Hello fellow gamers,

My name is George 'Greekarmy' Malanos! I am really excited to announce that my new coaching site that I have been working on for the past 6 months is ready for you!

At the moment, we have 6 coaches ready to be booked! You can read about them here. Did you know that Satiini, Deathangel and Naugrim are coaching? If yes, now it’s even easier for you to reach them! If not, what are you waiting for?

Our aim is to please everyone that wants to get better at Starcraft2. We want to make it as easy as possible for you. There will be coaches for everyone, with a good price range for you to choose what fits you the best. You won't have to switch between sites of individual coaches in order to find the right one for you.
In the near feature, we will be adding more top tier players to our coaching team and a few good and skilled but not yet popular ones. It's up to you to decide which one is the best for you, we just provide the means to help you do that!

In the screenshot above you can see how the booking system looks like. You can choose your coach by selecting the hours you would like to book. Some coaches might have some package deals that can save you up some money if you are planning to attend more than 1 hour.

This one is the main reason I have designed Finegamer.com. This is where I have put all my hard work. I haven't found any Starcraft2 coaching websites yet that offer this functionality. You always have to fill in a form and send it to the coach and then wait for him to see what time fits you both the best. Here, you can simply see all the available hours -in your own timezone- the coach has and with just one click, book the hour/hours you wish to attend! Yes, it is simple as that. The easiest and fastest way around!

Along with coaching, finegamer.com offers other features such as exclusive replays from the coaches, where you can watch them play against the pros. There is also a stream list with online/offline mode, teamliquid style, where you can easily track if your favorite coach is streaming!

So, do you want to evolve from just another average gamer into a finegamer? Go ahead and make a visit at finegamer.com!

It's Euros and some of those prices are the standard, some of these players aren't just as well-known or publicized (not as much exposure, but they're pretty damn good in EU), that doesn't mean they're "nobodies" in the sense that they lack the credentials to coach.

Manner up, the topic is about his new site and coaching, not the prices of specific coaches you don't recognize.

Welcome to tl!

There is a helpful search bar at the top right of the page. If you type say... 'Naugrim' into it and hit Enter, you can find his progamer database page, tournament results, news about him, and more. Instead of say... flaming their coaching prices and claiming ignorance.

Great to see such a well put together site. I'm sure more pros will be interested once they've seen what looks like to me is great functionality.

To say that someone like Satiinii would be a nonamer is kinda rude tbh...
Satiinii is very famous from wc3, definitly a star, just not yet known in sc2.

I've heard of Satiini and Naugrim at the very least, so this site is obviously not a scam.

Nitpick - list prices as cost/hr instead of what you have now? It seems kind of confusing to have it listed the way you do now.

If only there were a website where you could type people's names in, hit enter, and get information on them. IF ONLY! WHY DOES THIS NOT EXIST? We could make a database of players. It could have information like tournaments they've been in, standings, and detailed info on the games they played. We could put it on a website even. Maybe this website! A player database for teamliquid. Maybe we could call it the team liquid player database. SOMEONE NEEDS TO MAKE THIS ASAP!!!!

http://www.teamliquid.net/tlpd/sc2-international/players/1774_Satiini Satiini is 106 in international ELO with two pages of tournament medals, lots of them gold. No he's not IMMvp but neither is every other person on the planet other than Mvp.

I am not shitting I am just stating my opinion. I didn't say a bad word about coaching and this site in particular.

Anyway, TL can always delete my opinion if they feel it hurts their income or e-sports But I doubt that such a desperate measures would be needed to convince people to book coaching.

The site looks great. I think all you're missing are either more coaches or the ability to sign yourself up as a coach and let the site take commission fees. This has never been done and I think would be a great way for some semi-pros to make a name for themselves if they are good coaches.

Best of luck!

Good luck with the site. You might consider lowering the prices some for the coaching thou, seams a bit too expensive.

Just to answer few questions:

1) You can apply as a coach if you are Master++ league. You can set your league from your profile and then the Apply for Coach button will appear.

2)
for the scheduling system you might want to show the timezone.

You see the available hours of the coach in your own timezone!

3)
only 1 protoss coach?

We do plan to add more coaches in the feature, but I can asure you that TheMista is a top notch coach and you can always check his replays and see what I am talking about

I never understand people that buy lessons, especially for so much money/hour. The biggest fun of the game is to learn and make some progress by yourself. I was total newbie in wc3, but it gave me some start in sc2, watch replays, work on your micro/macro/multitask and you will be rewarded and satifaction will be bigger than after spending 1000€ just to be in masters.

But I guess if there are people taht are willing to pay then Im fine with it...

I'm not interested in coaching lessons. but...

After reading the initial comments I was interested enough to click the link. Especially after Inori, a normal poster and not some random, said the format looked dated.

I half agree with him but I don't find it displeasing at all. The green/red lines against the words look a little unpleasant but other than that it's a easy to use and up front website. You did really good and should be proud.

Best wishes on the success of your coaching website.

I think i kinda know why the price for satiini is pretty high. He is a good player but not yet known, so he had rather practice a lot then coaching so if you make the price 30 euro only really dedicated people will buy coaching. And thats also not so often. But the sites looks good man . Good luck with it

For the ones complaining, that Mista(the lone Protoss coach) is unkown, i would suggest that you check out the final-4 of HSL tommorow.

http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=265424

Overall an impressive Toss, with wins over well-known and established players like Idra, Stephano etc. Plus no1 Global Ranking in Age of Empires online

Naugrim is hardly a nobody, the only American players that I would consider better than him are Huk, Idra and Sheth. However, he isn't the Drewbie/Catz/Destiny type that tries to get as much attention as possible, instead he just plays. So in terms of skill, he is probably one of the cheapest coaches you can get.

That being said, I really don't like this website. It looks like something from the 90's and I can't believe someone worked on it for half a year. I could probably come up with a better one in a week. I also don't understand why the language is so messed up either, the languages are all over the site. You don't even know which button to login with as they are in Greek or Russian or alike.

Otherwise, you gathered some good players, so good luck, though I feel they deserve something better.

Did you somehow switch to Greek language?

There are flags at the top right, you might accidentaly clicked or something, since by default unless you are from Greece you are being redirected to the English page.

No, I just used the link in your original post; http://www.finegamer.com/English/streams.aspx and the login-stuff are all in greek.
I can no longer rest under the tree of wisdom, since you have axed down the roots feeding it.

Just a very minor point Try to avoid using Red and Green to contrast things (such as your schedule). A large portion of the Starcraft 2 fan base is male, and up to about a third of males have some degree of red/green colour blindness, which can be frustrating sometimes.

I'm a geneticist, and when we publish papers we always try to avoid red/green for that reason.

Like I said, absolutely minor stuff,I think this is an awesome site, nice work.

Great Initiative man,
I think you did a great job getting this on the road.
I have some criticism though and if you dont want any just ignore it^^
I think your layout is pretty cool and all but perhaps you should approach it a bit more formally.
even though the background image is sweet i think it does not help your case, it is pretty distracting and it makes it a lot harder to focus on the text.
Great job man keep up the good work,

p.s. 35e an hour seems pretty steep

EDIT: Disable debugging

Perhaps you can make it possible to let anyone create a "coaching" account on your site? Allow them to create a profile and set scheduled times for them. By the way, I agree with you, that is a simply amazing concept to have. The calender setup.

You can figure out the exact financial aspects. But I would expect something like:
  • $X must be deposited to create an account, which will be refunded fully when closing your "Coaching" account (cannot close account with appointments scheduled). Basically to ensure only serious accounts are made and no fraud happens. If a Coach misses an appointment, you claim the deposit and refund the student's payment.
  • 20-30% of the money made goes to the site (aka, you)
  • Keep this section in a separate area of your "Coaching Page", to save value on your featured Coaches. In fact, you have a lot of cool possibilities to create with "featuring". Inviting pro players to your site by offering featured status, charge lesser knowns to have featured spots, etc. Its a good way to keep your Coaches motivated to have good sessions and have good reviews. Obviously, you want to offer featured status effective coaches to build respect and value to your site.

Money is refunded if the coach misses the appointment. The $$ first goes to the website's paypal managed by greekarmy and then at the end of the month to the coach if he kept his appointments ofc. Pretty good system.

I wouldn't worry about it though. The success of the website depends on there not being such scandals.

Nice site, I really like the schedule feature but I do have some suggestions in order for you to make the site even better:

  • When clicking on a coach and reading info about them, add a link to their TLPD.
  • Also a sneak peek on how a coaching session might be like would be nice. Just ask each coach to record some of their coaching and provide it for free (doesn't have to be a full lesson, just a few minutes). It's good marketing value for the coach and its a good way for a potential student to see how the coach works.
  • I saw that someone already mentioned this but I repeat, simplify the site's colors and background. Personally I think the red, green and blue is irritating for my eyes (almost creates a psychedelic look). I would tone down the colors and stick to a softer color scheme (just look at TL's colors as an example).
  • Under login it says "Rememberme" just add the spacing

I saw that you worked on a way for potential coaches to add themselves, that would be a great feature!

That's what I came up with for now. I believe you have a good idea and with some refinements your site can very well become the place SC2 gamers go to when they need a coach.

Manner up, the topic is about his new site and coaching, not the prices of specific coaches you don't recognize.

recognition of coaches is one of the main reasons people pay what they pay

"Standard" pricing for someone popular is not the standard for someone nobody knows

I have no idea whether these are actually expensive or not, but just saying, most people pay the handsome prices to be coached by someone e-famous.

It may help a little, but, see most things I've ever heard from a coach is easily found in at least one of day9's dailies. It falls onto you though, to figure out what you're doing wrong, which isn't that hard as long as you watch your replays and have a little bit of insight.

Also, as others have mentioned above, but never articulated it correctly, but it is a lot of money for relatively "unknown" players for the most part(outside of EU), yes there are some known players, but, I also feel that many people don't understand that there is a difference between a good player and a good coach, a lesser player could possibly coach better than someone like say...Nestea(just an example) or another big name. So, I guess reviews may help this, but I think many people will flock to the players with better results/ranks versus the ones with better reviews.

A possible way to change this could be that there is a required review(a "like or dislike" system) for every student, I don't know what the punishment could be if someone doesn't review it, but that could really show whos the better coach compared to whos the better player.

Anyways, I went off on a tangent there, but good luck with the site

I just went to the site and holy shit, almost had a seizure. Whoever your designer was, he needs to be fired on the spot for picking those colors.

Also, what the hell is with the Book Now button? Is it meant to be viewed in 3d?

The site is literally hurting my eyes. Actual physical pain and irritation. I wish you all the best of luck in this endeavor, but keep in mind, it's very important what people see on the first page view.

Again, not trying to be a dick, but that design could use some work. As of right now, it doesn't look professional at all, which it should be if you want people's hard earned money.

Some people on this forum are so bad mannered. This guy worked his ass off for half a year and he actively helps to improve the Starcraft 2 community. You've just got to be socially awkward to be bitching about the design colors, the fame-o-meter of the coaches and the lack of <insert name> as a coach. Wow, team liquid community...

Personally, I think it's great! Keep up the good work.

Looks like you need some broootoss

The fact that their names exist in the TL database means jack-squat. I'm not saying they suck. They're obviously a lot better than me. But $25/hour is an awful lot for someone who's really not that good.

"Really not that good" Any player between bronze and mid-masters won't have more benefits from having an overpriced coaching hour with an international superstar than with a EU grandmaster player.. The level of the coaches is already very high, high enough for a student to be able to fulfill greatly his coaching hour with sufficient information

I have to agree with this post. I don't really understand all the whining. It's not like you are forced to take coaching from anyone, also the booking system is pretty tight on Finegamers.com

the e-famous coaches are actually not very good coaches by just title alone. not to say the current lineup is good or bad just saying. if you knew anything about anything you would agree the coaching that has been broadcasted by these e-famous ppl has been very very poor

basically dont be so fast to write off someone who isnt e-famous because the ability to understand metagame and articulate said gameplay and learning is a skill ANYONE can have. most pros dont change metagame or devise the best strats but take the best strats and do them the best.

I really should have phrased that better. I'm sure they're great players; while certainly not the best. I don't think the fees are unjustified in the sense that they aren't good enough to charge that much. But rather, most people will not care to spend that money on unknowns, when there are very well known and equally/more talented players that charge similar fees.

Yes and also, you have to keep in mind that someone who isn't known among the american players, might be known among the european players. For example while many people in US might've heard about Satiini, they might not recognize him as such a strong player many european do.

I mean just take a look at this http://gosucoaching.com/users/lzgamer, why the hell would anyone pay LzGameR this amount of money? or Machine, InKa, StrifeCro for that matter. Makes many of the unknown players on this site feel affordable as they might even be better players. I jus't dont see how the prizes on gosucoaching are justfied, feels like a rip off.

Just my 2 cents

I must say some of the grammar on your website needs work, it looks unprofessional.

Other than that, good luck with your idea and business

Some people on this forum are so bad mannered. This guy worked his ass off for half a year and he actively helps to improve the Starcraft 2 community. You've just got to be socially awkward to be bitching about the design colors, the fame-o-meter of the coaches and the lack of <insert name> as a coach. Wow, team liquid community...

Personally, I think it's great! Keep up the good work.

Most people make up their mind about staying on a website within the first five seconds of use. If a website is hard on the eyes, such as this site is, it's highly unlikley they will stay on the page long enough for the information in it to matter.

People are simply trying to give the owner advice to improve his business. It isn't being bad mannered at all, in fact it is quite the opposite, people are attempt to give him constructive criticism.

The intense reg/green/blue bars at the top and bottom should go, they look incredibly out of place and hurt the eyes. All of the text that has a green/red shadowing is really hard to look at. Very bright, harsh colours are off putting as text, the neon green text in the "Latest Replays" bar is exceptionally hard to read. This stuff is going to turn away a lot of people that open your site from a search engine query, look at it for two second, and decide to skip along to the next link.

And I'm not too sure what the background imagine is but it's a little gross. It reminds me of a fly. Again I don't see how that fits the theme of the website at all.

The price of the coaches doesn't seem bad to me at all, a lot cheaper then most other coaching website's I've looked at for the majority of your coaches. The content of your website seems to be really good, the presentation on the other hand, is severely lacking.

great idea I hope it pays off for you and becomes a useful resource for the community.

For the people moaning about the prices they are actually fairly cheap... U think people like idra charge 35 euro an hour? try up in the 100's.

Good Idea. And the prices are not high. How much do you pay a random Tennis Instructor an hour?

But the site need other colors, less extreme and more "casual business colors" Like TL blue, grey, black, white.

But good job

I am very pleased with the coaching received from Finegamer.
Paid $22 for 2hours with HotCookies.
I booked only 15 minutes in advance, so naturally he was unable to prepare specifically for my lesson.
He was very friendly and helpful, and offered an extra hour of free coaching, to make up for the lack of preparation.

The payment was smooth although it can be a bit tricky to find out the contact details of your coach.
An email describing this in more detail would be nice.
