it was just a random phrase. Interesting, surprised I got through 24 years without learning that rule.

This seems to be a common misconception. In football I dont really believe there is any rule as such, its tends to be conventional and the consistency is pretty sloppy
Thats probably because there isnt really any clarity in the logic behind who should get the benefit. Giving it to the defender as far as close offsides is concerned is considered safer.

Yeah Torres really isn't great at staying onside, he's been pretty poor in the pre season and the first two games...could do with some coaching on that. We definitely got lucky.
Oh, penalty for Barcelona...

Accidental, but still nasty. Must hurt like hell.

The 2005 edition of the Laws of the Game included a new International Football Association Board decision that stated being "nearer to an opponent's goal line" meant that "any part of his head, body or feet is nearer to his opponents' goal line than both the ball and the second-last opponent (the last opponent typically being the goalkeeper). The arms are not included in this definition.
