Yet those wing suit guys and base jumpers never seem to have bad injuries. They're either fine or they're dead. Perhaps those doing gymnastics and cheerleading should do base jumping instead?

Pff, those guys have no balls. They only fly every once in a while, and they have a damn parachute to slow them down.
+ Show Spoiler +I would looooooove to do wing suit flying, but it's quite a long process to get certified. I really just need to go sky diving again.

The thing to remember about Zdra's latest poll is that for most games you're probably above average simply by virtue of posting here.

What if I'm above average at castlevania?

I'm not sure about that. I'm most definitely average in most of the games that I play, despite posting here. I spend far too much time now doing real life stuff that I can't afford to be a good player anymore. The game I am the best at requires more thought than the spacial awareness and APM that my favorite games require (dota, league, csgo).
tl:dr I'm only good at a children's card game.

Castlevania is never a wrong answer my friend.

If you're at least Silver in LoL you're above average. Average =/= good.

Depends how you view the data I suppose. If you draw a line in the sand at half the playerbase and say "If there are exactly 50% of the players who play this game that are worse than me, I am above average". Personally I envision a bell curve, where the lower limits and the upper limits are outside of the largest distribution of players. So if you're within one standard deviation of the mean, you're average. When you're outside of the bell curve you're above or below average. And when the graph just about straightens out you'd be elite or that Urgot main guy who played like 3,000 games before he got out of bronze.

archery sounds really fun... and hey there is one close to me...
Outdoor paintball is more fun for more or less this reason. Indoor everything is too rigidly defined and stuff so better gear/skill will always win, but outdoor there's way more variables so luck aside it's easier to overcome gear with skill.
Although some of the rental equipment can get really janky in outdoor places. I would recommend always bringing a slingshot just in case, as silly as it sounds. I've never tried archery tag, but they have one near here as well. I've played with gomuyumi before, but idk how that would translate into something like archery tag.

Even if you look at it that way, being above average isn't that difficult

Beyond 1 SD is like mid-high gold probably? (completely guessing, I'm too lazy to math)

Yeah and due to decay I'm in gold 5 and gold 3 in league. And gold 2 on LAN. So right in the middle.

Oh, don't worry bud. I wasn't suggesting that you're above average.
|
Yeah I'm actually way below average.
But I can still take you.

Considering the only game I've been playing is the elite, it just seemed obvious to choose elite. Admittedly League has been the only game I've played where I've put in a amount of time and felt like I don't improve actively.

Yup, I'm bad at HS and I've seen my skill at League drop (seeing it happen while being conscious of it is pretty depressing, though, because the decrease is mental, not in execution). I think I'm in the average or slightly below it at WoT though, I'm not good at that game (especially not at some kinds of tanks/artillery). Not even level 13 in DotA to calibrate yet.
See it's weird because by virtue of loving puzzle solving and racking my head I'm pretty sure I could come up with more decent all-around decks than a bunch of MtG players, when you consider the whole playerbase. But for one I'm probably willing to spend more time racking said head to come up with something and polish it than the average casual, and for two that I'm not totally trash at homebrewing (within the confines of standard, and considering I'm bad at limited according to previous results) doesn't mean I know how to actually competently play a deck. So different aspects really. The thing that's hurting my head atm is how would one decide to hold mana for a counter/combat trick as opposed to playing a dude, especially if he's not already ahead.

Nope. You're above average.
There are currently 10.5 million players worldwide. Of those 7.25 million are Bronze/Silver. Simply being Gold V puts you in the top 30% of players.

Okay, fair point. I'm above average in league.
It's balanced out by being below average in dota (I have like 180 hours and I can barely win vs hard bots), above average in csgo, and below average in SC2.
|
Hmmm, before I took my 2 month break, I was hovering around 3.2-3.8k party in dota, in FF14...I'm not at an elite level, but I'm not sure where I fall as I haven't started doing Savage content yet.
When I played FPS games I pulled between a 1.5 and a 2 K/D, depending on map/game/mode.

Anyone interested in watching me fail at rivals of aether tonight? I'm thinking of trying to stream it. From my experience yesterday I'm definitely below average.

My overarching point is that the kind of people I see posting here have a tendency to undervalue their own abilities. They're so used to a higher standard of play that their concept of "average" is heavily skewed upward.
For example, Rank 17 in Hearthstone is above average by my definition, and Rank 16-15 is above average by yours. I guarantee you if I'd posted a poll most people would have guessed somewhere between 15-10, possibly higher.
It's pretty hard to have perspective on this sort of thing so it's not surprising, but the flip side of the Dunning-Kruger coin is that it's easy for people to take their own abilities for granted. Things that you just naturally do as a matter of course/habit are foreign and inexplicable to someone else, and set you apart without you realizing it.
That's my pep talk for the day.
