Want to build the future of gaming entertainment? TwitchTV is looking for talented engineers to join its team in its downtown San Francisco office.
Since launching in June, TwitchTV has been growing fast. In a few short months, we have already established ourselves as the undisputed leader in online gaming entertainment. We now are looking for engineers passionate about coding to help bring competitive gaming into the mainstream!
In order to build the online destination for gamers, its important to fully understand the games that we all love. Which means, quite literally, playing games is part of our job (or at least that’s what we like to tell ourselves). This is why we have 8 top of the line alienware gaming rigs in office, multiple gaming console setups, any game you can think of, as well as catered lunch and dinner, biweekly massages, monthly haircuts, and provide anything you need for your ideal development setup.
If you are a talented engineer we’d love to speak with you. Bonus points if you are a gamer (extra bonus points if you can beat Justin in Super Street Fighter 4).
We are hiring for both fulltime and internship opportunities - you can apply online here. We want to hear from you! And if you have any questions, don't hesitate to contact brooke [at] twitch.tv

Of all types of jobs Twitch is hiring, it's one I can't really apply or slip through ):
|
I NEED TO FIND JUST AND BEAT HIM. justin i dont mean it <3
|
Sounds like an amazing job, I knew I should have done software/computer
|
I like that they are trying to hire sc2 fans, not some average joe engineer near SF ^^ gl !
|
Looks freaking amazing job Opportunity, GL ALL applicants. Twitch supporting e-sports good job.
|
If I lived in San Francisco, I would no doubt apply! Damn being upside down.
|
I kinda..... do software/computer, but just soso at C, and then I switched over to learn web development work.... so I'm working on learning PHP/Javascript/etc, but I'm not too good at it yet T_T so i don't think I'll be able to take this on... T____T /sigh
|
Benefits: Competitive salary (including equity), full medical & dental, catered lunch & dinner, biweekly massages, gym membership, Super Streetfighter 4 tournaments, whatever design tools you desire, as many monitors as you can fit on your desk.
those biweekly massages are tempting xD
Wish I had more knowledge and lived in the US so I could apply
|
I'd apply but I don't graduate with my B.S. in CS until March 2012
|
unfortunately i miss experience in order to have a solid application
|
Do engineers in training count?
|
Why cant I be an engineer
Hire me as a professional fanboy?
|
|
Good place to post this. If I was done with my degree id probably apply just to see what they could offer me in comp.

They also have a Software Engineer Intern job.

Awesome opportunities... were I in a position to move up to SF I'd be all about it. Love these companies trying to hire from within the community. May apply just for the chance to play against Justin.
|
I would apply, however I am fucking awful at SSF4. I feel like I'd embarass myself. Also my Shoryuken is a little rusty.
+ Show Spoiler +also I am currently full time employed and on the complete opposite side of the country without having the luxury of being able to move to San Fran :o These are great opportunities and I urge anyone who thinks they almost qualify to apply anyways.
|
Sadly I will be qualified for this in 2years, good luck to anyone who gets it
|
Too bad I'm still in college!
|
if u give me ticket from sweden and a apartment ;D
|
If they're hiring someone to bitch about the video / audio issues then I'm the best there is. Good luck to everyone that applies, this is a good opportunity to majorly contribute to the starcraft scene and esports as a whole.
|
Thanks for making the post! I just applied! =]

If you think there's any chance in hell you can be the person these guys want then apply for the job and don't let school of all things get in your way. If they don't call you back then it doesn't impact your schooling, and if you do get the job or even an internship the experience will be worth ten times what your last semester of school will teach you. You can finish school ANY time in your life, this opportunity is here and now!

Oh man, that sounds awesome... maybe I should specialize in networking after all (I imagine that would be the most useful). I've been leaning towards graphics recently. >.<

I know a few hundred CS guys and the only people that mess around in /proc for fun are not spending their time on SC2 ladder.
|
I'm in school for software engineer, would be amazing if this job was still open when I graduate xD
|
Glad to hear they are reaching out once again to the community. Hope you find some great candidates.
|
wow practically a dream job, wish i was 4 years out of college already =[
|
if only you had marketing interns!
|
Good luck to everyone who applies!

If I were closer to graduation, you bet your ass I would go for a job like this!
I'm going to apply like hell to e-sports-supporting companies when I'm near the acquisition of my Comp Sci degree. MORE MOTIVATION TO CODE!

I don't qualify for a single one of these at all.
|
If I was qualified I would totally apply. I'm a network engineer though, not a software engineer . Sounds like a great job, and I hope Twitch.TV finds someone qualified and motivated. Hopefully in the future some kind of opening pertaining to my field will open up.
|
I was interested in interning at Twitch next summer, and although I never really had a chance to follow through with the application, I can say that from the chat I had with them that working at Justin.tv would be incredible, even more than this ad lets on! You all should stop making excuses to not apply and start finding excuses to apply -- you have nothing to lose and so, so much to gain.
|
Why hasn't twitch.tv switched over to AE? Do you guys really still play super?

y am i not an engineer? please

Awesome to hear!
I will be applying for the front-end developer position, good luck to me and everyone else applying, would love to work there.

You are hiring engineers, yet give them prebuilt alienware systems for their work?
Last i checked alienware only offered locked CPU's in sealed cases etc and overcharged by like 200%
|
not hiring community managers ? :'(
|
This is so awesome. I'm an engineer but unfortunately I doubt you'd actually find my skillset useful in coding. Ah well. I should go back to school so I can get jobs like this.

I live in the wrong country.

I don't mind moving to the states. But is Twitch hiring only engineers? Any chance you guys looking to take up guys for legal / HR etc. ? :/

There's always someone to try and find a negative in something positive on this forum, just makes me lol. Have you ever worked as a programmer? You don't need an i7 2600K OC'ed to 4.6ghz to write code sir. I think the reason they mentioned the fact that they are Alienware computers is so you can play games during your breaks/free time!?
I would love to apply for the Front-End Developer position, I'm a graduate of 2 years from university here in the UK, but I have absolutely no way of getting myself over to the US and affording a place to live. ^^

Same here unfortunately. I've looked into Twitch and other gaming companies, websites, publications in the past and it seems that the jobs that would better suit me are marketing focused, testing, HR or something the like since I have a BS in marketing and general management. While I have done a decent amount of html, css, database work, it's just not on the same level as the guys they are looking for. Good luck to all those who apply. The job market is pretty intense at the moment so hope it all goes well.
|
My skills and progression into my degree (CS) are not up to those standards quite yet; good luck to whoever gets those jobs! Looks like I need to get comfortable with Linux.
|
If this had come up a couple years ago I would of had a pretty good shot. I got laid off from my software engineering job and ended up taking something more support oriented. I've pretty much forgotten how to do anything beyond scripting and small asp programs at this point.
|
Damnit! I saw engineer and thought the cool locomotive kind, not the programming kind.

Oddly enough, I find that the exact same situation applies to any kind of programming related work that I do. I leave html for a couple weeks working on some other project, and I forget and have to relearn so much of the syntax. Very interesting how much you need to keep working with these subjects so that they can be fresh in your mind. Otherwise it just gets pushed out when it's not needed.
|
"Ability to thrive in an entrepreneurial environment"
To me that just comes across as "be prepared to work a 100 hour week".
At least, every job I've had that was described as an "entrepreneurial environment" ended up being "work is now your life, forget about the life you once had"
Other than that the jobs sounds pretty sweet.

Last i checked alienware only offered locked CPU's in sealed cases etc and overcharged by like 200% Every engineering firm I've ever worked at gave us pre-built computers too. IT has to maintain consistency in all of them and make sure they work exactly as intended -- they aren't our personal computers to play games on.
Sounds like a waste of money to use Alienwares over Dells, but the fact that they're pre-built isn't really weird at all.

You know a lot of languages and you’re comfortable learning new ones quickly. You have strong opinions on what makes a language good, but at the end of the day you’re a pragmatist and you’ll use whatever it takes to get the job done. You're constantly thinking, 'That would be a great feature to add to...'
That doesn't really seem like 'being overqualified' ... it doesn't even say anything specific

For an intern that's very overqualified. Understanding syntax of various programming languages are one thing, but applying different techniques based on language semantics like OO or dynamic scripting is another. What's important for startups are not just the ability to write code that simply does something but can also be extended and modified to keep the software growing and maturing. Bad code = gg. Better off just not writing it.
This type of skill takes not only some smarts but also at least several years of experience to get attuned to the various best practices and software life cycle processes. For an intern to do this would require some really special talent or a student who got his head start back in high school or earlier, and even then the intern would have to pick things up fairly quickly. Small companies main advantage is speed and innovation.
Sounds like am awesome opportunity though. Wish I weren't stuck in so cal...

Exactly. I looked at the other job descriptions as well and they're lacking in the acronym alphabet soup that you'll find in most engineering job descriptions. This is a good thing.
The bottom line is they want somebody who is smart and passionate about the product. Good programmers aren't constrained by a programming language or technology. Those are just tools. Analysis, design, and problem-solving are your skills.
I'm going a bit off topic here as it doesn't necessarily pertain to the TwitchTV job description. From the sound of it some of you haven't exactly been on the job market for a skill position. Here's a bit of encouragement: nearly every job description for engineering-related positions is going to include a ton of esoteric requirements that nobody has any possibility of having acquired every single one of them. Don't be discouraged if you don't fit the description exactly. Nobody does.

Indeed. If you just differentiate physics, you have a derivative, which can easily be software engineering.

if it wasn't over in san fran .. i'm done with my comp sci master in about 6 months, so what would fit quite well, and i seem to fit what they are looking for. Moving over there would of course be a possibility, but thats a pretty huuge decision and i don't how much i trust the longevity of twitch.tv enough to do an all in move like that Oo
well, maybe i'll check that page again in half a year or something, depending on how i feel then. Good luck to those who applied! :D

I pretty much fit their requirements 100% and am more than willing to make the move to the US to accomodate the position. I've never been this excited about a job opportunity! Good luck to everyone involved

I'm pretty much in the same spot as you But i'm applying for the internship anyway...i don't mind living like 3 months in california at all. And as long as i can at least pay the costs from the internship salary it will be a huge gain for me. Ofcourse, assuming i get accepted

Hrmmm... I'm an embedded C/C++ developer and have some experience writing driver level stuff and tweaking OSes.. Somewhat comfortable at assembly level coding but don't have a lot of experience with *nix. Do have a lot of experience with VxWorks and usually try to stick with using POSIX.. Maybe I'll give it a shot :-)

It's actually pretty true, or at least it has worked for me - graduated engineering physics a decade ago, followed up with a masters, and have scored a few awesome jobs since then with, more or less, that same argument.

It works. Seriously.

I wish I could join. This would be a dream.
