There's knowing how to not drown then there's knowing how to swim. Most people don't need to know more than the former. I do wish I knew how to swim properly as it'd make a nice low impact day I could do between weights.

Let me get in the water nice and easy and I can swim reasonably fast and long (ish?), but submerge my head for 2 seconds and bad things will happen to me lol.

Granted, my grandfather and dad were both swimmers, so I learned at a pretty young age. I have so many memories of just sitting at the bottom of a pool, loving the calm and silence of the water. I miss swimming regularly.

I have no idea how this is even possible. Is it because of the long hair? Actually even girls I know with long hair can swim submerged.

First you learn how to keep your head above the water and then you learn how to deal with having your head submerged I just never learned the second part I tried a tiny bit over the holidays and while I'm okay breathing out while only my nose and mouth are submerged, when both my chest and my head are submerged it's really really REALLY hard for me not to breathe in instead of breathing out, it's as if I get those 2 confused or something body please oh, I don't have long hair anymore, Numy pls. ![]()

Keep going at it! Swimming isn't that hard. Proper form is a bit harder and takes time but not drowning isn't too bad.

When I learned to swim as a kid there was a lot of holding on to the swimming pool wall. I think once we were off the wall though we learned backstroke before anything else and coordinated breathing stuff like freestyle last. I still prefer breaststroke over freestyle, so much more relaxing.
