or could you download Fitday on your computer if you dont have a smartphone!
phyre when you say a plate do you mean a plate on each side, so 135? or the bar + 45pounds, so 90?
Ive been skipping workouts for a few days due to terrible sleeping habits again. Then I went to bed at 12 and felt so much better today..I dont know why I keep sabotaging my health lol, its like im addicted to being awake past midnight. Sticking to good eating habits is ez as fuck compared to this :/
I have a soccer game at 10pm tonight so that doesnt help lol. But i promise myself, through this thread, that ill go to sleep asap after i get home. And then have an amazing workout the next morning.

yes, lack of sleep/stress can raise blood pressure

Had an impromptu squat day did 3x225 275 315 365 385 405 easy all full depth despite being sore from yesterday. Majority of the resolutioners are gone so i didn't even have to wait for a rack! stares from bros curling always helps me knock out another rep nice an easy ^^. Added in a few front squats, weighted chin ups and planks. Probably do some power work tomorrow.

Also worked on bench press form. That should improve quickly and I can get back to adding weight.
Still working on the nutrition part, finished up my skim milk and bought some whole milk.

Don't worry, it will come quickly! you'll go from < 45 to stackin on the plates in mere weeks :D
Drink whole milk like its about to go bad the next day!

Eh you dont really need to count calories, although it will really put things in perspective for you. You could just eat as much as you can like 5-6 times a day and that would work too.
lol @ "getting fat" You're not going to get fat, you're going to actually fill out your frame and look like a boss.

Skipping workouts leads to staying up late leads to skipping workouts! Get on your routine and you'll start going to sleep at good times.

Your blood is adapting to the pressure it has been under holding twice your body over your head :-p
edit: just checked my shit on fitday, Pretty sure i should be losing weight considering it looks like i'm only taking in like 2500-3000 calories.. In fact i'm not sure how the fuck i'm at a steady 205 +/- 2 lol. Probably the binge drinking.

When I say plate, yeah I mean one on each side so 135. He's made 90 pounds of progress on his squat in a month - still doesn't quite hit parallel on the last one or two reps, but it's close. I'm working with him =p. This is going from never having touched a squat rack before. I don't know how he's eating, but I do know it's dining hall food so it can't be spectacular.
As far as sleep habits... I can relate. My job keeps me up until 2:30 or 3 at least two nights a week, and I'm up until 3 or later for studying another two, as well as partying for one. I have 8 am classes every day, so I average probably 6 hours of sleep. It's miserable to force yourself to workout when all you want to do is crawl up into a ball and not wake up until tomorrow - but I find that any day I make myself go anyway, I'm always glad that I did. I've never missed a workout, regardless of the reason, and felt OK with that decision. Even if you don't sleep - if there's ANY way to do it, go workout anyway. It's worth it.

I used to get bruises a lot, but it's been considerably less ever since I felt more comfortable with it. I don't think you "should" be getting bruised if you are doing every rep perfectly (well, this is clearly impossible).
One common problem I had was not bringing the bar high up enough/no stooping low enough so that the bar lands on my shoulders as I bring up the bar to its proper position with my shoulders --> huge bruises the next day.
It actually helps a lot if you just do it with a lot of confidence, and not care about the possibility of hurting yourself. Also, staring at a fixed spot helps too (don't look at yourself in the mirror)

the easiest way to pack in extra calories is whole milk. drink a few liters a day and i guarentee you your weight will shoot up. ideally, you should find the calorie intake that gives you a weight gain of half a pound to a pound a week. that way you can be more sure that your weight gain is muscle and not fat.
Whole milk definitely helps, I remember advice on the BB.com forums talking about squats and gomads (gallon of a milk a day) for gaining weight. My stomach is unable to drink lots of milk, but I do get whatever I can in there and supplement them with weight gainer in between meals.
Over the past couple weeks I've gained around five pounds just from lifting heavy and eating well, but it could also be because of newb gains. My progress has been great thus far and I hope it'll only get better as I keep going!
When taking genetics into consideration and looking at my appearance now I doubt that fat will be playing a role anytime soon, I was around five percent body fat when I kicked off my program! But I do agree with you, I'd rather have muscle than fat.
I'm currently on the GST program by 2020Wellness, and it's been great. Here's the workouts I have in store for this upcoming week. Weight may vary if the initial set is too easy, I'll add on five/ten pounds depending on the exercise.:
WEDNESDAY - Press day CORE LIFT: Incline Bench Press 3 sets, 3x115 // 3x115 // AMRAP (as many reps as possible) x115
Flat DB Press 3x8 at 45lbs Military BB Press 3x8 at 75lbs BB Curl (weak point training) 3x8 at 55lbs
THURSDAY - Squat day CORE LIFT: Squat 3 sets, 3x135 // 3x135 // AMRAPx135
Front Squat 3x8 at 95lbs Bulgarian Split Squats 3x8 at 25lbs
SATURDAY - Pull/lift day CORE LIFTS: Multi-grip pullup 3sets at AMRAP
Deadlift 3 sets, 3x175 // 3x175 // AMRAPx175
T-Bar Rows 3x8 at 150lbs Good Mornings 3x8 at 85lbs Seated Cable Rows 3x8 at 120lbs Cable Pullthroughs 3x8 at 130lbs

That's okay, as long as you keep at it, your numbers will skyrocket in no time. Don't focus too much on numbers, doing them right is much much more important than doing more.
And about bring sore, it happened to me when I took a 2 week break, I couldn't walk for two days, it felt great.

If your diet is good though you should be OK... but should get sleep and stress under control definitely that'll help a lot.

hahaha i lol'd
And yeah if its on your shoulders you're at least catching it right, you might be pulling it too high and letting it fall on you. You'll get used to it and start catching it at its standstill point and shoulders will get used to the weight on them. And yeah, prepare to get huge traps and a thick back. It's fucking awesome.

Glad to hear he's recovering!
That reminds me, i saw a cheerios add on how great they are for your cholesterol so i googled around a bit and found a yahoo answer that never makes me want to eat cereal again(not that i have in ~2 months):
That is ridiculous marketing that people believe, so they use it to promote profits. They are profiting on the unbelievable paranoia over cholesterol. They buy cheap grains and that is mostly genetically engineered junk that contains antibiotic marker genes, terminator genes, and insecticide genes designed to kill bugs that eat the junk grains. They add synthetic vitamins that are not vitamins at all, but synthetic chemical activators that actually damage your DNA based on recent quantum physics experiments showing how these chemicals damage cells.
The sugars they add to this junk and excytotoxins to "enhance" the flavors, etc. plus preservatives to allow the pretty boxes to sit on shelves for years does your body NO good. If you actually believe these guys are interested in your health beyond getting sued for causing major problems, you need to free yourself from the lies you believe. It's all about money, not health.
Cholesterol is sometimes called a fat, but in reality it is a special kind of alcohol. Our brains are largely cholesterol and saturated fat. Children who do not get enough cholesterol in the first years of their lives develop a loss of cognitive functions and is necessary for the part of the brain in the fetus that allows the eyes to develop. Our hormones are made of cholesterol, our cell membranes are protected from free-radical attack by cholesterol, and our body heals itself using cholesterol. If we don't make quite enough, and we don't eat very much, we risk running short. Cholesterol is a transporter of fatty acids that repair damaged arteries. Why do you think doctors are so concerned now about blood pressure in people who take these insane statin drugs? The arteries are not getting repaired and creating a high stroke condition! Do you think this is why STROKES are now Number 3 on the list of diseases in America today that are killing people? The real culprit is inflammation from infections in the body, not cholesterol. Cholesterol is doing what it is designed to do. To concentrate on lowering cholesterol and ignore the infection and inflammation issue is just plain stupid and bad science.
I think if you eat cheerios to lower your cholesterol, there is a lot of things you need to understand that will have a much greater impact on your life.
good luck to you Source(s): CNT, B.A. biology & chemistry Advanced nutritional research

Follow the program, don't add a bunch of unnecessary shit in. Eat lots and avoid bad foods. jog/swim should be fine provided its not too intense that it will prohibit recovery. btw, long steady cardio isn't very good for much if you're not doing it for fun/sport, HIIT is better for increasing cardio and burning fat.

Day 2 at the gym. Squats are a lot better, spent most of the day fixing my form and at the end did a few sets at 95x5 (10lbs more than last time woot). Regular press was good, 65x5x3 for work sets, i didn't have much trouble with it at all.
Power cleans, i fail miserably at x.x, Im having trouble with this. My from from the bottom seems to not be that great (it improved a lot from me failing to move the bar without my arms at the beginning) to not really racking it completely but more turning it into the form where you begin the press. Any ideas on how to make myself get more power out of the bottom and into a clean motion or is it just lots of practice?
I got to talking with some older guy too who was squatting a little over 200, he's done starting strength before and was giving me some tips on stuff that helped out a bit since i could see someone else do it in front of me. He gave me tips overall on long run advice as well as small pointers on my form for squat/press/power clean.
And lastly, my hands seem a little raw from the bar, any way to prevent calluses or do i need to work on proper positioning of my grip? They seemed fine all night until power cleans.

I would not recommend that. recovery is actually very important to grow muscles. also, you risk overtraining which will actually make you gain fat.
its probably ok if you are very careful and dont overdo it. also, as decaf already said, interval training is the best way to lose fat and saves time as well!
@Alventenie: use chalk to avoid calluses. and make sure the bar is on your fingers, not your palms (kinda hard to explain ) for pulling exercises like deadlift, which are probably the main cause for calluses. but your skin will adopt anyway and get harder in response to the pressure also, post videos of your power cleans. much easier to give advice!
